Abstract

This article analyzes how the household labor allocation strategy of paddy farmers in lebak swampland. The analysis is based on the time allocation theory by Becker in the form of decision-making for on-farm activities (paddy farming and non-paddy farming); off-farm and non-farm. The respondents of the research is 100 paddy farmers of lebak swampland. The result of analysis shows that non-paddy farming activities (fishery and rising Alabio duck) and non-farm activities provide most remuneration, thus providing the opportunities to increase the income and poverty alleviation. Therefore, household labor allocation strategy of farmers should be directed at these two activities. Paddy farming only to fulfill food needs of the family alone.

Abstract

Palm has a fibrous root system, consisting of a primary root, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. In general, palm root system is closer to ground level, however, in certain cases it may penetrate deeper. One of the root functions is to absorb water and nutrients from the soil. Palm roots dispersion can be determined by using the geoeletric resistivity method. Geoelectric resistivity data using Wenner configuration method is measured in three trajectory forming an equilateral triangle on palm plant row with a variation of 9 m (AB / 2) in accordance with palm plant spacing, with potential electrode spacing of 30 cm (MN / 2). Collection of geoelectric resistivity data is done by injecting electric current into the earth through two electrodes, the potential difference is then measured through two potential electrodes. Measurements were performed by varying the distance of the electrodes and potentials, gradually from the smallest distance to the largest. Measurement of palm root dispersion detection consists of 3 tracks (L1, L2, and L3). Measurements on June 24, 2014 carried out on track 1 (L1) between rows of palm plants, track 2 (L2) between the palm plant within the same row, and track 3 (L3) diagonally between the rows of plants (Figure 1). Measurement on July 8, 2014 were on track 1 (L1) is between rows of palm plants, track 2 (L2) and track 3 (L3) diagonally between the rows of plants.Geoelectric on diagonal trajectory where modified biopore infiltration pit is in place resulted in low resistivity values. This is related to soil water availability, where it affects the development of the root towards the biopore pits.

Abstract

The decline in the quality of land caused by the use of inorganic fertilizers fueled the growth of organic farming. Organic farming requires a source of organic fertilizer which is very large. Needs a very large organic fertilizer requires a source of organic material that is widely available. today in eastern Kalimantan and oil palm industry is growing rapidly. The palm oil industry in addition to producing liquid waste also generates solid waste such as oil palm empty fruit bunches that can be used as a source of organic fertilizer. This study aims to determine the release of nutrients after the decomposition of oil palm empty fruit bunches using Banana’s Corm (Musa paradisiaca) Microorganisms. This research is descriptive methods. Assessment of the nutrients status in the compost TKKS using BPT Bogor (2009). The results showed that the pH of compost TKKS using Banana’s Corm (Musa paradisiaca) Microorganisms 8,54; C-organic 54,3 %; Nitrogen 1.8 %; Ratio C /N 31.5; P2O5 0,4 %, and K2O 1,59%.

Abstract

Corn is one commodity that has a strategic role and economical. In Indonesia, the corn cultivated in diverse environments. Rubber is one of the most important plantation crop in South Kalimantan, rubber plantations people usually managed with simple cultivation techniques. Planting corn as intercrops among plantation crops made to utilize the available land, especially in staple crops are not produced. The research was conducted in the Galumbang Village RT III, Paringin Selatan District, Balangan Regency South Kalimantan Province, for 4 months, from May to July 2014. This experiment using a randomized block design with two treatments. The treatments tested were two varieties of sweet corn (B), namely (b1) Jago F1 and (b2) Bonanza F1. Each treatment comprised 12 plants and 16 replications so that overall there are 192 plants with 2 plant samples. Results of analysis of variance showed that the growth and yield of two varieties of sweet corn hybrids as intercrops under the rubber stands significant effect on plant height observation variables aged 28, 35 and 42 days after planting (DAP); variable number of leaf age 28 and 35 DAP; variable diameter stems of plants aged 28, 35, 42 and 49 DAP; and the variable length of the cob without husk of corn. Likewise, no effect on plant height observation variables age 49 DAP; variable number of leaf age 42 and 49 DAP; variables wet weight cob with husk; variables wet weight without husk; and the diameter of the cob without husk. Two variables observation that can not be done analysis of variance that are number of samples per plot and number of cobs per plant samples. Based The DMRT test the best treatment is sweet corn Bonanza F1 (b2) varieties.

Abstract

Organic wastes in Samarinda, East Kalimantan are about 450 tons a day. More than 60 % as a vegetables waste. Refer to the literature, nutrients which contain on the vegetables waste are about 100 ton per waste’s dry weight so it is potential to be an organic fertilizers. The advantages of the organic fertilizer are coping nutrient deficiencies, relieves nutrients fastly, contain complete micro and macro, repairing soil structure then soil become loose, high water holding capacity, and occasionally give the disease resistancy to the plant, and increasing soil microorganism activity. That the reason why organic fertilizer like compost being the alternative for repairing soil degradation. That research aims are to identify the compost quality from the vegetables local microorganism which produces by adding the vegetables with sugar and coconut water. And then that local microorganism was used as the empty bunch palm oil scrabs decomposter. This research told that the compost from the vegetables wastes with local microorganism application held the higher total N, P, K than control.
