Abstract

The dune plays a crucial role in the community life of Sumberkejayan Village, Mayang Subdistrict, Jember Regency. The decline in its functionality began in 2017, coinciding with a tornado and a reduction in the water discharge from community water sources around the dune. In response to these developments, the team initiated a program aimed at restoring the functionality of the dune within the Sumberkejayan Village area. The objective of this program is twofold: to reinstate the functionality of the dune and to emphasize the importance of caution in the buying and selling of dunes by its owners. Vegetative and renegotiation methods are employed through replanting (reforestation) using Sengon Solomon planting media. Sengon Solomon was selected for its rapid development compared to other types of sengon. Concurrently, renegotiation serves as a remedy in the buying and selling process, addressing disparities in agreements regarding dunes. Renegotiation provides alternative solutions for disadvantaged parties, aiming to restore the terms of the agreement and the conditions of the involved parties.

Abstract

The global prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is escalating, with projections indicating a continued upward trend. Indonesia, particularly in South Sulawesi, has also experienced a rise in DM prevalence over recent years. Comprehensive strategies for ineffective management are crucial to reduce the impact of DM. This community engagement took place at Bajeng Community Health Center in South Sulawesi from October to November 2023, involving 58 diabetic patients and 10 nurses in the Prolanis club. Activities included mini-lectures, active learning, and demonstrations, starting with coaching training for nurses by an international coach. Subsequent activities involved nurses conducting coaching sessions with patients, accompanied by the community engagement team. Statistical tests on knowledge and quality of life before and after coaching showed a significant improvement in both variables (p < 0.0001). Coaching interventions by trained nurses demonstrated a positive impact on the knowledge and quality of life of diabetic patients. The results of this activity provide a strong foundation to consider integrating coaching as an integral part of diabetes management strategies to enhance the health and well-being outcomes for patients.

Abstract

Financial literacy is a key focus at Sekolah Alam Kebun Tumbuh in Sawangan, Depok, Indonesia. The school integrates environmental engagement into its teaching and learning processes, aiming to achieve educational goals through positive role models and values. Recognizing the community’s limited financial knowledge, a primary community development initiative was established to address this gap. This program aims to enhance financial literacy among educators and parents, thereby fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in students. The program begins with the planning and execution of modules, which involve brainstorming and preliminary investigation. The initial phase included an introduction to entrepreneurship, followed by in-depth instruction on fundamental financial concepts and budgeting. Each training session included a pre-test to assess participants' initial skill levels and a post-test to measure progress. Additionally, participants gave presentations to evaluate their understanding post-training. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants' abilities to create financial models. Evaluations show enhanced financial and entrepreneurial skills among the participants. Feedback highlights the need for longer-term program sustainability and greater community involvement.

Abstract

West Java experienced 522 earthquake events, of which 93 occurred in Tasikmalaya City and Regency. This has made a lot of noise in the community and created excessive concern, so the community needs to be educated, especially in terms of preparedness in dealing with earthquake disasters in order to prevent more severe impacts. Elementary school education is the first door to introduce students to disaster preparedness and mitigation. One of the elementary schools that does not have non-structural mitigation efforts is Cihideungbalong Islamic Elementary School. The location, which is in a densely populated area, is also vulnerable to the effects of earthquake disasters, so it is necessary to have an earthquake anticipation evacuation route and counseling in the Cihideungbalong Islamic Elementary School environment. The method used is socialization about earthquake anticipation and simulation assistance after an earthquake by following the evacuation route. Increasing students' knowledge of the earthquake, which consists of knowledge about the dangers of the earthquake, making support tools and evacuation routes for earthquake anticipation. The results of this activity have increased student preparedness, from an increase of 17 percent for student knowledge of how the earthquake occurs, 33 percent regarding student calmness in facing the earthquake, 56 percent for self-rescue during an earthquake, and 78 percent for accuracy/skill of students in simulating self-rescue through the earthquake evacuation route.

Abstract

The government, through Peraturan Presiden RI Nomor 44 Tahun 2020, mandates Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification for smallholder farmers within five years of its enactment. However, by December 2022, only 32 farmer groups had achieved ISPO certification. The Gunung Ambat Farmers Group, which has already received funds from the PSR program, is one of the independent farmer groups with the potential to acquire ISPO accreditation. Yet, members' understanding of this certification remains low due to a lack of socialization or training from the government or other entities. This initiative aims to promote the regulation and provide training on the concepts and requirements for ISPO certification. Activities include administering questionnaires to assess knowledge, conducting training sessions, engaging in puzzle games, and practicing the documentation of farming activities. The results indicate significant improvements in farmers' understanding before and after the training. Initially, farmers had no knowledge of ISPO certification; however, post-training, over 70 percent of participants understood the certification, with an average of 35 percent comprehending its principles and criteria. Participants are also encouraged to document their farming progress, enhancing their skills in farming business documentation and administrative tasks.

Abstract

Pokdarwis "Zwageri Borneo" in Manunggal Jaya Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, prioritizes agricultural tourism. However, this tourism activity has been hindered by the lack of basic infrastructure. There is an adequate quantity of raw water from ex-mining ponds, but quality parameters such as turbidity, Fe, and Mn do not meet the required standards. To address this, a water treatment technology that is easy to operate and maintain—a combination of roughing filter and aeration—has been implemented. In this activity, a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) with a processing capacity of 46.3 l/minute has been constructed. Technology transfer and management assistance have been provided to Pokdarwis. Additionally, maps have been created to support tourism promotion. This initiative is expected to be sustainable with Pokdarwis independently managing the WTP facilities. Conservation of catchment areas is necessary to maintain the quantity and quality of raw water. Cross-sectoral collaboration with district and provincial tourism offices, village governments, and the private sector is essential to support Pokdarwis.

Abstract

In order to increase public understanding and awareness regarding the safety use of drugs and cosmetics, the Community Service Team of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University has held community service in Jonggrangan Village, Klaten, Central Java. The community service was carried out on July 31, 2023, with approximately 60 family welfare programs or PKK cadres and health cadres participating through training, presentations, and discussions. The activity began with a pre-test, continued with training, a presentation of the material by three experts, and a discussion, then ended with giving a post-test to the participants. The results of the pre and post-test analysis showed that participants' understanding increased. The results of the analysis of the answers to the 15 questions given showed that the increase in participants' understanding ranged from  2.13-46.02 percent. The impact of these activities on society. The increase in participants' understanding of each topic is not the same depending on the initial understanding. However, the problem is that the level of public understanding after receiving training is still below 50 percent namely on topics about the stages of using cosmetic products and about drug classification. So it is necessary to deepen the material using other strategies (appropriate methods and media).

Abstract

Taxes are the main pillar of government development funding, as mandated by Indonesian law. The primary challenge at Erenos High School in South Tangerang is the lack of taxpayer awareness regarding tax compliance. There is an urgent need to change citizens' perspectives on fiscal education from an early age through systematic strategies, including curriculum and student activities. The education sector has welcomed the Directorate General of Taxes' initiative to include tax education in the curriculum, fostering tax awareness among the younger generation. The implementation process includes several phases: interviews and discussions, module preparation, presentations, training and discussions, and mentoring. The Community Service Team monitored the activities, observing significant student interest in the subject matter presented. The students' enthusiasm and high participation indicated strong curiosity, evidenced by the variety of questions directed at the speakers. The speakers' engagement in asking about the students' tax knowledge was clear from the final evaluation results, showing that 91.8% of participants felt they had begun to understand their responsibilities as taxpayers. This initiative aims to instill a sense of tax awareness early on, ensuring that future generations are well-informed and compliant with tax regulations, ultimately supporting government development efforts.

Abstract

Stunting is a complex problem related to environmental health and the provision of nutritious food. Chronic malnutrition in children results in permanently impaired physical and cognitive growth. Cisaranten Wetan Village, Cinambo District, Bandung has problems with the health conditions of children who are indicated to be stunted. The purpose of this service activity is to provide education to Integrated Healthcare Center (in Indonesia: Posyandu) cadres and the community regarding stunting, as well as assistance with specific nutritional interventions for children indicated as stunted. Education was conducted by the STFI Community Service Team with the theme of balanced nutrition and child development in the form of counseling, videos, and leaflets. Children who are indicated to be stunted are given additional food in the form of egg powder, curcumin honey, and goat milk regularly. The existence of routine education carried out with various media causes a change in the level of knowledge from the moderate category to good in mother respondents with children who are indicated to be stunted. Increased maternal knowledge affects behaviour in parenting and child growth and development.
