Abstract

The purpose of service activity is to describe how to create learning materials using various types of text by bringing eco-literacy approach and participants' responses. Our partners encounter a challenge wherein teachers struggle to provide instructional materials aligned with the concept of environmental awareness due to the continued emphasis on teacher-centred learning. The consequence is the students’ cognitive skills remain at a low level, and a lack of interest in environmental matters. Eco-literacy strategies are the solution to develop teachers’ instructional materials that align with the principles of sustainable development and environmental awareness and enhances stuents’ active learning. Workshops and socialization were implemented and 30 primary teachers in Surabaya participated. The instruments were a pre-post-test and a questionnaire. The results indicate that the teachers' comprehension of eco-literacy concept has been enhanced. They can also develop materials and lesson plan based on eco-literacy approach. In addition, nearly all teachers express feelings of enthusiasm and happiness regarding this activity, and 85% indicated they enable creating learning activities. It was concluded that this activity could improve their knowledge regarding the concept of eco-literacy. It is suggested to employ engaging instructional materials to facilitate the realization of SDGs.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence or AI first emerged in the mid-20th century, when computer scientists and researchers began to think of ways to create machines that could “think” like humans. The phenomenon of human dependence on AI is now an unavoidable reality. Across sectors, AI is increasingly relied upon to speed up processes, increase efficiency, and reduce human error. This creates an interesting paradox: while AI is designed to support and ease human tasks, many aspects are becoming increasingly automated. This study aims to identify and analyze the defects or limitations of artificial intelligence (AI) in helping humans access literary works. The data in this study are copies of answers from two AI products, ChatGPT and Gemini, in transcribing poetry manuscripts from Indonesian poets. The data collection process was carried out by giving tasks to the two AI products to produce poetry manuscripts that have been published widely and globally through various platforms. The results were then analyzed in depth and compared with the original manuscripts to see the extent to which AI is able to produce sentence constructions that are conditional on deep meaning from Indonesian poets. Based on the results of the analysis and comparison that has been carried out on the results of manuscripts produced by two AI products called ChatGPT and Gemini, ten data were obtained in total, with details of five data being poetry manuscripts originating from ChatGPT and the remaining five originating from Gemini. Based on the ten data produced, it can be concluded that ChatGPT and Gemini found many defects in copying a literary work in the form of poetry, this proves that ChatGPT and Gemini are not capable enough to be used as a trusted source in observing literary works.

Abstract

Catchy Word is a word-based visual aid designed to facilitate the communication process for children with verbal disabilities. Children with ASD often have difficulty communicating effectively, which can impact their social interactions and emotional development. This study used observation and interview methods with teachers at ACT Surabaya, and observed the development of communication in children with ASD who used Catchy word. The results showed that the use of Catchy Word helped improve verbal communication skills, but was less than optimal in improving the non- verbal abilities of children with ASD, this is because children with ASD have delays in providing information. Catchy Word provides them with an alternative to express themselves better. The implementation of this method also encourages increased participation of children with ASD in learning and movement activities. The conclusion of this study is that Catchy Word can be an effective solution in overcoming communication challenges in children with ASD.

Abstract

The research with the title “The Role of Education and Science in the Digital Age in theperspective of Norman Fairclough's Critical Thinking Teaching” is motivated by the challengesfaced by the world of education and science in the increasingly complex digital era, which is notonly in the form of competition for express teaching models, but also human interest in falsetruths and information. The critical thinking teaching method offered by Fairclough opens newhorizons for the world of education and science so as not to be trapped by offers ofsophistication and sophistication alone, because developments in the digital era are alsorealized to have a negative impact on humans. This research is qualitative research using theliterature method. The formal object in this research is Norman Fairclough's critical thinkingteaching method, while the material object used in this research is the basic concept ofeducation and science. After conducting a search in this study, the results obtained are (1) theformulation of critical thinking on the concepts of education and science (2) finding the role ofeducation and science of education in the digital era by involving five basic concepts initiatedby Fairclough, namely action, context, history, power and ideology.
