Students need to be equipped with high order thinking skill in order to prepare them with future world. Eventhough variety of programs on teaching high order thinking skills has been implemented formally in schools in Malaysia and also placed in the school curriculum, the results are not to the satisfactory. This research is proposing a suitable educational tool which can increase higher thinking skills among students. Keeping in mind that learning is a conceptualized multidimensional development involving three components: cognitive learning achievement, meta-cognition and motivation, an educational game with Meta-cognitive activity is proposed. An animated puzzle game that adapts acitivities that enables to nurture meta-cognitive skills has been developed and tested. Heuristic testing and functionality testing has been done towards the project prototype and positive results has been obtained. An enhancement of prototype will embark a new perspective of educational mechanism and could improve students higher order thinking skills capability.

This research introduces the appropriate input pattern of Fuzzy Logic design for fault type classification of Single Line to Ground Fault at distribution network. The proposed design is solely using Fuzzy Logic as the research technique with input data from PSCAD simulation. PSCAD software simulate the circuit configuration for fault disturbance at the distribution network. The research technique was applied with multiples input values of voltage and current that extracted from the PSCAD simulation. This research testifies the output result by using different fault resistance values; 0.01Ω, 10Ω, 30Ω, 50Ω and 70Ω. Voltage sag and current swell of phase a, b and c that were obtained from the PSCAD simulation have been used as the input variables for Fuzzy Logic design. The acquired results that represented in average accuracy shown that voltage sag and current swell can draw a satisfying accuracy in classifying the fault type.

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a next-generation internet protocol that is devised to replace its predecessor, the IPv4. With the benefit of ample address space, flexible header extensions and its many specific features, IPv6 is the future of the Internet and Internetworking. A significant advantage of IPv6 is its capabilities in the domain of security and mobility, where it scores in comparison with its predecessor. One of the many features specific to IPv6, such as the mandatory IPsec messaging or address auto-configuration, is the Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP). Even though the concept of security is more pronounced in the IPv6 protocols, there still exist loopholes. These loopholes when exploited target the foundation of the Internetworking. The extensive applications of NDP make it even more necessary to identify and address these gaps to ensure network security. Hence, this paper investigates such loopholes in the applications of NDP in creating a network and analyzes the process of the denial-of-service attacks that endanger the safety of an established network. Also, the paper proposes a new method to mitigate Denial-of-Service (DoS) in network mobility of IPv6 networks. This proposed approach is a hybrid of existing solutions and is capable of overcoming the significant disadvantages of these methods. Also, the paper discusses the comparative analysis among the various existing solutions and illustrates the effect of the proposed method in MIPv6 security.

Electricity disruption due to power cable failure is a major challenge to power utility companies worldwide. A technique which provides quick response with accurate result is needed to detect defects along the cable to reduce the disruption time. This paper discusses the application of time domain reflectometry (TDR) technique to identify and locate the defect along a cable. A cable system is modelled in MATLAB/Simulink to replicate the cable configuration with two joints using the scattering parameter (S-parameter). This research studies the fault identification for two degraded sections in a cable by analyzing the reflected signal from the TDR technique. The characteristics of the reflected signal which indicates the defect cable section are discussed in detail in this paper. Results from MATLAB/Simulink simulations are also compared to the experimental results of the same cable configuration. This study shows that the signal reflection characteristics from MATLAB/Simulink simulations are similar to the experimental results. This indicates that the cable model system built using MATLAB/Simulink replicates the actual cable system accurately which can be used for further analysis of cable fault localization.

Crowdsourcing is a process where a company outsources a task to a large group of the digital worker through an online platform. In Malaysia, the crowdsourcing ecosystem comprises of three key role players which are job providers, platforms and digital workers. The cycle starts when a job issued by the job providers. Then the platform advertises it to the digital workers who registered themselves in the system. The digital worker is an individual having different skills, knowledge, experiences and education level. Those who are interested and has the capabilities to complete it will pull the job based on the first come first serve basis. Basically, the aim of the platform is to ensure that the tasks are taken immediately and completed within a given time by the right skill of the digital worker. However, the platform does not have a structured mechanism to classify the type of task that would confirm the task match to the digital worker. Tasks are given based on digital worker skills and knowledge. A comprehensive mechanism to define and describe the task properties is important. Apart from enabling the determination of the remuneration value, it will also specify skill required and their level of competency. To solve that issues, this paper present the flow and process development and measured the relationships between the types of tasks and the digital workers in alluvial chart apps prototype. 76% of respondents agreed that the alluvial chart shows a comprehensive relationship. As a conclusion, this study defined the comprehensive relationships among the variables will facilitate a platform to match between digital workers to the tasks.

Data clustering is popular data analysis approaches, which used to organizing data into sensible clusters based on similarity measure, where data within a cluster are similar to each other but dissimilar to that of another cluster. In the recently, the cluster problem has been proven as NP-hard problem, thus, it can be solved with meta-heuristic algorithms, such as the particle swarm optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), and ant colony optimization (ACO), respectively. This paper proposes an algorithm called Fast Ant Colony Optimization for Clustering (FACOC) to reduce the computation time of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) in clustering problem. FACOC is developed by the motivation that a redundant computation is occurred in ACO for clustering. This redundant computation can be cut in order to reduce the computation time of ACO for clustering. The proposed FACOC algorithm was verified on 5 well-known benchmarks. Experimental result shows that by cutting this redundant computation, the computation time can be reduced about 28% while only suffering a small quality degradation.

High voltage power transformers commonly used petroleum-based mineral oil for cooling and insulation purposes. Researchers are looking for suitable vegetable oils as alternatives to mineral oil to be used as transformer oil. The alternative vegetable oils are biodegradable, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. They may require some processing and modification to improve some of their properties to ascertain their safe use in power and distribution transformers as well as in high voltage equipment. This paper presents a study on the AC breakdown voltages of Palm Oil (PO) and Coconut Oil (CO) with presence of an additive. PO and CO are chosen as they are locally produced oils in Malaysia and easily obtained. The type of additive used in this study is Titanium dioxide TiO2. TiO2 nanoparticles was added into PO and CO at volume concentration of 0.1% to 0.5%. The effect of different gap distance of electrode 1.5mm, 2.5mm and 3.5mm was studied. The temperature of oil is controlled at 30oC. This paper provides a comparative assessment of breakdown properties through experimental investigation of PO and CO before and after the additive is added according to ASTM D1816 standard. From the experimental result, the PO have slightly higher breakdown voltage compared to CO. From all oil sample data recorded, it can be concluded that the breakdown voltage had increased to the increase in gap distance of electrode under presence of TiO2.

Identification of features in correct alphabet stroke formation is a primary factor in acknowledging handwriting legibility. Hit–or-Miss transform is a morphology operator that is often applied to identify geometric features. Identifying the correct structuring elements (SEs) provides a good geometric feature extraction. Therefore this research proposes to identify generic SEs representing alphabet strokes. The handwriting font used is Syazalina83v3 which is popularly use in teaching writing for lower primary school children in Malaysia. The methodology consists of four phases which are alphabet selection; image pre-processing; manual measurement and hit or miss algorithm with single and various combination of 2x2, 3x3 and 5x5 SE window size; and SEs performance using Pearson correlation. The combination of horizontal and vertical, right diagonal and left diagonal SEs performs well with very strong correlation in detecting Simple Straight Line(SSL), Complex Straight Line(CSL) , Curve Line (CL) and Combination of Curve Line and Simple Straight Line(CLSSL) based on Evan’s correlation guide.

Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) are the potential tools for solving optimization problems. The EAs are the population based algorithms and they search for the optimal solution(s) from an initial set of candidates solutions known as population. This population is to be initialized at first before the evolution of the algorithm starts. There exists different ways to initialize this population. Understanding and choosing the right population initialization technique for the given problem is a difficult task for the researchers and problem solvers. To alleviate this issue, this paper is framed with two objectives. The first objective is to present the details of various Population Initialization (PI) techniques of EAs, for the readers to give brief description of all the PI techniques. The second objective is to present the steps and empirical comparison of the results of two different PI techniques implemented for Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. Theoretical insights and empirical results of the PI techniques are presented in this paper.

This paper proposes increasing the efficiency of the autonomous Photovoltaic (PV) system by utilizing zeta converter alongside neutral point clamped multilevel inverters (NPC-MLI) based on innovative PWM scheme. The PV system acts as an input source and the relevant control of zeta converter through maximum power point tracking (MPPT) offers the maximum available power from the PV array connected to DC-link. To obtain a high voltage gain we need to exhaust the dc-link voltage as much as possible and reduce stress on the switches. For this the NPC-MLI algorithm approaches PWM technique to perform capacitive charging in parallel and discharging in series to obtain maximum voltage gain. The proposed scheme is designed and verified via detailed simulations in the MATLAB/Simulink environment.
