Solar energy has become one of the most studied topic in the field of renewable energy. In this paper, an artificial intelligent approach is proposed for the optimization of a photovoltaic solar energy harvesting system. An Electromagnetism-Like Mechanism Algorithm (EM) has been developed to search for the hourly optimum tilt angles for photovoltaic panels. In order to investigate the effect of the search step size on the efficiency and overall accuracy of the algorithm, the EM has also been modified into several variants with different search step size settings. Experimental findings show that EM with bigger search lengths has the advantage of reaching a near optimum tilt angle in earlier iterations but less accurate. EM with smaller step lengths, on the other hand, can hit a relatively more optimum tilt angle in the process. During the peak of the power generation at noon, EM with smaller search stes found an optimum tilt angle which yielded additional 3.17W of power compared to a fixed panel. We thus conclude that the proposed EM performs well in optimizing the tilt angle of a photovoltaic solar energy harvesting system.

Eagle strategy is a two-stage optimization strategy, which is inspired by the observation of the hunting behavior of eagles in nature. In this two-stage strategy, the first stage explores the search space globally by using a Levy flight; if it finds a promising solution, then an intensive local search is employed using a more efficient local optimizer, such as hillclimbing and the downhill simplex method. Then, the two-stage process starts again with new global exploration, followed by a local search in a new region. One of the remarkable advantages of such a combina-tion is to use a balanced tradeoff between global search (which is generally slow) and a rapid local search. The crow search algorithm (CSA) is a recently developed metaheuristic search algorithm inspired by the intelligent behavior of crows. This research article integrates the crow search algorithm as a local optimizer of Eagle strategy to solve unit commitment (UC) problem. The Unit commitment problem (UCP) is mainly finding the minimum cost schedule to a set of generators by turning each one either on or off over a given time horizon to meet the demand load and satisfy different operational constraints. There are many constraints in unit commitment problem such as spinning reserve, minimum up/down, crew, must run and fuel constraints. The proposed strategy ES-CSA is tested on 10 to 100 unit systems with a 24-h scheduling horizon. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is compared with other well-known evolutionary, heuristics and meta-heuristics search algorithms, and by reported numerical results, it has been found that proposed strategy yields global results for the solution of the unit commitment problem.

Heterogeneous Networks are bunch of homogeneous networks base stations grouped together. The term introduced in this research paper Time Efficiency (Te) gives out the information on the heterogeneous networks where most of the data flows in and out. In this paper, a model for evaluating Time Efficiency in heterogeneous network is developed. The common goals of different base stations in a heterogeneous network are towards coverage of area and capability improvement. Base stations in a homogeneous network differs in transmitted power, achievable rate of data, area covered, density of a base station, energy efficiency and time efficiency. To find out the area of most data flow in certain period, Time efficiency can be used as a major factor.

Harvesting few amount of charge from environmental ambient sources namely, wind, thermal, heat, vibration, solar utilizing micro scale energy harvesting devices, offers vast view of powering for numerous portable low power electronic devices. However, power harvesting using piezoelectric crystal from low power ambient source nowdays has increasing popularity with the advantages of low cost, long life time, stability and clean energy. Recent trends have shown that most researchers are interested in designing a low resonance frequency vibration based energy harvesting devices despite of its challenges ahead. In this paper, a low frequency based rectangular shape piezoelectric cantilever beam has been developed for energy harvesting applications. The proposed vibration based low frequency cantilever beam using piezoelectric element has been developed by finite element analysis (FEA) employing COMSOL Multiphysics platform. The main goal of the study is to analyze the outcome of geometric model of a piezoelectric cantilever beam and to calculate the resonance frequency of the structure according to its length. The material of PZT-5H, has been considered to enhance the efficiency of the low frequency based cantilever beam. Finally, the proposed result is compared with other existing works.

A well-prepared Radio over Fiber (RoF) is a technology that combines two transmission technologies, radio and optical fiber transmissions. The study focused on the characteristics and problems of the optical fiber medium. One of the problems in the optical fiber is the effect of nonlinear characteristic, which caused by the high light intensity in the optical fiber core with extended interaction area in a single mode fiber (SMF). This characteristic reduces the output width and creates a pulse broadening. The nonlinear characteristics discussed in this study focused on SPM (self-phase modulation) and GVD (Group Velocity Dispersion). To overcome the nonlinear problems, this study presented a method to make the noise-resistant transmitted signal and improve the optical fiber power range. The fundamental of this study was developing similarities of previous studies regarding nonlinearity in the optical fiber. The results show that the use of two modulators combined with the amplification generated the signal with smoother spectrum, which means that the spectrum distribution was more uniform. There was 61.5 % increase of the peak power of the output signal after amplification using an optical amplifier.

Big Data is a new technology and architecture. It can work on a very large volume of a variety of data with high-velocity, discovery, and/or analysis. Big Data is about the fast-growing sources of data such as web logics, Sensor networks, Social media, Internet text and documents, Internet pages, Search Index data, scientific research. Big data also formally introduces a complex range of analysis. Big data can evaluate mixed data (structured and unstructured) from multiple sources. As there are some security issues in big data which are no longer solved using the hashing techniques on large amount of data, this paper shows an idea of new approach of designing a Knox’ified Hadoop cluster.

An accurate medium term load forecasting is significant for power generation scheduling, economic and reliable operation in power system. Most of classical approach for medium term load forecasting only consider total daily load demand. This approach may not provide accurate results since the load demand is fluctuated in a day. In this paper, a hybrid Ant-Lion Optimizer Least-square Support Vector Machine (ALO-LSSVM) is proposed to forecast 24-hour load demand for the next year. Ant-Lion Optimizer (ALO) is utilized to optimize the RBF Kernel parameters in Least-Square Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM). The objective of the optimization is to minimize the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The performance of ALO-LSSVM technique was compared with those obtained from LS-SVM technique through a 10-fold cross-validation procedure. The historical hourly load data are analyzed and appropriate features are selected for the model. There are 24 inputs and 24 outputs vectors for this model which represents 24-hour load demand for whole year. The results revealed that the high accuracy of prediction could be achieved using ALO-LSSVM.
