Abstract

This research investigates the insulation properties of poly methyl methacrylate with titanium dioxide (PMMA:TiO2) nanodielectric film to be used as insulation layer in high voltage (HV) applications. AC and DC breakdown test has been conducted to investigate the insulation properties of PMMA:TiO2 nanodielectric to be used as solid insulation in HV. In this research, the PMMA:TiO2 nanodielectric film were prepared by varying the annealing temperature (60°C up to 180°C) and spin coating techniques wwere used to form the PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite film. The insulation properties of the nanocomposite film were characterized using high voltage test (DC and AC breakdown strength) to identify which nanocompoiste film has the good insulation properties. In addition, different types of electrodes are also used to to measure the insulation properties of nanocompoiste film. The structural properties of PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite films were characterized using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Results from HV test shows that the annealing temperature affected the insulation properties PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite film. By increasing the annealing temperature, the insulation properties decreased. Film anneal at 120 oC has the good insulation compare to other temperature. 120 oC are the optimize temperature to prepared the PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite films. Result from different types of electrodes show that sharp tip has high DC breakdown strength compare to spherical electrodes.

Abstract

In this paper, an android expert system for recommending the suitable journal for publishing the researchers' papers has been presented. In so doing, the expectations of different journals for accepting an article and also the requests of papers' writers for choosing the journals have been examined. Language, quality, waiting time for judgment, waiting time for publication after acceptance, field, length of paper and cost are the system inputs and its output is the degree of suitability of journals for publishing a certain paper. This system includes a database of different journals and their parameters. It uses particle swarm optimization method and K-means++ algorithm for assessing and clustering the journals database and determines an index for every cluster of journals. The process for matching the paper with a cluster's index is done through fuzzy induction system. After choosing the most similar cluster, the paper is compared with all the journals of the cluster in the same way and the result including the most similar journals is presented. This system has been tested for journals and papers in the computer field indexed in Elsevier.

Abstract

BGP is a vital routing protocol for the communication amongst autonomous systems in the internet and has been broadly applied in all categories of large scale network. The inter-domain routing protocol (BGP) shows slow convergence, which effects on many internet applications due to its high convergence delay. The network operators broadly use different MRAI timers in BGP routers to deal with the issue of growing convergence time of the network. The variation in MRAI timer and its impact on network convergence and update messages has been broadly studied over the years. The increasing size of autonomous systems leads to rise in number of MRAI timers. Hence, the optimum use of MRAI timers can decrease the problem of slow convergence and necessity of huge number of MRAI timers. The proposed system uses the ckle minimum route advertisement interval timer (FMRAI) for fast update of routing table, which leads to reduce the convergence time of a network. In comparison with static MRAI timer of 30s the FMRAI timer leads to better result in terms of convergence time and number of update messages.

Abstract

Renewable energy resources are becoming inexorably in the field of generating electrical power due to the fast development of technology, given to its advantages over non-renewable energy resources. Though the source is available in enormous amount, energy produced from single renewable energy resources such as tidal current may fluctuate with the time and the hour of the day or month, depending on the tides. Thus, by having a hybrid power system consisting two or more renewable energy resources coming into play at the same time would be more reliable to support the targeted area. However, the availability of renewable energies depends on the climate change, therefore having a storage battery or backup power is often essential. In this case, the main purpose of this research is to develop an off-grid hybrid tidal current and solar power system along with backup power to support One Fathom Bank Lighthouse in Malaysia with the intention to reduce the dependency on diesel generators. Having the ability to evaluate economic and technical feasibility of power system, HOMER software is used to run simulation and analyze the best combination of components to form a hybrid power system for the lighthouse. The results are based on the best components and sizing in compliance with the load demand and diesel fuel consumption to provide a reliable and cost-effective system.

Abstract

Identification of weak load buses which contributes to voltage instability problem is crucial in order for an appropriate mitigation action to be executed. The current power system transmission is not only stressed to deliver high load demand at the receiving end but also facing new challenges brought by the penetratrion of renewable energy sources. This new scenario requires power system operation and analysis to be robust and fast in detecting the accurate weak load bus for correction action. Due to this, many online indices to detect weak load bus during power system contingency have been developed. Nevertheless, LQP_LT is of the latest index developed which ultimately has the reactive power tracing capability for weak load bus detection and generate priority ranking list of the weak load buses. This index was tested on IEEE 14 bus test system for different contingency scenarios. The results obtained from the LQP_LT index is compared and validated with the PV and QV analyses obtained using industrial graded PSS/E software. It was concluded that the LQP_LT index is found to be robust, efficient and need less computation time as compared to the execution of voltage stability analysis using the PSS/E Tool.

Abstract

Human Resource is an essential part for an organization and integration of technology would just enhance the effectiveness. One of the scope that Human Resource must take note is performance and productivity. However, there is still no infallible or highly reliable way to measure productivity and performance of an organization and its employees for current industrial Human Resource systems. There is still possible improvement that can be made to the system in the current time. The purpose of this study is to propose a modular and extensible framework of Human Resource systems that used to measure the performance and productivity of an organization. This study compares the different criteria of existing Human Resource systems to ensure the proposed framework would surpassed the current real world industrial system. The results of the review provide insights for important criteria in HR system to increase the accuracy of the performance review. This study also constructs Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) to demonstrate the logical structure of the proposed framework. The ERD will form the foundation of the proposed framework to improve the Human Resource system for evaluating the productivity and performance of an organization.

Abstract

Information system (IS) utilizations may have been one of the determinant factors for the survival requirement of the higher education sector in Indonesia. Despite the IS projects have been conducted since the 1980s in this country, but many studies indicated that success of the projects seems like in the low level. This survey study was purposed to know the status of the IS project success among universities by involving the internal stakeholders. The higher education database of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (MRTHE) and the Association of Computing and Informatics Institutions Indonesia (ASCII-I) in the year 2015 were used for selecting around 1.230 respondents based on a purposive random sampling. The blended questionnaires were then distributed with almost 298 (±24%) responses. This paper presents five project profiles, including the aim, IS strategic plan availability, internal team involvement, budget allocation, and the success level of the projects.

Abstract

This paper proposed a new swarm-based optimization technique for tuning conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller parameters of a static var compensator (SVC) which controls a synchronous generator in a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system. As one of the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices, SVC is designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator. In this study, two parameters of PI controller namely proportional gain, KP and integral gain, KI are tuned with a new optimization method called Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). This technique mimics the social behavior of humpback whales which is characterized by their bubble-net hunting strategy in order to enhance the quality of the solution. Validation with respect to damping ratio and eigenvalues determination confirmed that the proposed technique is more efficient than Evolutionary Programming (EP) and Artificial Immune System (AIS) in improving the angle stability of the system. Comparison between WOA, EP and AIS optimization techniques showed that the proposed computation approach gives better solution and faster computation time.

Abstract

Handwritten signatures are playing an important role in finance, banking and education and more because it is considered the “seal of approval” and remains the most preferred means of authentication. In this paper, an offline handwritten signature authentication algorithm is proposed using the edge features and deep feedforward neural network (DFNN). The number of hidden layers in DFNN is configured to be at least one layer and more. In this paper, an exponential decaying number of nodes in the hidden layers was proposed to achieve better recognition rate with reasonable training time. Of the six edge algorithms evaluated, Roberts operator and Canny edge detectors were found to produce better recognition rate. Results showed that the proposed exponential decaying number of nodes in the hidden layers outperform other structure. However, more training data was required so that the proposed DFNN structure could have more efficient learning.
