Abstract

Many researchers focused on automating the activities performed in agriculture using technology. These will certainly a good move towards smart precision agriculture. Integrating intelligent technology using ambient intelligence can create a more visualized interactive and responsive environment. Several existing methods focused on providing automatic irrigation, identification of diseases and prediction crop yield using IoT and image processing. However automating all these activities for a particular cultivation is not an easy task. In this paper, a new intelligent system (IntPaddy) is proposed for automating the cultivation of paddy using ambient in9telligence. This provides farmer an ambient assisted environment for managing their cultural practices. Result also shows that the system will keep on learning and updating based on the farmer?s preferences and activities, thereby enabling them to focus more on other activities also.

Abstract

One of the main problems for the growth of the Colombian market is the short variety of investment instruments found in the local market. In this way, an exchange rate hedging strategy is proposed using exotic options, specifically, barrier-type options. These types of options are not offered in the Colombian market. Monte Carlo simulation is used to determine the effect that the hedging strategy has on currency risk. From the results, it is concluded that the exchange risk is decreased with the hedging strategy because the 5th and 95th percentiles are lower than in the scenario without hedging. Finally, the code that was used to model the barrier options is explained.

Abstract

The inductive power transfer (IPT) has contributed to the fast growth of the electric vehicle (EV) market. The technology to recharge the EV battery has attracted the attention of many researchers and car manufacturers in developing green transportation. In IPT charging system, the coil design is indispensable in enhancing the EV battery charging process performance. This paper starts by describing the two charging techniques; static charging and dynamic charging before further presents the IPT system descriptions. Afterwards, this paper describes a brief review of coil designs which discusses the critical factors that affect the power transmission efficiency (PTE) including their basic designs, design concepts and features merits. The discussions on the basic coil designs for IPT are of the circular spiral coil (CSC), square coil (SC), rectangular coil (RC), and double-D coil (DDC). Furthermore, the significant advantages and limitations of each research on different geometries are analyzed and discussed in this paper. Finally, this paper evaluates some essential aspects that influence the coil geometry designs in practical.

Abstract

In medical and scientific imaging, lossless image compression is recommended because the loss of minor details subject to medical diagnosis can lead to wrong diagniosis. On the other hand, lossy compression of medical images is required in the long run because a huge quantity of medical data needs remote storage. This, in turn, takes long time to search and transfer an image. Instead of thinking lossless or lossy image compression methods, near-loss image compression mehod can be used to compromise the two conflicting requirements. In the previous work, an edge adaptive hierarchical interpolation (EAHINT) was proposed for resolution scalable lossless compression of images. In this paper, it was enhanced for scalable near-less image compression. The interpolator of this arlgorithm swiches among one-directional, multi-directional and non-directional linear interpolators adaptively based on the strength of the edge in a 3x3 local casual context of the current pixel being predicted. The strength of the edge in local window was estimated using the variance of the the pixels in the local window. Although the actual predictors are still linear functions, the switching mechanism tried to deal with non-linear structures like edges. Simulation results demonstrate that the improved interpolation algorithm has better compression ratio over the the exsisting the original EAHINT algorithm and JPEG-Ls image compression standard.

Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) devices are spread in different areas such as e-tracking, e-commerce, e-home, and e-health, etc. Thus, during the last ten years, the internet of things technology (IoT) has been a research focus. Both privacy and security are the key concerns for the applications of IoT, and still face a huge number of challenges. There are many elements used to run the IoT technology which include hardware and software such as sensors, GPS, cameras, applications, and so forth. In this paper, we have analyzed and explain the technology of IoT along with its elements, security features, security issues, and threats that attached to each layer of IoT to guide the consideration of researchers into solve and understand the most serious problems in IoT environment.

Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the performances of non-independent speed control of dual-pmsm (permanent magnet synchronize motor) drives by a single three-leg voltage source inverter (VSI) using control of mean and differential torque technique. In general, there are two types of control strategies for dual-motor drives. One is master-slave technique and another one is mean control technique. For mean control technique, this study chooses mean and differential approach for the motors parameters and using average value for the voltage space vector. The advantages of dual-motor drives fed by a single inverter topology are, it can decrease the size and cost compared to the dual-motor drives which used by individual inverter, either in industrial or in traction applications. However, by using a single three-phase inverter, the topology only restricted for the same operating conditions which are at the same speed, same parameters and same direction. The dual-motors are dependent (non-independent) on the other motor. It is can only be tested on different load operation. The analysis is focuses on speed and load variation for dual-PMSM drives considering the forward and reverse operations of the motor. This simulation model is modelled using MATLAB-Simulink.

Abstract

This paper proposes a nearest level control method based modulation scheme for a 9-level symmetrical Transistor Clamped H-bridge (TCHB) inverter. The topology has gained increasing research focus due to its advantages in obtaining high quality output while using a reduced number of electronic components. The device count for obtaining a 9-level output voltage is it uses 10 active switches as compared to the 16 being used in a conventional 9-level cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverter. The significant contribution of the research is the development of the NLC modulation technique that operates at the fundamental frequency, thus reducing switching losses, and able to reduce harmonic content significantly. The reduced harmonic content can lessen the power quality problem. The NLC modulation scheme, shows that the overall THD is reduced without the need for filtration. The 50 values of harmonic content will be count that follows the IEEE Standard 519. MATLAB/Simulink based simulations and experimental results obtained from the laboratory prototype of a single-phase TCHB inverter feeding a R load validate the theoretical analyses and effectiveness of the proposed modulation scheme.

Abstract

Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) has shown excellent performance in dealing with the non-linearity and complex dynamic model of the induction motor. However, a conventional constant parameter FLC (CPFL) will not be able to provide–good coverage performance for a wide speed range operation with a single tuning parameter. Therefore, this paper proposed a self tuning mechanism FLC approach by model reference adaptive controller (ST-MRAC) to continuously allow to adjust the parameters. Due to real time hardware application, the dominant rules selection method for simplified rules has been implemented as part of the reducing computational burden. Experiment results validate a good performance of the ST-MRAC compared to the CPFL for the   speed performance in terms of the wide range of operations and disturbance showed remarkable performance.

Abstract

In this paper, the improvement of torque ripple reduction will be focused based on the optimal voltage vector. This is attained by using five-level CHB inverter that applies in DTC drive control as a proposed method. The analysis is performed and simulated by using MATLAB/Simulink. In order to support the analysis, the comparison is realized between proposed method and conventional method which it applies two-level inverter. It will be analysed at constant torque region or steady-state operation on different range of operating speed which the speed is controlled by adjusting the motor load. Meaning that, the speed controller is neglected during analysis. Nevertheless, the adjustment of motor load must be applicable to the optimal voltage vector. The look-up table of five-level CHB inverter will become a guideline to select the optimal voltage vector. Therefore, it can maintain the simple structure of DTC hysteresis-based that fed by using five-level CHB inverter. As a result, the torque ripple can be minimized and torque capability can be retained even at low operating speed compared to the conventional DTC.

Abstract

Recently, global research is giving more attention to the renewable energy sources due to its sustainability and environmentally friendly nature. The necessity of DC to AC conversion to integrate these sources to the well established AC power system create a significant development of multi-level inverter with its advantages of operating at higher rating system with lower component rating as well as better harmonics performance at it output voltage and current. In this research paper, a modified topology of CHB-MLI to provide 13-level output AC waveform is proposed based on the SHE-PWM strategy using the ANN optimization technique. The system modeling is done with Matlab Simulink software and verification are carried out by both simulation and experiment. Results show that the ANN technique able to reduce the THD significantly as the level of waveform is increased as low as 5.16% THD for the 13-level output voltage. Results from the experiment shows a good agreement with the simulation, thus verifying the effectiveness of the proposed ANN technique as an optimization method.
