Abstract

Actuators formed from piezoelectric ceramics were embedded in truss rods to make up active rods. The paper used mechanical knowledge, static stiffness method and the finite element method to analyze the active rod and the smart truss structure and then model them. In order to solve the difficult problem of number optimization, the paper put forward the actuator existence variable and optimized number and locations of actuators at the same time, made the structure have the best output effect, so it can reduce the displacement at the designated location of the truss structure and the structure vibration. It also can improve the truss structure accuracy. Then find the optimal solution by genetic algorithms(GA) and MATLAB programming. The results of the example show that the model this paper builds is correct and genetic algorithms are effective in solving the optimization question. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i7.1552

Abstract

Citizen identification in Malaysia is managed by Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN); a Malaysian Government Agency responsible in producing a national identification card called MyKad which contains textual information of the MyKad holder as well as fingerprint data. The current business modal solely relies on fingerprint identification as recognition process which presents limitations to Malaysian citizens who have finger disabilities. Currently, this matter is addressed by having applicants provide proof of identification which is then verified by the agency within three months. To improve efficiency of this process as well as making it friendlier for applicants to apply their MyKad, the use of facial recognition is proposed as a potential solution. A series of study was conducted with JPN, which intends to measure the reliability of a multimodal biometrics system in JPN environment for finger-disabled applicants. Findings demonstrate that Multimodal Biometrics System using Facial Recognition is reliable for individual identification.

Abstract

Despite a tremendous development in optimal power flow (OPF), owing to the obvious complexity, non-linearity and unwieldy size of the large interconnected power systems, several problems remain unanswered in the existing methods of OPF. Seizing specific topics for maximizing voltage stability margin and its implementation, a detailed literature survey discussing the existing methods of solution and their drawbacks is presented in this research. The phenomenon of voltage collapse in power systems, methods to investigate voltage collapse, and methods related to voltage stability are briefly surveyed. Finally, the study presents a statistical method for analyzing a power system through eigenvalue analysis in relation to the singular values of the load flow Jacobian. Future study may focus on changes in theories in conjunction with large power systems.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel study for SSR mitigating in the wind power systems based on DFIG using GCSC (Gate controlled series capacitor). The GCSC is composed of three pairs of anti-parallel GTO Thyristors (Gate Turn- off) connected in parallel with a fixed capacitor. The GCSC is applied to reduce inrush current in capacitor compensator during the transient operation by executing a proper firing angle control of thyristor gates. In order to realize SSR oscillation when the transient operation occurred, the DFIG turbine is connected through the shaft turbine model. The simulation results shown that the GCSC device is suitable and reasonable for suppressing SSR caused by torsional interaction (TI) and torque amplification (TA) and also damping the subsynchronous oscillation as well. The transient simulations have been carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC program to demonstrate the capability of the GCSC device in mitigating SSR.

Abstract

In view of the disadvantages of traditional position sensor, a novel permanent magnet tracking position sensor is proposed. The hall component is used to convert the magnetic signal reflecting the shaft velocity and position into an electrical signal by the construction and optimization of magnetic field. Abstract

This paper presents computational intelligence-based technique for congestion management and compensation scheme in power systems. Firstly, a new model termed as Integrated Multilayer Artificial Neural Networks (IMLANNs) is developed to predict congested line and voltage stability index separately. Consequently, a new optimization technique termed as Clonal Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (CEPSO) was developed. CEPSO is initially used to optimize the location and sizing of FACTS devices for compensation scheme. In this study, Static VAR Compensator (SVC) and Thyristor Control Static Compensator (TCSC) are the two chosen Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices used in this compensation scheme. Comparative studies have been conducted between the proposed CEPSO and traditional Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Results obtained by the developed IMLANNs demonstrated high accuracy with respect to the targeted output. Consequently, the proposed CEPSO implemented for single objective in single unit of SVC and TCSC has resulted superior results as compared to the traditional PSO in terms of achieving loss reduction and voltage profile improvement.

Abstract

IoT is the succeeding cohort of the digital computing environment. A swift progression in the IoT deployment and its applications are on the rise. Improving load balancing mechanisms induces healthier performance of the internet based computing as higher number of users can be comfortable. Implementing full services for tasks with unstable concurrency is an uphill process. One of the encounters allied with this administration is the task partition among the applications, regularly referred as concurrent programs. Through load balancing not only resources are equally utilized but also concurrent job’s response time can be promoted. Therefore, in this paper the widely used load balancing algorithms are investigated and yet the proposed algorithm is introduced. Simulation is employed in order to compare the performance metrics such as mean queue length, utilization and throughput between the recommended and existing algorithms. The proposed algorithm confirms the load balancing and outperforms when processing unstable concurrent programs.

Abstract

Of the many audio features available, this paper focuses on the comparison of two most popular features, i.e. line spectral frequencies (LSF) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients. We trained a feedforward neural network with various hidden layers and number of hidden nodes to identify five different languages, i.e. Arabic, Chinese, English, Korean, and Malay. LSF, MFCC, and combination of both features were extracted as the feature vectors. Systematic experiments have been conducted to find the optimum parameters, i.e. sampling frequency, frame size, model order, and structure of neural network. The recognition rate per frame was converted to recognition rate per audio file using majority voting. On average, the recognition rate for LSF, MFCC, and combination of both features are 96%, 92%, and 96%, respectively. Therefore, LSF is the most suitable features to be utilized for language identification using feedforward neural network classifier.

Abstract

This work has presented the interaction between tangential/sagittal cylindrical thin lens in the titled plane parallel crystal. Stability criterion parameters are measured under the control of curvature radius of a spherical mirror, the thickness of the tilted plane crystal, the refractive index of tilted plane crystal, the thickness for a plate of matter and phase angle of the sagittal cylindrical thin lens. Beam radius waist is plotted against the focal length of the tangential cylindrical thin lens. Focal length for both thin lens in resonator crystal is optimized to upgrade the resonator system operation efficiency.

Abstract

Applications in the signal processing technology corresponding to various gauges have been widely popularized exploration. However, there is rarely proposed corresponding to how to employ gauge reader with lower cost but longer distance. M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is an inexpensive solution for widespread networking and remote meter reading for the consumption data collection. This work based on the M-Bus technology presented a novel signal processing technology of Advanced Gauge Reader System (AGRS). In particular, this paper also implemented the proposed device for real applications. The proposed AGRS is a cost-effective, stable and reliable remote water meter reading system. Numerous simulations and tests have been made to demonstrate the efficiency of this work.
