Abstract

The introduction of this micro grids into the conventional distribution network system forces a new challenge to the system operation. The failure factor of the power system performance essentially due to the limitation of electrical power generation in which could not meet the load demand. In order to maintain the frequency stability of the system, the power sources must be matched instantaneously among all generators and constantly supply to the load demand. A deviation of system frequency from the set-point value will affect the entire stability of power system network. This paper investigates the impact of utilizing multiple micro grids in supporting and facilitating on grid’s frequency. A method called Frequency Control Reserve (FCR) is introduced, with intention to share the excessive power from all available micro grids. These power will be controlled effectively before being injected into the main grid to stabilize the power frequency. Simulation using MATLAB Simulink have been used to simulate the result and shows great potential to be integrated with distributed generation i.e. solar photovoltaic (PV) for Malaysia power system vicinity.

Abstract

Euler-Lagrange (EL) model of voltage source PWM rectifier is set up based on its model in synchronous dq coordinates. Passivity based controller is designed on the basis of passivity and EL model of voltage source PWM rectifier. Three switching function are educed by passivity based controller. A switching function is only realized in engineering consequently. Voltage source PWM rectifier using passivity based controller has many advantages, such as simpler structure, low total harmonic distortion, and good disturbance rejection performance. Passivity based control law is proved feasible by simulink simulation. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i5.1343

Abstract

Network on chip (NoC) traffic congestion was one of the important reasons for the data transmission performance degradation. In this paper, we presented a congestion judgment algorithm, which was based on neural network. The congestion control algorithm firstly used the hamming network to compute the NoC's link buffer congestion state, secondly used the competitive network to find the worst congestion node, and then adopted avoiding congested node  routing policy to improve the NoC’s transmission performance. In this paper, the congestion control algorithm can make the data stream as far as possible evenly distributed in the NoC’s nodes and links and reduce the transmission resource competition. The simulation results showed that the congestion control algorithm could achieve better network throughput and average transmission delay. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3987

Abstract

The phenomenon of network resource-constrained often appears in wireless sensor network (WSN) because of nodes with energy-limited, so it becomes a research topic to study on high-performance routing protocol in wireless sensor network. In accordance with the characteristic of quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO), a novel clustering routing protocol with QPSO algorithm is proposed based on the low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH), which includes several steps, such as determining the number of cluster-head, preliminary clustering, optimization on temporary cluster by QPSO algorithm, clustering after optimization, and so on. Comparative analysis on simulation experiments show that the proposed routing protocol is superior to that of LEACH, and saves energy consumption of network excellently and balances energy of nodes so as to prolong the life of the network.DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i6.5533

Abstract

Task decomposition is on of the most important activities for manufacturing task planning in Manufacturing Grid. Many achievements in the methods to decompose manufacturing tasks have been obtained. But as for the decomposition granularity, the study and research are rare. Referring to the principle of “strong cohesion and weak coupling” in the software engineering field, the decomposition model of manufacturing task is built up, in which a manufacturing task is decomposed into different subtasks, and each subtask is composed of various processing events. On the basis of the model, the constraint among processing events within the subtasks is analyzed. Then the evaluation index on decomposition granularity of manufacturing task is put forward based on several definitions and evaluation steps for the decomposition granularity of manufacturing task are listed. Finally, examples to illustrate the idea of the paper are given. We hope the work of the paper can promote the study and application for Manufacturing Grid further. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i2.2070

Abstract

The efficiency of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels is affected by its operating temperature. Having high irradiance produces high electrical output but also heats up the panel and reducing the panels efficiency. This study investigates the effect of cooling solar PV panels using 750g of paraffin wax as phase change material (PCM) applied to the back plate of a solar PV panel. The experiment is done at Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia. The result is reduction of up to 9.5°C, increase of up to 0.947W or 11.82% of electrical power output when compared to the panel without any PCM applied. The panel cooled with PCM also produced 4.69% more energy

Abstract

Aircraft fuel tank leakage is a very common maintenance problem. A continuum robot is designed for troubleshooting of leaks for fuel tank which has strong constraints and is also explosive. The biomimetic robot with several flexible sections applies actuation redundancy through pulling its four independent driving cables to realize bending motion of two degrees of freedom (DOF). The forward kinematics about the relations of cables lengths, angles and tip coordinates of single section is established using projection curvature method and coordinates transformation method. The decoupled multi-section kinematics function is deduced based on the kinematics analysis of single section. Simulations of single section motion are presented. We demonstrate finally the correctness of kinematics method through prototype experiments. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2814

Abstract

Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum, which is a limited resource, is facing the challenge of fulfilling the need of ever-growing users. To accommodate these users in an efficient manner, the idea of Cognitive Radio (CR) was proposed. It allows unlicensed users to use the licensed bands when the primary user is not using its band. To check the availability of the free spectrum, the system should be able to sense the RF environment around it, thus spectrum sensing becomes an important aspect of CR. In this work, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to determine the periodic sensing schedule to maximize the number of transmission opportunities for unlicensed band users as well as to minimize interference with licensed users. This optimization scheme generates a maximum number of transmission opportunities with minimum interruption to the licensed user’s communication. The MATLAB software is used for simulation.

Abstract

In order to reduce the relative intensity noise (RIN) in the interferometric signal of the fiber optic gyroscope (FOG), an adaptive noise subtraction method is presented, which aims to overcome to the drawbacks that the fixed delay time and gain of the digital noise subtraction method. The drawbacks will make the performance of FOG to be degraded greatly in the changing environment. In the paper the adaptive noise subtraction system based on the recursive least squares algorithm (RLS) is formed in FPGA, in which the interferometric signal is regarded as the signal source, and RIN in the free end of the optical fiber coupler of FOG is looked as the noise reference signal. The two critical parameters that minimum delay time and its varying range result from measuring the minimum and maximum delay times of the interferometric signal in a certain temperature range. The off-line and on-line temperature experimental results verify the capability of adapting to the environmental temperature. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i1.3373
