Abstract

Web-based collaborative learning is well accepted learning methods since it provides flexibilities not only in term of learners’ interaction but also its timeliness learning materials. Even though there are many websites offer learning materials for Muslims generally but for new converted Muslims getting authentic materials and proper guidance are complicated. Hence, a web-based problem-based collaborative learning is proposed. This method integrates an elected virtual instructor to facilitate and support the new converted Muslims’ cognitive and emotional activities, develop their confidence of resolving and dealing with problems they are facing. This paper relates and analyzes the problem-based collaborative learning in terms of the functionality and user acceptance. Based on a survey conducted, it shows that 85% of the respondents found the system very useful and easy to use while 80%found that the system met their requirements. This system hypothetically able to help, and ease new converted Muslims in exploring Islamic authentic knowledge by using problem-based technique in web-based collaborative learning.

Abstract

This paper aims to study the selection of features based on ECG in emotion recognition. In the process of features selection, we start from existing feature selection algorithm, and pay special attention to some of the intuitive value on ECG waveform as well. Through the use of ANOVA and heuristic search, we picked out the different features to distinguish joy and pleasure these two emotions, then we combine this with pathological analysis of ECG signals by the view of the medical experts to discuss the logic corresponding relation between ECG waveform and emotion distinguish. Through experiment, using the method in this paper we only picked out five features and reached 92% of accuracy rate in the recognition of joy and pleasure. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2215

Abstract

Information technology (IT) resource management is considered as one of the main pillars of Information System (IS) governance in the company. In this article, we propose a systemic approach from the structural paradigm based essentially on the formal extension of the ISO 19440 Meta-model. This structure contains specific constructs from the Cobit framework and system tools as the Galois lattices, likely to bring a better vision of the use of IT resource in the company. This technique allows a systemic analysis applied to special structural matrices to evaluate the deployment mode of IT resource to achieve business processes. Such approach allows a good optimization of IT resource as a pragmatic and effective contribution to Information System governance.

Abstract

This research investigates the application of texture features for leaf recognition for herbal plant identification.  Malaysia is rich with herbal plants but not many people can identify them and know about their uses.   Preservation of the knowledge of these herb plants is important since it enables the general public to gain useful knowledge which they can apply whenever necessary.  Leaf image is chosen for plant recognition since it is available and visible all the time.   Unlike flowers that are not always available or roots that are not visible and not easy to obtain, leaf is the most abundant type of data available in botanical reference collections.  A comparative study has been conducted among three popular texture features that are Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG), Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Speeded-Up Robust Features (SURF) with multiclass Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier.  A new leaf dataset has been constructed from ten different herb plants.  Experimental results using the new constructed dataset and Flavia, an existing dataset, indicate that HOG and LBP produce similar leaf recognition performance and they are better than SURF.

Abstract

The multiple watermarking technique has drawn more attention due to high demand for embedding more than one copyright. This paper proposes a multiple watermarking scheme using DWT-SVD by utilizing HVS characteristics. Our scheme embeds multiple watermarks in red and blue colors. The proposed scheme examines the coefficients of U orthogonal matrix for embedding and extracting watermarks. Watermarks are scrambled by Arnold transform before embedded in the host image in order provide additional security. The optimal thresholds for red and blue colors are revealed by finding a trade-off between normalized-cross correlation and imperceptibility from quantization steps. The experimental results demonstrate that our scheme achieves high resistant under JPEG and JPEG2000 compression for both inserted watermarks.

Abstract

On the basis of the analysis of PVT solution methods for navigation message, the solution procedure of evaluation algorithm of LSM and Kaman filtering evaluation algorithm is constructed. Further, based on OEM development board for data acquisition, PVT solution process of collected GPS signals is simulated, and the results show that the solution property of Kaman filtering algorithm is much better than LSM. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.4177

Abstract

Development of sensor technologies and the prevalence of electronic communication services provide us with a huge amount of data on human communication behavior, including face-to-face conversations, e-mail exchanges, phone calls, message exchanges and other types of interactions in various online forums. These indirect or direct interaction form potential bridges of the virus spread. For a long time, the study of virus spread is based on the aggregate static network. However, the interaction patterns containing diverse temporal properties may affect dynamic processes as much as the network topology does. Some empirical studies show, the activation time and duration of vertices and links are highly heterogeneous, which means intense activity may be followed by longer intervals inactivity. We take heterogeneous distribution of the node inter-activation time as the research background to build an asynchronous communication model. The two sides of the communication don't have to be active at the same time. One derives the threshold of virus spreading on the communication mode and analyzes the reason the heterogeneous distribution of the vertex inter-activation time suppress the spread of virus. At last, the analysis and results from the model are verified on the BA network.

Abstract

The multi level inverter system is mostly used in ac drives, when both reduced harmonic contents and high power are required. In this paper a new topology of multilevel inverter is introduced. This type has many steps with less power electronic switches. Due to the less number of switches the cost of the inverter is very less and also less installation area is required. Firstly, we describe briefly the structural parts of the inverter then switching strategy and operational principles of the proposed inverter are explained and operational topologies are given. Simulation is performed using MATLAB SIMULINK. Various PWM techniques are applied to the circuit such as PDPWM, PODPWM, APODPWM, VFPWM and COPWM. By comparing among the PWM techniques, PODPWM provide the less THD value and COPWM provide a higher fundamental RMS output voltage.

Abstract

The traditional decision-making methods of investment decision about coal mine projects have many deficiencies. Decision model of coal mine project option is proposed in paper . Firstly, analysis the characteristics which include uncertainty and irreversibility of physical option and build a suitable model after researching the significance ,then decide the best time though the coal mine project. Finally, case analysis presents the application of this method and provides strong theoretical basis for decision in coal mine project. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2857
