Abstract

Solar power is a renewable energy seen as one of the primary sources for electricity production in order to meet our daily needs. The conversion operation is sensitive and non-fault tolerant that can occur during operation of the system that affects its overall performance. We propose in this present paper a compact, low power and low-cost datalogger for the control and the monitoring based on a survey measures of five important physical parameters in the management and monitoring of the functioning of an electric system based on solar panels. These measures will be carried out at regular intervals, configurable through a PIC18F4520 microcontroller and stored in a large capacity memory type SD card.

Abstract

Technological advances allowing optimal exploitation of renewable energy sources and the development of new information and communications technology (ICT), have led to the appearance of a new network so-called Smart Grid. This article is dedicated to the study of similarities and differences between the smart grid and the computer network, thus, in order to better carry out this comparison. Firstly, we present the structure, operational model and benefits of smart grid. Secondly, we identify analogous quantities and similar parameters between the two networks. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v15i1.8087

Abstract

The Objective of the paper is to investigate walking stability of picking wheel robot in the fields of medium speed and high load complex operating environment. Firsly, we analyze the influence on walking control for simplified dynamic model of picking robot and its remaining (instabilities), guarantee the stability and convergence of simplified system for tracking errors using the Lyapunov theory. Secondly, adaptive stabilization and tracking control algorithm is proposed on farmland in order to overcome its uncertainty and disturbances. Finally, the effectiveness and stability of the algorithm is verified using matlab simulation and experiment in the case of high load and medium speed. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i8.1652

Abstract

Under the rapid development of satellite communication systems and satellite navigation systems, there is an urgent need to combine the two together in order to achieve location-based services, etc. Despite the long relationship history of navigation and communication, the two satellite systems are basically independent of each other. As a result, terminal size tends to be relatively large, and difficult to be miniaturized. This article puts forward a novel idea that satellite navigation and satellite communication functions are integrated together in the signal level, and gives four types of the integrated navigation and communication signal structures which are composed of message, spreading code and carrier. It lays a technical foundation for the in-depth development of the integration of navigation and communication systems in signal level. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i8.3034

Abstract

This paper simplifies the energy recovery process in the series hydraulic hybrid bus’ energy regeneration system into a process in which the main axle’s moment of inertia drives the secondary element variable delivery pump/motor and brings hydraulic oil from the oil tank to the accumulator. This process enables braking of the vehicle and also allows recovery of energy to the accumulator. Based on the flow equation for the secondary element variable delivery pump/motor and the torque equilibrium equation for its axle, the force equilibrium equation for vehicle braking and the pressure variation and flow continuity equations for the accumulator, simulation studies are conducted to analyze the effects of various system parameters, such as accumulator capacity, displacement of the secondary element variable delivery pump/motor, initial operating pressure of the system, etc. on system performance during regenerative braking. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i6.1420

Abstract

Internet of Things technology allows many devices to connect with each other. The interaction could be between humans and devices or between devices itself. In fact, the data are traveling between the devices through the media within the boundary, and it could be traveling outside the boundary when it required to be analyzed or stored in the cloud through the internet. Due the transmission media and internet, the data are vulnerable to attacks. Thus, the data need to be encrypted strongly for the purpose of protection. Usually, most of the encryption techniques will consume computer resources. In this work, we divide the data that are used in the IoT environment into three levels of sensitivity which are low, medium and high sensitive data to leverage the computer resources such as time of encryption and decryption, battery usage and so on. A framework is proposed in this work to encrypt the data depends on the level of sensitivity using the machine learning K nearest neighbors (K-NN).

Abstract

This paper proposes a switching control for a cascaded H-bridge inverter structure with reduced switches which is used to improve the THD performance of a single phase five level CHB MLI. The multi level inverter is simulated for the conventional carrier overlapping APOD and the proposed carrier overlapping APOD Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) switching control technique. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltages are observed for both PWM control techniques. The performance of the symmetric CHB MLI is simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK. It is observed that the proposed carrier overlapping APODPWM provides output with relatively low THD as compared to the conventional carrier overlapping APODPWM.

Abstract

The number of patients in hospital keep increasing every year and, some patients’s blood pressure must be measured by medical staff regularly. This means that the medical staff need to attend to the patient routinely and several readings are required in each session to make sure the results are accurate. Therefore, there is a need to simplify the monitoring process inside hospital in Malaysia. In this work, IoT blood pressure monitoring system (IBPMS) is designed to monitor patient’s blood pressure remotely. This project use Raspberry Pi as a gateway to view the value of blood pressure online. Result showed that the design is capable to transfer data from blood pressure detector through the network using USB TTL serial cable which is directly attached to the Raspberry Pi. User can also view the blood pressure reading continuously from Telegram application and email service. Furthermore, the system can measure the value of blood pressure accurately when user is in sitting position.

Abstract

Fuel cost of a thermal generator is its own load functions. In this research, Modified Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (MIPSO) is applied to calculate economic dispatch. Constriction Factor Approach (CFA) is used to modify IPSO algorithm because of the advantage to improve the ability of global searching and avoid local minimum so that the time needed to converge become faster. Simulation results achieved by using  MIPSO method at the time of peak load of of 9602 MW, obtained generation cost is Rp 7,366,912,798,34 per hour, while generation cost of real system is Rp. 7,724,012,070.30 per hour. From the simulation result can be concluded that MIPSO can reduce the generation cost of  500 kV Jawa Bali transmission system of Rp 357,099,271.96 per hour or equal to 4,64%. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i3.880

Abstract

In low light environment, the surveillance video image has lower contrast, less information and uneven brightness. To solve this problem, this paper puts forward a contrast resolution compensation algorithm based on human visual perception model. It extracts Y component from the YUV video image acquired by camera originally to subtract contrast feature parameters, then makes a proportional integral type contrast resolution compensation for low light pixels in Y component and makes index contrast resolution compensation for high light pixels adaptively to enhance brightness of the video image while maintains the U and V components. Then it compresses the video images and transmits them via internet. Finally, it decodes and displays the video image on the device of intelligent surveillance system. The experimental results show that, the algorithm can effectively improve the contrast resolution of the video image and maintain the color of video image well. It also can meet the real-time requirement of video monitoring.
