Abstract

Continuous partial discharge (PD) monitoring and early PD detection is important in making sure the necessary preventative measures can be taken accordingly. This paper proposed a T-shaped partial ground microstrip patch antenna that is able to detect PD signal within the UHF range. The antenna was designed and simulated using CST Microwave Studio. The antenna was then fabricated using FR4 substrate material and tested for reception test. The simulation results and the analysis from the fabricated antenna confirmed that the proposed antenna able to detect PD signal at UHF range (specifically at about 500 MHz) and fulfilled the design requirements in terms of the return loss, VSWR, bandwidth and gain. Reception test had confirmed that the proposed antenna was able to detect PD signals that are located at maximum distance, ranges from 37 cm to 70 cm (depending on the PD signal strength). The proposed antenna also had succesfully detected PD occurances at 300 MHz to 700 MHz. In conclusion, the proposed T-shaped partial ground microstrip patch antenna had been successfully designed and able to detect PD signal emitted in the UHF range.

Abstract

Ultrasound elastography has been well applied in early tumor diagnosis for obtaining tissue stiffness information. Elastograpyy may provide useful clinical information for the tissue characterization. But ultrasonic wave interference will produce speckle in both phase and envelope. So in conventional ultrasound elastography, there are noise artifacts which produce some misdiagnosis. In this paper, we investigate bilateral filter de-noising method to reduce the speckle. Because the bilateral filter de-noising method can greatly smooth the speckle at the same time protect the lesion edge well, it has been well proved good impact in B-mode. But in ultrasound elastography, the bilateral filter hasn’t been used. So we use the bilateral filter to reduce artifacts to prove the performance of this method .In the experiment, because of the bilateral filter de-noising method, the noise artifacts will be reduced largely. We use SNRe and CNRe to verify the performance of the bilateral filter and finally this method proved a significant improvement to SNRe and CNRe. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i4.2343

Abstract

Since sensors have limited power resources, energy consumption has become a critical challenge to Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Most of the routing protocols proposed to transmit data packets through paths which consume low energy aim simply to reduce battery power consumption. This can lead to lead to network partition and reduce network lifetime. Therefore, to balance energy consumption and extend network lifetime while minimizing packet delivery delay; this paper proposes a new energy-routing protocol using the lifelong planning A-star (LPA-star) search algorithm. This algorithm is used to find an optimum forwarding path between the source node and the sink. The optimum path can be selected depending on highest residual sensor energy, the shortest distance to the sink and lowest traffic load. Simulation results indicate that the proposed protocol increased the lifetime of the network compared with the A-star routing (EERP) protocol.

Abstract

Temperature measurement is an important link in industrial production, also an important part of modern testing technology. The traditional single bridge circuit is already unable to meet the requirements of modern precise temperature measurement system on temperature measurement. The relation between the output voltage of general Wheatstone bridge and real strain is nonlinear. The nonlinear error will be very serious if the variance ratio of resistance ΔR/ R is very large. Platinum resistance temperature sensor as temperature element may also cause nonlinear error. And measuring ranges small for bridge. This paper designs RC filter circuit and second-order band-pass filter circuit as the core of a new type of temperature measurement circuit ,introduces the principle of temperature measurement and the generation of signal source .Circuit cooperates with thermistor sensor, not only realizes the high precise temperature measurement, but also solves the measurement error of sensor produced from heating. Experiment checks that measuring precision can satisfy measurement requirements. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i8.3105

Abstract

The modern photovoltaic (PV) inverters are embedded with smart control capabilities such as Volt/Var and Volt/Watt functions to mitigate overvoltage issues. The Volt/Var control has gained a significant attention in regulating grid voltage through reactive power compensation. However, the reactive power capability of a PV inverter is limited during peak irradiance and could be improved by curtailing the active power generation and by oversizing the PV inverter. This paper analyzes the performance of Volt/Var function of smart PV inverters in mitigating overvoltage issues due to high PV integration and thus increasing the hosting capacity of low voltage distribution networks (LVDNs). The study is conducted on a real Malaysian LVDN considering two different Volt/Var set points under different PV penetration levels. Results demonstrate that the oversized smart PV inverter could enhance the Volt/Var functionality by increasing its reactive power capability than a typical smart PV inverter. Further it reveals that adaptation of sensitive Volt/Var set points with shorter deadbands increase the PV hosting capacity of LVDNs.

Abstract

Technically, electricity business under competition structure is more complex than that of vertically integrated one. The main prolems here are how to create an applicable competition framework and to solve electric calculations very quickly to obtain an optimal energi pricing, cost of losses, congestion and transportation costs by less than 15 minutes. This paper proposes a competition framework with the electric calculations, where  a bilateral contract has been accommodated. Optimal energy price in the paper is calculated based on direct method of economic dispatch to obtain the result very quickly. The proposed method has been simulated to a 4-bus system. The simulation results show that the method works well and complies with the expectation. Therefore, electric power business under competition structure can be well realized by the proposed method. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.849

Abstract

On the basis of multi-sensor fusion algorithm, a target recognition algorithm based on Back Propagation (BP) neural networks and invariant moments was proposed. Invariant moment takes advantage of overall information of the targets. It has good differentiating effect and high identification technique. On the other hand, BP neural networks not only have the adaptive learning ability, but also are insensitive to imperfection of input mode. Therefore, it has proper classification and extensibility. It is effective for the algorithm based on BP neural networks and invariant moments that decrease the adverse impacts for the images, which are always subject to the changes of imaging distance, direction and position. Simulation results show that the algorithm has strong recognition capability for surface targets from infrared image sensors. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i2.2062

Abstract

A mount of data of microblogs is needed to be crawled for research, business analyzing, and so on. However, a lot of dynamic Web techniques are used in microblog Web pages. That makes it hard to crawl data by parsing the contents of Web pages for traditional Web page crawlers. Fortunately, microblogs provide APIs. Well-structured data can be returned to users simply by accessing those APIs in form of URLs. Basing on that mechanism, researchers have obtained some data from microblogs to research. Nevertheless, no common software for crawling microblog has been published up to now. Everyone has to start designing a microblog crawler from very beginning. A common software architecture based on microblog APIs for microblog crawler is proposed in this paper, which is named as MBCrawler. Its structure, architecture, and key classes are introduced. It can be seen that MBCrawler is modular and scalable. By implementing a real microblog crawler for Sina Weibo, it is shown that MBCrawler can fit specific features of different microblogs. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2805

Abstract

Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) are usually equipped with vision sensors. However, the underwater images captured by AUV often suffer from effects such as diffusion, scatter and caustics. So image enhancement methods are necessary to increase visual quality. A Median filter de-noising approach based on multi-wavelet transform was proposed to remove the impulse noise viewed as random noise from the blurred underwater image. Biorthogonal muti-wavelet has two scaling functions that may generate different multiresolution analysis, so it was chosen as the basic wavelet for underwater image two-layer decomposition and reconstruction. On this basis, the blurred underwater image was decomposed and reconstructed adopting Biorthogonal and the Median filter was applied for removing the impulse noise form the decomposition images of each layer. Four indexes were involved to evaluate the performance of de-noising. The results show that the proposed approach provides superior results compared to other de-noising method. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i3.4505
