Abstract

This paper presents the outcome of a literature review that an overview of various types of antenna and metamaterial applicator performance towards cancerous tissue or cell for non-invasive hyperthermia cancer treatment (NIHCT) procedure. From the review, it shows that when LHM lens integrated with an antenna, focusing capabilities of the antenna towards the cancerous area can be improved. However, current applicators have a poor focusing effect when directed towards the actual tumor area. In conjunction with that, this paper proposes a new design of modified applicator that is microstrip antenna integrated with left-handed metamaterial (LHM) lens. The antenna termed microstrip-LHM (M-LHM) lens antenna is proposed for use in NIHCT. It is expected to improve the focusing capabilities of an antenna which is used to kill the cancerous area and thus improve the hyperthermia cancer treatment procedure success rate. In addition, this paper provides an overview of heating techniques used in hyperthermia to enhance focusing capabilities and a few metamaterial advantages that can improve the focusing effect and reduced the hot-spots. Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) will be investigated to evaluate the focusing abilities of the proposed applicator using the SEMCAD X Solver.

Abstract

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is the most popular signaling protocol using in order to establish, modify and terminate the session multimedia between different participants. It was selected by the Third Generation Project Partnership (3GPP) as a multimedia application protocol in 3G mobile networks. SIP is the protocol currently used for signaling ToIP calls.  The security of SIP is becoming more and more important. Authentication is the most important security service required by SIP. To ensure a secured communication, many SIP authentication protocols have been proposed. This work provides an overview of the proposed schemes based on elliptic curve cryptography. Those proposed schemes are analyzed in security consideration and the computational cost.

Abstract

Renewable Energy Act (RE Act) has been gazetted by the Malaysian Government in 2011 to encourage energy generation from renewable resources. Under Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, solar PV has gained popularity due to its high FiT rates. However, the FiT scheme for solar PV has expired in 2016 and been replaced by the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme. The objective of this research work is to technically and economically analyze the solar PV system for a residential house under NEM scheme. The methodology involves gathering solar energy resource information and daily residential load profile, sizing PV array together with grid-connected inverter and then lastly simulation of the design system by using PVsyst software. Based on the results obtained, the amount of energy generated is higher when the capacity of solar PV system is increased. While most of the energy generated is exported to the grid, only up to 25% of load demand is supplied by the solar PV system. From economic aspect, the residential house does not need to pay the electricity bill due to the self-consumed of energy generated and profit gained from excess energy exported to the grid. From the environmental aspect, 2,434 kWh energy generated from renewable resource annually and consumed by the residential load has replaced the fossil fuel based power from grid. This value is equivalent to almost 1.7 tons of CO2 avoidance to the environment.

Abstract

This paper discusses compression methods focused on data transmission over communication channels. The characteristics of different algorithms for different types of incoming data are analyzed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the speed of operation of each of the compression algorithms for different types of information and different compression parameters, on the basis of the obtained results to make recommendations for the application of compression methods in systems critical to the performance of the algorithm. Based on the results of the analysis, the methods of compression that can be used in communication channels are selected: LZW, LZH, Vitter and matrix. The practical research of the selected methods on different information flows (text, graphics, measurement data, combined data) was carried out, their comparative analysis was performed. Research has highlighted compression methods that give the most optimal results in each case. Comparative evaluation of algorithms for different parameters is made, the possibility of data compression implementation in systems running in real time is analyzed. Based on the results of the study, recommendations are made for the application of particular compression methods in specific conditions.

Abstract

Wireless sensor network (WSN) has attained wide adoption across various sectors and is considered to be key component of future real-time application such as BigData, Internet of things (IoT) etc. The modern application requires low latency and scalable real-time data access considering heterogeneous network. However, provisioning low latency real-time data access incurs energy overhead among sensor device. Clustering technique aided in providing scalability and minimizing energy consumption among sensor device. However, it incurs energy overhead among cluster head and sensor device closer to sink. To address, many optimization technique is been presented in recent time for optimal cluster selection. However, these technique are designed considering homogenous network. To address, this work presented low latency and energy efficient routing (LLEER) design for heterogeneous WSN. The LLEER adopts multi-objective function such asconnectivity, connection time, radio signal strength, coverage time, and network traffic for cluster head and hop node selection. Experiment are conducted to evaluate LLEER design shows significant performance improvement over state-of-art model in terms of network lifetime considering total node death, first node death, and loss of connectivity, communication overhead, and packet transmission latency. Proposed LLEER brings a good trade-off between energy efficiency, and latency requirement of future real-time application.

Abstract

The project aim is to design and develop a cloud connected smart LPG gas cylinder platform, acting as a safety device for detecting LPG gas drip at minimum levels to avoid any credible incidents. It is also capable of detect fire exists in the area and level of the gas in order to provide real time monitoring and alert over Cloud server. If an aberrant condition is detected, the device gives an alert to the smartphone app of the user and also sends an alert e-mail to other authorities. In addition to this upon detecting a gas leakage or a fire breakout, the device automatically takes safety precautionary measures, like gas valve closing, ventilation opening, fire sprinkler activation and home electrical power supply cut-off. The device connects to the internet via Wi-Fi and thus increasing the mobility of the platform within the premises of the house. A Wi-Fi capable ARM Cortex-M4 Launchpad is used to execute the system. This device proposes a complete, low-cost, powerful and accessible way of real-time tracking and distant control of gas leakages and preventive mechanisms in household and industrial areas.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the role of social networks in influencing purchasing decisions among consumers in Kuwait; the research used the quantitative methods, and analytical the technique to get the results, and the research developed a measure to study the relationship between the variables to the study and selection of a sample of consumers of (100). The results indicated that the social networking variables (exchange of information, evaluation of product) possess influence on purchasing decisions. Furthermore, the results indicate that majority of respondents do their digital scanning more often before intend to go to the store. The unexpected results came from the question “traditional advertising (TV, Newspaper, Magazine, Billboards) are more effective than the social networking; 23% agreed, 36% said no, and 41% said sometimes. In light of these findings, the study made a series of recommendations; the most important are; The executives and sales representatives need to understand the benefits offered by social networks, and understand the advantages and functions and tools of social communication, and knowing how to apply them effectively and efficiently, and then use the appropriate social networking tool.

Abstract

Lightning strikes represent a considerable cause of short interruptions in electrical overhead line networks. The over voltages caused by lightning cannot be avoided but their influence can be limited by appropriate over voltage protection. This paper presents analysis study on some factors affecting the back flashover of Egyptian 66 kV distribution lines using Alternative Transient Program (ATP). The study includes the modeling of 66 kV distribution lines, the effects of magnitude and the front and tail times of lightning wave on the back flashover voltages, the effects of the striking distance, and the using of counterpoise wires on the back flashover on the 66 kV line towers. In this paper the 66 kV lines sag is neglected and the soil ionization by the flow of the stroke current is considered.

Abstract

Monitoring fault current is very important in power system protection. Therefore, the impact of installing Distributed Generation (DG) on the fault current is investigated in this paper. Three types of fault currents which are single line-to-ground, double line-to-ground and three phase fault are analyzed at various fault locations. The optimal location of DG was identified heuristically using power system simulation program for planning, design and analysis of distribution system (PSS/Adept). The simulation was conducted by observing the power losses of the test system by installing DG at each load buses. Bus with minimum power loss was chosen as the optimal location of DG. In order to study the impact of DG to the fault current, various locations and sizes of DG were also selected. The simulations were conducted on IEEE 33-bus distribution test system and IEEE 69-bus distribution test system. The results showed that the impact of DG to the fault current is significant especially when fault occurs at busses near to DG location.

Abstract

This study presents the distributed energy source based current fed inverter has generated high voltage with less passive elements. The hybrid renewable energy generation such as solar and wind has used. The single stage power generation based switched inverter has combined characteristics of both impedance source inverter and switched boost inverter. In conventional voltage source inverter has less boost ability and high electromagnetic noise immunity to the modified current fed inverter circuit. The single diode photovoltaic model and wind-based energy generation have fed into current fed switched inverter for improving high gain and high power factor. The maximum power point tracking such as incremental conductance algorithm has fast-tracking of solar power and generates continuous power to the inverter circuit. 12V solar power and wind power is designed for dc power production, and the output of dc link capacitor is 118V using current fed switched inverter. The current fed switched inverter is designed and implemented in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
