Abstract

Gears are important component of the rotational power transmission system and are largely used in variable load and speed applications. The faults on the gear generate excessive vibration which leads to breakdown of the machine. Sensor based methods could diagnose gear faults but proved to be expensive and have limited applications due to heavy cost and need of access of gear box for sensor installation.  The motor stator current analysis has been reported to overcome the drawbacks of the sensor based fault detection methods. However, motor stator current analysis has a limited capability for reliable detection of small gear fault signatures typically for low load conditions. This paper presents an alternative non-invasive approach based on instantaneous power analysis of the motor to reliably diagnose gear faults for variable load applications. The theoretical and experimental results indicates that the instantaneous power analysis offers three fault related harmonics and amplitude variations on these harmonics could give the indication of health status of the gear.  The superiority of the proposed instantaneous power analysis technique has been confirmed through experiments performed on three operating points of the motor. The comparison of the amplitude sensitivity of the motor stator current and instantaneous power at three operating points has been performed to validate the superiority of the proposed technique.

Abstract

The morphologic and functional study of cardiovascular system is of vital importance because problems related to this system are one of the main causes of   mortality in the world. It is important to mention that the left ventricle (VI) is the most susceptible to suffer severe damage, in diseases, such as arterial hypertension, mellitus diabetes or arteriosclerosis. This article presents a new methodology directed to segmentation of left ventricular contours, in angiographic images by using Generalized Hough Transform (TGH). It is important to obtain the ventricular edge, because analyzing processes of systole and diastole end, it is possible to calculate parameters of the cardiac functionality as the end-diastolic volume, end systolic volume, ejection fraction, cardiac output, Hyperkinéticos, Hypokinéticos segments, and normal; in this work we focus only on the removal of the same.

Abstract

Cryptography guarantees security in communication through encryption. This paper proposed a modified Blowfish encryption that uses 128-bit block size and 128-bit key to comply with minimum requirements as an encryption standard. The modification retained the original structure for easy migration but utilized two S-boxes to save memory. A derivation was added to prevent symmetry.  The algorithm’s performance was evaluated using time, and avalanche. Upon testing, the modified blowfish is slower with key, encryption, and decryption average of 26.99ms, 1651.83ms, and 2765.04ms compared to blowfish with 21.65ms, 1297.76ms and 2176.59ms due to block size difference. Applying 128-bit block size increases security by decreasing the chances of having duplicate blocks that may leak information. The modified Blowfish is faster compared to Twofish with an encryption and decryption average time of 2418.08ms and 4002.70ms. The added derivation improved the avalanche of the modified blowfish.  Blowfish achieved 47.14% while modified Blowfish attained 52.86%.

Abstract

On some studies a conjugate parameter plays an important role for the conjugate gradient methods. In this paper, a variant of hybrid is provided in the search direction based on the convex combination. This search direction ensures that the descent condition holds. The global convergence of the variant of hybrid is also obtained. Our strong evidence is a numerical analysis showing that the proposed variant of hybrid method is efficient than the Hestenes and Stiefel method.

Abstract

Due to the vast increase in global industrial output, rural to urban drift and the over-utilization of land and sea resources, the quality of water available to people has deteriorated greatly. Before the sensor based approach to water quality monitoring, water quality was tested by collecting the samples of water and experimentally analyzing it in the laboratories. However, in today, with time being a scarce resource, the traditional method of water quality testing is not efficient anymore. To tackle this issue, several electronic (microcontroller and sensor based) water quality monitoring systems were developed in the past decade. However, an in depth study of this current water quality testing technology shows that there are some limitations that should be taken into consideration. Therefore, an automatic, remote, and low cost water quality monitoring system has been developed. This system consists of a core microcontroller, multiple sensors, GSM module, LCD display screen, and an alarm subsystem. The quality of water is read from the physical world through the water quality testing sensors and sent to the microcontroller. The data is then analyzed by the microcontroller and the result is displayed on the LCD screen on the device. At the same time, another copy of the sensor readings is sent remotely to the user’s mobile phone in the form of SMS. If an abnormal water quality parameter is detected by any sensor, the alarm system will turn on the respective red LED for that parameter and the buzzer will give warning sound. At the same time, the abnormality of the water parameter is reported to the user through SMS. The system is aimed to be used for wide applications and by all categories of users. It can facilitate the process of water quality monitoring autonomously and with low cost; to help people improve their quality of drinking water, household water supplies and aquaculture farms, especially in rural areas where residents do not have access to standardized water supply and suffer from different diseases caused by contaminated water.

Abstract

This paper presents the study of microwave absorption single layer microwave absorber based on rice husk ash (RHA) with additional carbon nanotubes (CNTs) filler loading into the composites. The relative permittivity of RHA and CNTs composites (RHA/CNTs) were measured by using Agilent high temperature probe and 85070E software. The CST-MWS software is used to design and evaluate the microwave absorption of RHA and RHA/CNTs with metal backed plate. The microwave absorption of simulated and measured results is compared. The RHA microwave absorber only absorbed maximum, -8 dB at 10.8 GHz of the incident electromagnetic radiation and the RHA/CNTs absorbed less than -15 dB with wider bandwidth over 10.8 GHz to 12.8 GHz compare with RHA composites single layer microwave absorber. The results indicated that the RHA/CNTs composites have enhanced the microwave absorption of RHA composites.

Abstract

In this work an experimental demonstration is proposed to implement the synchronous optical code division multiple access system using two dimensional wavelength hopping and time spreading optical prime code is presented. An optical CDMA system is configured on latest version of optisystem by optiwave for the 20 users (Prime Number = 5) connected in a network operating at a bit rate 10 Gbps each. Tunability is achieved by using a MATLAB based delay selector which serves as the source of control signal for optical delay lines. The encoded optical signal of each user has been assigned a particular mode. The resulting optical signal is then transmitted over parabolic index multimode optical fiber. The received signal can successfully be retrieved at the decoder, when the encoder and decoder are configured for the same user. The performance of Optical CDMA system is evaluated in terms of the autocorrelation and cross correlation function, BER, Q factor, eye diagram and compared with 1D code for a given prime number.

Abstract

This paper presents a solution for remote monitoring and sensing of different agricultural parameters that effect the plant growth and productivity. Hardware descriptive language has been used for the implementation of proposed topology on Field Programmable Gate Arrays. The hardware used for this purpose is an Altera board. The simulated results take into consideration the environmental factors such as the humidity, soil moisture content and the temperature. The proposed system continuously monitors the environmental changes for any updates. The system also controls a water motor that is turned on as the system senses the reduction in moisture content. The system implementation on hard wave level show promising results and have been discussed in detailed.

Abstract

In this paper we focus on the overall overview of the mathematical modelling of the DJI F450 UAV quadcopter, the hardware and software system integration based on PID control system for the attitude feedback. The parameter specification of the DJI F450 is fed into the mathematical model and implement a basic PID for the system. Future research using the DJI F450 model can benefit from this observation by implementing the modelling and tune in their own variable that varies, such as the overall of their weight. The data of PID control system simulation using the quadcopter frame model type DJI F450 parameter. The mathematical model for the quadcopter modelled DJI F450 is developed using Newton-Euler method. Altitude data for the control system is obtain from the analysis data of the Simulink simulation. The simulation is done using the Simulink toolbox inside the MATLAB software. From this paper, we can more understand the step involves in making a full control system of a quadcopter. The mathematical model for other type of quadcopter model can be implemented using the steps with their own parameter and achieve fast development.

Abstract

Classification of breast cancer histopathological images plays a significant role in computer-aided diagnosis system. Features matrix was extracted in order to classify those images and they may contain outlier values adversely that affect the classification performance. Smoothing of features matrix has been proved to be an effective way to improve the classification result via eliminating of outlier values. In this paper, an adaptive penalized logistic regression is proposed, with the aim of smoothing features and provides high classification accuracy of histopathological images, by combining the penalized logistic regression with the smoothed features matrix. Experimental results based on a publicly recent breast cancer histopathological image datasets show that the proposed method significantly outperforms penalized logistic regression in terms of classification accuracy and area under the curve. Thus, the proposed method can be useful for histopathological images classification and other classification of diseases types using DNA gene expression data in the real clinical practice.
