Abstract

The development of photovoltaic thermal (PVT) system is a very promising area of research. PVT systems using in various applications, such as solar drying, solar cooling, water heating, desalination, and pool heating. With the recognition of the potentials and contributions of PV system, considerable research has been conducted to attain the most advancement which may produce reliable and sustainable PVT system. The cooling system’s design refers to the absorber design which mostly focuses on water and air-based PVT systems. An air-based system has been developed through different absorber configurations, air flow modes and single- or double-pass design. Hence, a summarization on various research and development of air-based PVT system will be presented.

Abstract

To compose the wide visual angle and high resolution image from the sequence of images which have overlapping region in the same scene quickly and correctly, an improved SIFT algorithm which is based on D2oG interest point detector was proposed. It extracted the image feature points and generated corresponding feature descriptors by improved SIFT algorithm. Then, using the random consistency (RANSAC) algorithm purified feature point matching pairs and calculating the transformation matrix H. Last, complete the seamless mosaic of images by using the image fusion algorithm of slipping into and out. It respectively process the images which had the four typical transformations with the traditional SIFT and the proposed method. The result indicated that the number of feature pairs is fewer than SIFT algorithm and the mosaic time is shorter, and then the matching efficiency is higher than the later. This proposed method reduces the complexity of operation and improves real-time of image mosaic simultaneously.

Abstract

Unified power flow controllers (UPFCs) are FACTS devices which can fulfil multiple power-flow control objectives, such as the need for reactive shunt compensation, phase shifting and series compensation. However, as they are quite expensive, they are not widely used. In this paper, the potential of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) mode of operation using a PHEV charging station to provide a low-cost solution to the design of a virtual UPFC is explained. A third-order dynamic battery model is used to represent the PHEV, and the simulations carried out demonstrate that a PHEV has the potential to work as a virtual UPFC to improve power quality. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i8.1673

Abstract

According to the control requirements of the leaves’ position precision in the multi-leaf collimator, the structure and working principle of the multi-leaf collimator in the conformal radiation therapy apparatus are described. The motor that drives the leaf of the MLC is taken as the control object. The module of the motor has been established. Then the PSO algorithm is used for the parameter optimization of PID controller that outputs the given expectation to the motor, in order to ensure the position accuracy of the MLC leaves. The experimental results indicate that this algorithm can meet the needs of the control precision of the leaves’ position of the multi-leaf collimator, and each control index is obviously superior to the traditional method for PID control. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i10.2759

Abstract

e-Health remote monitoring systems have bloomed rapidly with a myriad of applications. This paper discusses a design of a remote monitoring device for biomedical field. Four biomedical sensors which are electrocardiography (ECG), airflow, galvanic skin response and temperature with two boards which are the e-Health Shield Board V2.0 and Arduino Uno Board are used. The results show satisfactory output for each experiment using two test subjects. The device able to achieve high accuracy where percentage of temperature difference is less than 1% compared to the commercial devices with an average power consumption of each working sensor on board is ≤9W.

Abstract

In this paper is all about constructing a device called “One-WORD” that aims to solve this problem. One-word is an offline password keeper aimed at saving and encrypting the passwords in a more secure manner. The main device contains the encrypted passwords while a secure NFC smartcard and a personal pin-code allows the decryption. Even if an attacker is able to get hold the smartcard, or the device it is completely useless without the personal code.

Abstract

Parallel programming has been implemented in many areas to solve various computational problem with the aim, to improve the performance and scalability of the software application. There are a few parallel programming models commonly used, namely, threads, and message passing (distributed) models. Furthermore, various APIs have been proposed to implement these models based on two popular languages, notably, C/C++ and Java. A few studies have been done to compare the performance of parallel programming models, specifically, pure versus hybrid model. However, most of existing comparisons targeted on MPI/OpenMP based on C/C++ language. In this paper, our aim is to explore the performance comparison between threads, message passing and hybrid model in Java, specifically using Java multithreading and MPJ Express. For this reason, we have chosen a problem called word count occurrence which is significant in Natural Language Processing and use it to design and implement the parallel programs. We then present their performance and discuss the results.

Abstract

This paper presents an investigation of five-Level Cascaded H – bridge (CHB) Inverter as Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) in Power System (PS) for compensation of reactive power and harmonics. The advantages of CHB inverter are low harmonic distortion, reduced number of switches and suppression of switching losses. The DSTATCOM helps to improve the power factor and eliminate the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) drawn from a Non-Liner Diode Rectifier Load (NLDRL). The D-Q reference frame theory is used to generate the reference compensating currents for DSTATCOM while Proportional and Integral (PI) control is used for capacitor dc voltage regulation. A CHB Inverter is considered for shunt compensation of a 11 kV distribution system. Finally a level shifted PWM (LSPWM) and phase shifted PWM (PSPWM) techniques are adopted to investigate the performance of CHB Inverter. The results are obtained through Mat lab / Simulink software package.

Abstract

Objective In this paper, we have done Fisher discriminant analysis to Electroencephalogram (EEG) data of experiment objects which are recorded impersonally, come up with a relatively accurate method used in feature extraction and classification decisions. The present study is the groundwork analysis for other analysis in EEG study. Methods In accordance with the strength of  wave, the head electrodes are divided into four species. In use of part of 21 electrodes EEG data of 63 people, we have done Fisher discriminant analysis to EEG data of six objects. EEG data processing and statistic analysis adopted independently designed EEG analysis toolbox and the program of correlation analysis. Results In use of part of EEG data of 63 people, we have done Fisher discriminant analysis, the electrode classification accuracy rates is 82.3%. Conclusions Fisher discriminant has higher prediction accuracy, EEG features (mainly  wave) extract more accurate. Fisher discriminant would be better applied to the feature extraction and classification decisions of EEG data. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i5.2464

Abstract

This paper introduces a new cryptographic hash function that follows sponge construction. Paper begins with outlining the structure of the construction. Next part describes the functionality of Titanium and cipher used. A competition between block cipher and stream cipher is presented and showed the reason of using block cipher rather than stream cipher. Speed performance is calculated and analyzed using state-of-art CPUs.
