Abstract

This research was about facilitating students’ pronunciations on plosive consonant sounds through Sephonics software. It was done at 3rd semester students of ELT Department of Walisongo State Institute for Islamic Studies in the academic year of 2011/2012. The background of this research was the difficulty in learning pronunciation. This research was aimed to responding the following questions; (1) How was the implementation of using sephonics software for teaching pronunciation (plosive consonant sounds) at third semester students of ELT Department, State Islamic Institute of Walisongo, Semarang? (2) Was there any improvement of students’ pronunciation of plosive consonant sounds after being taught using sephonics software? The participant of this research was the 3rd semester students of ELT Department of Education Faculty, Walisongo State Institute for Islamic Studies, Semarang that consisted of 28 students. It was a classroom action research that had two cycles. They were pre-cycle, cycle 1, and cycle 2. The use of sephonics software was used in cycle 1 and cycle 2. The methods of data collection were test and observation in all cycles. The test form was reading aloud that asked students to pronounce some words that contained plosive consonant sounds. Then, the result of test scores was analyzed by using mean to determine whether there was an improvement in each cycle. This study showed that: (1) the first thing that the teacher needed to do to use this software as a teaching aid was that he or she must conduct the class in a language laboratory. If it was not possible, the teacher could conduct the class in a regular classroom by providing several computers or laptops. Then, the students must be grouped based on the number of the computers. The second thing was that this was CALL learning based; the teacher might explain how to use the software in order that the students could practice by themselves outside of class schedule. (2) After collecting data, the result was found that the average (mean) of pre cycle test was 69. Then, it had very significant improvement in cycle 1 and cycle 2. It became 98.7 from cycle 1 test and 99.6 from cycle 2 test. It meant that the research was successful to improve the students’ pronunciation abilities. In conclusion, Sephonics software was successful to facilitate students’ pronunciations on plosive consonant sounds.

Abstract

The phenomenon of cancel culture in the digital age has become increasingly prominent, serving as a form of social expression used by netizens to express their disapproval of the actions of public figures. This study aims to uncover netizens' perceptions of Abidzar Al-Ghifari's image following the occurrence of cancel culture through social media. Using a phenomenological approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with 15 active netizens on Instagram and Twitter who had previously expressed opinions about Abidzar. The findings indicate that cancel culture is understood as a form of social control, an expression of dissatisfaction, and can also have psychological impacts on both the targeted individual and the netizens themselves. This study offers new insights into how public image is constructed, criticized, and dismantled within the context of digital communication.

Abstract

Trademark disputes often arise despite existing laws, due to similarities that lead to bad faith registration. This act exploits a trademark's fame, affecting its economic value and potentially deceiving consumers. The first-to-register principle determines the winner of trademark disputes, with legal consequences including rejection, transfer, or cancellation of the disputed trademark. A court case illustrates this, where the plaintiff was initially found guilty, but upon appeal, it was discovered that their trademark was registered earlier with valid documents, including an Apostille certificate. The Supreme Court annulled the previous decision, upholding the plaintiff's trademark rights and canceling the defendant's trademark. This study used a juridical normative research method, analyzing primary legal materials and laws. The results showed that the defendant acted in bad faith by creating a similar trademark identity. An information gap regarding well-known trademarks and Apostille certification contributed to the bad faith utilization. This study aims to inform policy development in trademark legislation, highlighting the need for clearer regulations to prevent similar disputes. By understanding the causes of trademark disputes, policymakers can create more effective laws to protect trademark rights and promote fair competition. Ultimately, this study contributes to the ongoing effort to refine trademark laws and regulations.

Abstract

Land issues and conflicts are increasingly becoming a serious concern in various regions in Indonesia. As a country with a large population and limited land, land has a very important value for various parties, including individuals, groups, governments, and companies. One problem that often arises is the issuance of Land Ownership Certificates (SHM) that are carried out illegally or contrary to applicable legal provisions. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the perpetrators are held accountable for unlawful acts related to land ownership or control and what legal considerations are used by judges in deciding cases of unlawful acts related to land disputes in Civil Lawsuit Decision Number 1/Pdt.G/2020/PN Pbm. The research method used is normative juridical. The results of the study are that land ownership disputes often give rise to complex legal issues and can give rise to civil, criminal, or administrative liability, depending on the form of violation and its legal consequences. In civil law, the perpetrator of an unlawful act is obliged to compensate for the losses incurred, while in the criminal realm, violations such as land grabbing, document falsification, and fraud can be subject to criminal sanctions in accordance with the Criminal Code (KUHP). Administrative actions, such as the cancellation of certificates by the National Land Agency (BPN), can also be taken. In a land dispute decision in Prabumulih City, the Court rejected all of Defendant III's exceptions and granted part of the Plaintiff's lawsuit. The panel of judges stated that the 960 m² of land legally belonged to the Plaintiff, and Defendant I's actions in selling the land to Defendant II and Defendant III's issuance of a Certificate of Ownership without the Plaintiff's consent constituted an unlawful act. Consequently, the sale and purchase agreement and certificate were declared invalid and not legally binding. Defendants I and II were sentenced to pay Rp. 50,000 per day in damages jointly and severally if they failed to implement the decision, and were required to pay court costs of Rp. 2,621,000. The Plaintiff's lawsuit other than and beyond that was rejected.
