Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of this research are to find out the influence of self-awareness towards the speaking ability of tenth- grade students and to find out the student’s ability in speaking English. The method of this research was quantitative research with a correlation design. The population of this research was the tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Ampana Tete. The total number of the students was 78 students. There were two classes, involved one class consisted of 30 students. The sample was selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection was began with the speaking test. Then, the students were asked to answer a questionnaire. After obtaining the data, the researcher analyzed the data using a Pearson Product Moment correlation method that examined the correlation between the two variables. The findings in this research show from 30 respondents there are; 80% of the students had high Self- awareness, and 17% of the students had low Self-awareness. The result of the mean score of the speaking student’s score is 43. It means that students had a poor ability to speak English. The result of the correlation between Self-awareness and speaking ability is very low, it means that there is almost no influence between self-awareness and speaking ability of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Ampana Tete.

Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of this research is to find out the communication strategies used by teacher in teaching Englishat SMAN 2 Poso. This research is a qualitative research that uses observation, interview and documentation to collectdata. The object of this research is one English teacher at this school that teaches English in 3 different classes. Thefindings show that the communication strategies used in teaching English is one-way communication and two-waycommunication, while the dominant one is two-way communication.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this study is to find out students' coping strategies in dealing with academic stress at Sintuwu Maroso University Poso. This type of research uses a quantitative survey method through Google Forms. The subjects of this study is active students in 2024, the number of the students is 47. The data is collected by distributing questionnaire links to each English Teacher in English Study Program. The results of this study indicate that on the subscale Self Distraction, the subjects are used to doing other activities to switch their minds from the problem they have, such as watching TV, sleeping, reading, or shopping (82.71%). On the subscale Religion, most subjects (80,85%) often find comfort in their religion by praying or meditating. Of course, the subjects are Indonesian, so Indonesians highly uphold religious values. On the subscale Acceptance, the subjects already accept and try to live with reality (80,59%). For the Active Coping (77,93%), shows that the subjects take action and try to focus on their efforts and make the situation better. For the Positive reframing (75,53%), the subjects try positive thinking when facing the situation. For the Planning (74,47%), when dealing with a situation, the subjects think hard about what to do next and make a strategy to face the situation they are in. Using Instrumental Support (71,01%), the subjects seek help or advice from others to improve the situation. The 7 subscales explained above show that six subscales in the adaptive category were Religion, Acceptance, Active Coping, Positive Reframing, Planning, and Using Instrumental Support. Only one subscale, self-distraction, is in the maladaptive category.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to investigate the teaching strategies employed by English teachers at SMPN 2 Mori Atas. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the teacher used three primary teaching strategies: direct instruction, small group work, and role play. Among these, direct instruction was the most frequently implemented. The study highlights the importance of selecting strategies that are both engaging and suited to students’ needs to enhance learning outcomes. These results contribute to a better understanding of how strategic teaching practices influence English language instruction at the junior high school level.
