Abstract

One of the challengethat facing teenagers (13-16 years old) everyday is drugs abuse, especially tobacco, alcohol and marijuana. At this age, teenagers are expected to find their self-identity and to make the right decision in life's challenge including the decision not to use drugs. Life skills training program can be used as intervention to deal with life's challenge and to say no to drugs. The following research involve 23 students boys and girls 13-16 years old in regular state middle school (SMPN X) in East Jakarta. The 23 participants were chosen from initial 375 students. In practice, only 23 students who had below average scores participate in life skills training program. The instrument used in this research is Life Skills questionnaire. Analysis method used in this research is Independent sample t-test and tested using pre-test post-test. The results were as following: (a)life skills intervention program could increase understanding and knowledge for teenagers towards life skills as high as 13.33%; (b) life skills intervention program is considered to be succesfull in increasing teenagers tendency to say no to the abuse of tobacco, alcohol and marijuana as high as 12.63%.Keywords: adolescence, life-skills, tobacco, alcohol, mariyuana

Abstract

Achievement motivation is tendency to struggle for success and for determine how to success, in this case how to success in academic activity especially achievement in mathematic. Teaching style is strategic ways for teacher to give a lesson to students and there will be an interaction between teacher and student. The goal of this research is to prove that student perception on teaching style influence achievement motivation and know what the best teaching style that able to motivate student to achieve in mathematic lesson. Data amount was 289 subjects with age between 15-19 years old. Analyzed with Two-Way ANOVA showed that there was a difference between achievement motivation based on teaching styles with demonstrator teaching style was the best style to make students had tendecy to more achieve in mathematic lesson.Keywords: teaching style, achievement motivation, adolescene

Abstract

The number of complaints and the phenomenon of Mathematics NationalExamination indicated a lack of belief for facing it. Belief is needed to face acertain task is known as self-efficacy (Bandura, 1997). There are many sources that can affect someone’s self-efficacy, namely internal and external sources. For having high self-efficacy through the National Examination, especially in mathematic as Bandura’s theory (1997), students do not only need belief that comes from their abilities or experiences (internal sources), but also from the presences and roles that are received by the mathematic teachers, parents, friends, and others (external sources). This study was aimed to assess whether there is a relationship between student’s perceptions of teacher’s interpersonal behavior with their self-efficacy through the Mathematics National Examination. This research used quantitative method, involved 109 students of ninth grade in Junior High School which is located in West Jakarta. By using a correlation test, it was found there was a relationship between students’ self-efficacy in mathematic with students’ perceptions of teacher’s interpersonal behavior in proximity (cooperation-opposition), but did not reveal any relationship with students’ perceptions of teacher’s interpersonal in influence (dominance-submission). Keywords: perception, teacher’s interpersonal behavior, self-efficacy, mathematics

Abstract

One of the confusions that mostly high-school students encounter related with the academic aspect is the issue of selecting a course. The course which they undertake when they are in high-school is frequently based upon the course which they will later undergo in the university. Therefore, the understanding of aptitude and ability test is necessary to help students answer their confusion of the course in the university level they will take. The result of the aptitude and ability test of the high-school student inthis research shows that she has strong points in several fields. The student herself has made a number of course options which fit her aptitude and ability. Hence, the next step that she carries out is making some alteration to other factors such as the financial condition of the parents and the prediction of work availability in the future. Eventually, her mathematical skills in accordance with the other factors have led her to prioritize the economic accounting as the course she will take in the university.Keywords: high-school student, course, aptitude and ability test

Abstract

This research was based on Bandura’s system of triadic reciprocal causation in social cognitive concept. The research was designed to test the hypothesis that the usage of different type of peer feedback (as an enviroment factor) has a different effect in increasing students’ self-evaluation (as a behavioural factor) and selfefficacy (as a personal factor) in writing skills learning situation. The research design was pre-test post-test control group design. Sixty six subjects participated in three equal classes divided into two groups. First group consisted of two experimental classes which stood for two types of feedback (formated and unformated) and one control group with placebo. The results showed that there was a significant effect of peer feedback type (formated and unformated) to increase student self-evaluation and self-efficacy in writing skills. Differences in self-evaluation scores F(2.63) = 37.506, (p <0.05), and self-efficacy F(2.63) =7.272, (p < 0.05). Skills writing students in the experimental group was higher than in the control group. The results also showed differences in the usage of the type of feedback and free peer to increased self-evaluation unformated, however there was no difference in the improvement of self-efficacy students.Keywords: peer feedback, students’ self-evaluation, self-efficacy in writing skills learning context
