Abstract

The Concept of Atonement has been an old concept in the biblical world. The Old Testament speaks of it using mainly the Hebrew word כפר (kphr), with its attendant various implications. This concept wasn’t alien in the Greco-Roman world which formed part of the New Testament background. The New Testament writers pushed the concept of atonement beyond the level of animal sacrifice in the Old Testament, and the gods allowing themselves to be reconciled to sinful humanity in the Greco-Roman religious context, to the point of Jesus Christ being viewed as the Lamb of God, i.e. both the sacrificial lamb and the priest that offers the sacrifice. In this way, Christ is presented both as the offering and the offeror. The New Testament uses two main Greek words καταλλαγή/ (katallage) and ἱλασμός (hilasmos) in driving home this important concept which stems from God’s love towards the creation and results in forgiveness, restoration of estranged relationship, maintenance of divine justice and expression of divine mercy. The work used content analysis method of research and comparative theory in the study of religion in dealing with the subject of atonement in the Old Testament, Greco-Roman Context and the New Testament. Significantly, the work draws a thread of thought from Old Testament through Greco-Roman thought on atonement to that of the New Testament. It therefore also serves a point of comparative religious study of this thought among these three world views.

Abstract

Attitudes Polya Model Impact on Algorithm Learning: A Case Study Abstract: Excellent results are important for matriculation students and provide better opportunities in the selection of fields to further their studies to the Degree level. However, poor mastery of problem-solving skills in programming makes it difficult for students to get good results. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the effect of using the Polya problem-solving model in the learning of programming algorithms among matriculation students. The research methodology used is a qualitative quantitative experimental control group experiment not equivalent to pre-test and post-test. The experiment was conducted for seven weeks and the research instruments used were pre-test and post-test consisting of six subjective questions. The results of the t-test showed that there was a significant mean difference between the post-treatment achievements of the treatment group compared to the achievement of the control group. This shows the Polya Model adaptation method used in learning programming algorithms to improve student achievement performance. The implications of this study show that the adaptation of the Polya Model is suitable for use in the process of learning and teaching algorithms, especially in solving programming problems. Abstract

The novel COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged the entire world and its far reaching impacts have been felt across different regions and sectors world-over. Similarly, the Zimbabwean public sector has been equally affected by this pandemic. Using a qualitative methodology the research interrogates the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and proffers ways to deal with its impacts on the Zimbabwean public sector. Data was extensively collected from documentary sources such as books, journals, government publications etc. The study established that the Zimbabwean Health Sector (ZHS) is completely overwhelmed by the pandemic, that there is a decrease in revenue collection, poor social accountability, and corruption and that frontline employees and those working in environments that are exposed to the virus are psychologically affected. The research recommends that the government should capacitate the ZHS, revitalise industries and harnessing small to medium enterprises, embrace open Information Technologies (I.T) in parliamentary activities, strengthen the Watchdog institutions and create sustainable conducive working conditions for all.
