Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve students’ vocabulary by using JOOX application. In the Pre-Test result, the students who got score ≥ 13 were 21.88%, otherwise 79.12% were under achievement students. Then, the students who got score ≥ 13 in Post-Test 1 were 81.25% while 19.75% student got score < 13. Furthermore, in Post-Test 2 result all the students (100%) got score ≥ 13. The use of the JOOX application media in teaching and learning process can improve the students’ activity in the classroom, the students’ activities in cycle 1 were categorize into fair category. The students’ activities was 66% (get score 33 of the 50 maximal score). Then, in cycle 2 it could be seen that the students’ activities were categorize into good category. The students’ activities was 80% (get score 40 of the 50 maximal score). It is indicated that the students’ vocabulary mastery could improve significantly after the treatment applied in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

One of the components in English that is very important in understanding when someone is communicating each other is vocabulary. The vocabulary is used to express the ideas. This research was aimed to find out the influence of using word search ultimate game in learning English for student's vocabulary mastery in the 5th of Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Metro. The research was conducted by quantitative methods. The population of the research consisted of 235 students. The research divided into two groups, those are 24 students as the experimental group and 24 students as the control group, the total of the sample consist of 48 students. The research used cluster random sampling technique and an analysis by using t-test formula. The instruments of this research were pre-test and post-test. The result of analysis was indicated that the value of t obtained (6.961) was higher than that of t table (2.06) at the significance level 0.05 and the significance (0.000) was lower than 0.05). It means that there was significant influence toward student’s vocabulary mastery using word search ultimate game of the fifth grade students of Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Metro.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to give some positive contribution to the future researcher especially who want to analyzed about translation procedure preposition and the research is expected to be a useful for the student especially those who want to analyze about translation procedure and preposition. This study uses qualitative data analysis. Qualitative research can be done through library and field research, this study applies library research. This method s applied by reading and studying some books concerning with the topic of the problem. The data of this study were analyzed by using two steps, first describing the translation procedure of adverbial preposition the researcher give the example of the translation procedure of adverbial preposition. The researcher write the translated version below the original one in form of sentences and put marks by underlying both the translated prepositions and the original ones. Second, finding out and analyzing the untranslated the translation procedure of adverbial preposition. The researcher found in the Harry Potter and The Cursed Child’s book that were a lot of translation procedure and the highest percentage found that word for word translation was the highest percentage with 39, 39% and literal translation was the lowest percentage with 21, 21%

Abstract

This research is aimed at identifying the second-year university students’ perspective on the problems encountered in listening comprehension particularly dealing with listening task, effect of the problem and context. The design employed in this research belongs to descriptive research. 50 second-year university students were selected voluntarily. The research result showed problematic uses in which EFL learners have difficulties understanding listening text while the native speakers with varied and non-familiar accents. Besides, they were not able to understand meanings which are not pronounced clearly.

Abstract

This research is intended to find out the factors influencing the university students’ motivation in learning English speaking skill, and the efforts carried out to motivate the university students to speak English. The design employed in this research report belongs to descriptive research. The result of research finding concerning with some factors influencing the university students’ motivation in learning English speaking skill shows that students’ age gender has the highest percentage (97%), frequency of attendance and degree of students’ interest to oral expression (89%) and Students’ gender distribution(81%), whereas particularly dealing with students’ opinions about the most used teaching strategies (‘using materials (videos and music)’ and ‘group/pair work’) has the lowest percentage (21%). Meanwhile the result of research finding concerning with the strategies carried out to motivate the university students to speak English, degree of teaching strategies’ use has the highest percentage (99.9%).
