Abstract

By far the information about Indian Ocean big eye tuna biology and fisheries especially in Indonesia is still verylimited. This paper is an attempt to give some information of the biological observations, especially sex ratio of bigeye tuna(BET) in Indian Ocean. Surveillance was conducted by scientific observers on March–April, 2010 following twocommercial tuna longline vessels based in Port of Benoa. Total 159 of BET managed to be hauled and observed. The result showed that sex ratio of male and female BET was 1:1.12 and study indicated small size (60–100cm) and large size (140–160 cm) of BET comprise of male more than female; while middle size (100–140 cm)dominated by female rather than male. In addition most BET caught were already reached their sexual maturity.

Abstract

The existence of herpetofauna at the Alas Purwo National Park has been neglected. It has been shown bythe lack of diversity data of herpetofauna in the National Park. This research was aimed to inventory and identifyof herpetofauna at Section I of the Alas Purwo National Park Management (SPTN I) for determination of thediversity level (H’). Evenness Index (E), and Simpson Domination Value (D) were used in this research Observationfound 4 families of amphibian with 1.486 samples and 7 families of reptile with 90 samples. SPTN I AlasPurwo National Park was considered as a medium level of diversity with 1.93 of H value. The research suggeststhat SPTN I belongs to a middle diversity level, middle evenness index, and relatively low domination value.

Abstract

Garcinia tetranda Pierre (Clusiaceae) was reported as source of flavonoid which has various bioactivities forhealth. Pure compound has been isolated by repeat chromatography techniques (Vacuum Column Chromatography, preparative TLC and TLC). UV, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic data of isolated compound (isolate)compared with the compound which was found before, and showed same as biflavonoid GB-1 data. Antibacterialassay against Salmonella typhi showed lower activity than chloramphenicol. Biflavonoid GB-1 compound foundin this study is different to the previous study, which all of compounds were classified as xanthones. Therefore, result of this study improves compound variability of Garcinia tetranda. However GB-1 is not potentially used asGram-negative antibacterial agent, especially against Salmonella typhi.

Abstract

Motorcycle population growth more than 12,1% a year in Bali involved in increasing number of motorcycleaccident. To minimized accident rate at road that had high percentage of motorcycle like Sunset Road and 4/2Dtype of geometric a motorcycle lane (MCL) can be applied. Feasibility of MCL Application must fulfil criteriaaccident rate, motorcycle proportion, operational speed, saturation degree (V/C) at peak-hour volume (PHV) andminimum road width. Data of traffic volume and motorcycle speed were collected for 8 hours and analyze withMCL criteria (Idris, 2008) and minimum width road. Sunset Road assumed had motorcycle accident rate 55,6%,motorcycle proportion (pcu) 42% or 500 pcu/hour, operational speed 62 km/hour, V/C= 0,45 and road width 6meters. Compared with the criteria, Sunset Road didn’t fulfilled motorcycle proportion criteria <1.200 pcu/hour,operational speed >44,17 km/hour, V/C <65 and road width <7,5 m, therefore MCL can’t be applied in SunsetRoad.
