Abstract

Lending is the primary business of retail banking and non-performing loans (NPLs) have been the focus of attention in recent years. In the wake of the 2008–2010 financial crisis, non-performing loans (NPLs) had increased everywhere, but in some countries they had reached unprecedented heights. Several banks have experienced a particularly challenging period over recent years and the Great Financial Crisis has highlighted the weakness of the banking system and the need to further investigate banks’ asset quality and transparency from both a regulatory and an accounting perspective, which pressure by different institutions for a more accurate assessment of loan portfolios led to the general need for higher provisioning in a period characterised by extremely low interest rates and low bank profitability. The objective of this research is to determine the factors associated with non-performing loans. We presented a literature study using systematic literature review of relevant publications and as a result of this process, we included 21 articles and then examined the bibliographical references to check the validity of the inquiry and to avoid any potential omissions. We identified several variables that affect NPLs and those that are influenced by NPLs. We found no variables that associate with policies, and strongly suggest research for variables that associate with policies.

Abstract

The paper attempts to examine the experience of the Nepalese investors at the secondary market. The paper explored the investment decisions process of the Nepalese investors. The paper has adopted the grounded theory to generate the theory from the data collected from the semi-structured interview from the stock market investors having an academic background in management. The findings revealed that the investors are eager to invest in the stock market and go for a better experience from their trading at the NEPSE floor. The study exposed a mixed opinion in context to the understanding of the macroeconomic aspects and their influence on investment decisions. The investors forwarded that there is no relation between their investment decision-making process and the macroeconomic factors, while some of the investors stated that they see a connection of the economy with the stock market directly or indirectly. The study came out that the major concern of the Nepalese investors is a fundamental aspect of the listed companies while selecting for an investment. At the same time, investors stated that they go for technical analysis or follow the market trend for the short-term trading at NEPSE floor. The investors are seen at one point that the unstable political situation and insider trading have been major challenges, in context to the Nepalese stock market. Finally, the excessive flow of information related to the listed companies either with some validity or not, makes an investor’s investment decisions go wrong.

Abstract

In today’s post-modern era, the banking industry is becoming a digital rather than a physical system. Digital banking has been synonymous with the fourth industrial revolution making a notable impact on the African continent. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to empirically investigate consumer attitudes towards mobile banking applications in South Africa. A positivist paradigm underpinned the study, and a descriptive design was employed. To test the proposed hypotheses a unique conceptual model was developed. Non-probability sampling was adopted in selecting appropriate participants. A total of data was collected from 325 willing participants through an survey. In terms of analysis, SPSS n and AMOS were utilised to generate descriptive statistics and hypotheses testing. The results established that attitudes towards mobile banking applications and actual use of mobile banking applications was the strongest relationship. The empirical evidence presented in this study adds value to the existing research on mobile-banking within the 4th industrial revolution, particularly in South Africa, a largely under-researched area.

Abstract

The developed financial sector can significantly provide financial services to developing economies by the motive as well as best opportunity of using new advanced technology; it may help them to maintain clean environment with help of environmentally friendly production, thus providing with a higher level of the global environmental quality and further it will boost sustainable development of economies (J. Frankel & Rose, 2002). Financial development would increase R&D investment as to speed up growth, thereby influencing the environmental quality (J. A. Frankel & Romer, 1999). The objective of this research is to determine the effect of R&D expenditure on CO2 emissions in Austria in 1996-2006. We presented a quantitative study using simple linear regression to analyze the data and as a result of this process, we found that R&D expenditure has significant effect to CO2 emissions in Austria in 1996-2006. The fact that R&D influence on CO2 emissions can be positive, negative and insignificant must be taken into account when designing environmental policies and various programs, strategies and initiatives to encourage and fund R&D activities, in the context of environmental protection, government efforts should be strictly focused on the promotion and support of R&D programs directly aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and increasing the use thereof (Petrović & Lobanov, 2020).

Abstract

The existence of competition requires companies to make various efforts to maintain the existence of the company and increase company value. The company value is indicated by the company's stock price. The purpose of this research is to prove empirically the effect of profitability, leverage and institutional ownership on firm value with dividend policy as an intervening variable. The research data is secondary data in the form of financial statement data and annual reports of companies belonging to the manufacturing industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2016 to 2018, totaling 138 companies. Data analysis used path analysis. The results showed that profitability, leverage and institutional ownership had a significant effect on dividend policy. The variables of profitability, leverage and dividend policy are proven to have a significant effect on firm value, while institutional ownership has no effect on firm value. The dividend policy variable is able to moderate the effect of profitability on firm value, but it is not able to moderate the effect of leverage and institutional ownership on firm value.
