Abstract

General Background: Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie has long been recognized for its psychological complexity and portrayal of familial dysfunction. Specific Background: While many analyses focus on psychoanalytic or realist readings, the play also invites exploration through existential philosophy, particularly that of Jean-Paul Sartre. Knowledge Gap: Limited scholarly attention has been given to examining the play through an existentialist-expressivist lens that bridges literary technique and philosophical inquiry. Aim: This paper aims to reinterpret The Glass Menagerie through Sartrean existentialism, focusing on themes of freedom, identity, and authenticity. Results: The study finds that Williams employs memory and expressionist techniques to illustrate characters’ existential crises, highlighting their struggles with "bad faith," alienation, and the burden of freedom. Amanda, Tom, and Laura each embody forms of existential angst and self-deception, yet their experiences also signal the possibility of self-assertion and authentic living. Novelty: The paper offers a novel reading by integrating Sartrean concepts such as subjectivity, personal responsibility, and authenticity with Williams’s theatrical method, revealing deeper existential dimensions of the play. Implications: This perspective not only broadens the interpretative scope of the play but also demonstrates how literary works can serve as philosophical discourses, emphasizing the relevance of existential thought in analyzing human experience amid socio-political pressures. Highlights: Explores The Glass Menagerie through Sartrean existential philosophy. Analyzes characters' identity, freedom, and existential crisis via expressionism. Reveals existential depth and philosophical relevance in Williams’s dramatic technique. Keywords: Existentialism, Expressionism, Jean-Paul Sartre, Tennessee Williams, Plastic Theatre, Subjective Identity.

Abstract

Odontoma at 24,9%, is the second most common odontogenic tumors of the jaws after ameloblastoma, and it occurs more in children than adults. It is often asymptomatic and accidentally found on the patients with tooth loss or malposition. There are two types of odontoma based on its form, namely compound odontoma and complex odontoma. Odontoma is treated by conventional surgery. In general, recurrences do not occur in these cases. In this report, odontoma was found bilaterally in posterior maxilla which is a rare case because mostly compound odontoma is reported to occur in the anterior maxilla. Case Report: A 35-year-old man with no oral complaints came for a consultation before undergoing orthodontic treatment. OPG examination was performed and there were lesions that led to the diagnosis of compound odontoma. Furthermore, odontoma excision was performed and impacted teeth were removed from the patient Conclusion: Although most of odontoma cases are asymptomatic, early diagnosis and treatments are required to minimize the occurrence of complications and improve the prognosis of treatment. Highlights: Odontoma is the second most common odontogenic tumor after ameloblastoma. Case involves rare bilateral posterior maxilla compound odontoma. Early diagnosis prevents complications and improves prognosis. Keywords: Odontoma, Hamartroma, Odontogenic tumor, Benign tumor

Abstract

General Background: The food and beverage industry faces intense competition, prompting businesses to apply strategic marketing to reach and retain consumers. Specific Background: A café business in Surabaya is used as a case to assess how marketing strategies affect customer behavior in a highly competitive market. Knowledge Gap: There is limited empirical analysis on how the individual components of the Marketing Mix 7P influence both purchasing and repurchasing decisions within local food service settings. Aims: This study aims to examine the role of the Marketing Mix 7P (Product, Price, Place, Promotion, People, Process, and Physical Evidence) in shaping purchasing and repurchasing decisions using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach with AMOS software. Results: Data collected from 120 respondents through an online questionnaire show that Product and Place significantly influence purchasing decisions. People, Process, and Physical Evidence do not show significant effects, while Price and Promotion were removed due to multicollinearity. Furthermore, purchasing decisions are found to significantly affect repurchase behavior, while none of the marketing mix variables directly influence repeat purchases. Novelty: This study presents empirical findings from a local café context using SEM to uncover which marketing factors matter most in influencing consumer behavior. Implications: Results suggest focusing marketing strategies on product quality and location to encourage initial purchase, which in turn supports repeat purchase behavior. Highlights: Product and Place significantly affect purchasing decisions. Purchasing decisions drive repeat purchase behavior. Price and Promotion excluded due to multicollinearity issues. Keywords: Marketing Mix, SEM, Consumer Decision, Repurchase, Food Service
