The Jurnal Proteksi Tanaman Tropis (Journal of Tropical Crops Protection = J. Trop. Crop Prot.) (ISSN: 2716-1234) is a peer-reviewed and open-access journal devoted to publishing research papers in all fields of Tropical Crop Protection, including basic phytopathology, entomology, weed, economy, epidemiology, and other design-related fields. It aims to provide an international forum for the exchange of ideas and findings from researchers across different cultures and encourages research on the impact of cultural factors on design theory and practice. It also seeks to promote the transfer of knowledge between professionals in academia and industry by emphasizing research in which results are of interest or applicable to design practices.

Abstract

Field experiments on the effectiveness and selectivity of herbicides use several active ingredients there were Sulfentrazone, Ethyl Pirazosulfuron, and Oxifluorfen with 2 varieties there were Peleton and Kanton tavi. The purpose of the study was to discover the most effective and selective herbicide active ingredients. The study was conducted from February to May 2019. This study used a randomized block design with 7 treatments, namely A (Kontrol), B (Oksifluorfen, peleton), C (Etil pirazosulfuron, peleton), D (Sulfentrazon, peleton), E (Oksifluorfen, kanton tavi), F (Etil pirazosulfuron, kanton tavi), G (Sulfentrazon, kanton tavi). Each treatment was repeated 4 times. The data were analyzed used analysis of variance (ANOVA), further testing used the DMRT test with a 5 % level. The results showed that the application of herbicides made from sulfentrazone, ethyl pirazosulfuron, oxifluorfen in peleton varieties and kanton tavi can suppress weed growth in the research area. The best weed control results were shown by herbicide treatment with sulfentrazone as active ingredient in the kanton tavi variant. The best long bean production results were shown by herbicide treatment with sulfentrazone in peleton varieties. The application of herbicides with active oxifluorfen made no symptoms of phytotoxicity, but decreased the yield of kanton tavi varieties and peleton varieties.

Abstract

Bacterial clove wood vessel disease is one of the diseases that affect clove production. The symptoms of the attack are characterized by yellowing of the leaves which then fall, branches and dead branches followed by sudden wilting with insect vectors namely Hindola sp. BPKC disease in 1990 was initially identified as Pseudomonas syzygii, but in 2004 it was re-identified as Ralstonia syzygii. The research method used is physiological characterization and biochemical characterization. The results of physiological characterization in the form of gram test, hypersensitivity test, NaCl level test and growth have the exact same character as the existing literature, while the results in biochemical characterization are glucose, sucrose, maltose, mannitol, dulsitol and sorbitol. only different in the dulsitol and sorbitol test. Keywords: characterization, bacterial wilt, identification

Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda JE Smith. is a new pest on maize plants in Indonesia and is polyphagous. The purpose of this study is to find out what plants are lettuce and pakcoy can be used as potential hosts for S. frugiperda, its life cycle, sex ratio and number of eggs produced in the laboratory. The research was conducted in October 2019 - January 2020. Treatment and observations were carried out at the Botanical Laboratory, Ahmad Dahlan University. The parameters taken were the average value of larvae length, head diameter, weight of instar larvae 3 - 6, length and weight of pupa, sex ratio, number of eggs, and life cycle length of S. frugiperda. The highest average value of all observed parameters was pakcoy leaves. The length of time needed for one life cycle is the fastest for pakcoy leaves for 37 days. This study showed that lettuce and pakcoy plants could be used as potential hosts with the best growth in the treatment of pakcoy leaves. Keywords: Brassica rapa, Lactuuca sativa, pakcoy , lettuce, S. frugiperda

Abstract

Weeds are one of the limiting factors in oil palm cultivation. One of the most dangerous weeds in oil palm plantations is Stenochlaena palustris. This weed generally grows and develops in the lowlands, which contain lots of water. This study aimed to determine the combination of active ingredients and herbicide concentrations that effectively control S. palustris. This research used a randomized block design (RBD) with eight treatments of the active herbicide in 15 liters of water, namely methyl metsulfuron 5 g + ammonium glufosinate 50 ml, methyl metsulfuron 10 g + ammonium glufosinate 50 ml, methyl metsulfuron 2.4 g + triclopyr mix and aminopyralid potassium 45 ml + adjuvant 15 ml, methyl metsulfuron 2.4 g + mix triclopyr and aminopyralid potassium 60 ml + adjuvant 15 ml, methyl metsulfuron 10 g + ammonium glufosinate 30 ml + sulfentrazone 10 ml, methyl metsulfuron 6.6 g + glyphosate 66 ml, 5 g methyl metsulfuron + 50 ml glyphosate, and 100 ml glyphosate + 5 g saflufenacil with three replications. Observation data was carried out by analysis of variance and followed by the least significant difference test (LSD) at the 95% confidence level. The results showed a mortality rate of 100% in the treatment of methyl metsulfuron 10 g + ammonium glufosinate 30 ml + sulfentrazone 10 ml had been achieved in 3 weeks after application so that this treatment was the most effective in controlling S. palustris with rapid death and the re- long growth. Abstract

This research aimed to identify pest insects that harm maize so the result can be used as a reference to determine the strategy to control them. This research was conducted in North Tarakan District, North Kalimantan Province, from May 2020 until October 2020. The research showed that insects found on maize using insect traps consisted of 6 ordo, 12 families, and 12 species with a total of 190 individuals. Of 190 individuals, those insects' roles act as pollinators by 25%, predator 17%, parasitoid 17%, and 33% as herbivore. The biggest role of the insects in the maize field act as herbivores or pests by 33%. The high pest population is closely related to the preference of hostplant, plant age, and climate. In the study, 4 species of maize pests were found: Locusta migratoria, Atherigona soccata, Cochliomyia macellaria, and Musca domestica. Keywords: diversity, identification, insect, pest, Zea mays
