Abstract

This study discusses the novel pearl s. Bucks the good earth. This study tells about a betrayal, a poor farmer named Wang Lung who married a slave who was willing to sacrifice and accompany wang lung to become a farmer until finally at the peak of success where wang lung became a rich man and began to betray O-Lan by having an affair with Lotus is a beautiful woman who awaits the tea shop. The research will focus on the betrayal and infidelity experienced by O-Lan in the novel. Wang Lung's character in this novel is very influential in the storyline, O-Lan who has been holding back his patience for a long time finally rebelled. and many things that happen in the novel that are closely related to the two, Therefore this research will focus on the betrayal that occurred. The purpose of this study is to discuss the betrayal with infidelity committed by the character Wang-Lung on his wife O-Lan based on observations of novel stories, in order to obtain accurate and more complete data. This research will also be supported by several theories from experts so that the data obtained becomes more focused and the researcher also reads more than once so that all the data obtained becomes more complete. The results of this study indicate the factors that cause betrayal and infidelity. This study can conclude that Wang lung's character has a big influence on the storyline. Loyalty selfishness can have an effect on domestic relationships.

Abstract

This study which is entitled “Figurative Language in Emily Dickinson Poems” focusing on the use of a figurative languiage and categorize it accordance with the types and describe the meaning of figurative language itself. The reseacher choose five poems which have interesting titles and famous works of Emily Dickinson and using intrinsic approach to gain an understanding of the meaning of figurative language in each poem.The data were collected from Emily Dickinson’s poems and focused on the figurative language. The data which have been identified, collected and classified are analyzed descriptively by using intrinsic approach. This study uses the theory of Perrine in his book “Literature, Structure, Sound and Sense”. According to Perrine, figurative language is away to express something beyond the usual way. In his book also describes the types of figurative language such as personification, metaphor, simile, symbol, synecdoche, metonymy, and hyperbole. The result of this study can be summarized as follows : first, in the poems of Emily Dickinson there are three types of figurative language, including : personification, simile, hyperbole. The personification and simile types dominate every poem of Emily Dickinson. Second, the meaning of figurative language used by Emily Dickinson in her poems in general described Emily Dickinson life experience.

Abstract

This Study is entitled An Analysis Racism in Angie Thomas Novel Concrete Rose. It aims to describe the forms of racism reflected in the novel and to describe Maverick struggle to fight against Racism. The study is designed as descriptive qualitative study since the object of the study and the result of analysis are presented in descriptive form. The approach used is sociological approach The sociological approach to literary works is one type of approach in the sociology of literature that is used to analyze the events, characterizations, and settings contained in the short stories that are read. Humans take actions intentionally to accomplish their goals, at the same time, human actions have unintended consequences (unintentional consequences) of setting that impact on subsequent human actions. Humans according to this theory are agents of purposeful actors who have reasons for their activities and are able to describe those reasons repeatedly. This study describes the main character who is trying to achieve his goals by dealing with racial conflicts that occur in his environment The author concludes that there are 2 types of racism in the novel Concrete Rose. The first is Prejudice. Prejudice is a prejudice or negative assessment of an object without knowing the truth first. Angie Thomas shows indirectly how prejudice occurs. Maverick's bad prejudice occurs because he is a black person. In America they have a bad reputation. The second is discrimination. Discrimination is an act that treats a person or group differently and unfairly on the basis of the characteristics of that person or group. Discrimination by police and paramedics against the main character is very, very detrimental and has a negative impact on the main character.

Abstract

This analysis about Rachel Lippincot’s novel entitled Five Feet Apart. The study focuses on what characteristics of the Young Adult Literature genre in the novel. The objective of the study aims to describe the characteristics of the Young Adult Literature genre found in the novel. The characteristics of Young Adult Literature relate to intrinsic elements of the novel which consist of character, theme, plot, and point of view. The approach used in analysing the novel is the structuralism approach. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The result of the analysis states that novel Five Feet Apart fulfils the qualifications of the characteristics of Young Adult Literature. The character of the novel have a physical appearance, the way they behave, and interact with each other. Such as Stella as the main character she have a characteristic of long eyelashes, sandy brown wavy hair, full lia ps, and thin body. While Will Newman as the second of the main character have a physical appearance that is a thin and tall body, deep blue eyes, and dark brown hair. Moreover, the characters in the novel have a change in attitude and way of thinking. As seen from the analysis, the plot in the novel have a faster and the storyline going in the present. Themes in the novel consist of some of themes that is Young Adult Literature and romance because the novel tells about the love story of the two people young adult suffering from lungs illness, that is Stella and Will. There are 2 point of view from the young adult protagonist person as the main character in the novel, in the first chapter begins with Stella point of view and the next chapter continuous by the point of view of Will Newman.

Abstract

This thesis is entitled Rachel Chu’s Personal Branding in Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians. The objective of the study is to explain Rachel Chu’s personal branding and the motivation of her personal branding. The type of research used is qualitative research. While the approach used is a psychological approach. This research is based on 8 concepts from Peter Montoya, namely specialization, leadership, personality, distinctiveness, visibility, unity, persistence, goodwill. This study shows that Rachel Chu’s does personal branding to improve her quality as an independent woman. Among the eight concepts of personal branding in Peter Montoya’s theory, there are five concepts which are found in Rachel Chu's personal branding. The first concept is specialization. Rachel Chu does personal branding about her strengths, skills, and accomplishments. Rachel Chu focusses on her educational attainment and her qualities. The second concept is personality. Rachel Chu presents herself according to her personality before meeting Nick's family, which means that Rachel Chu has a polite and good personality which is a pure personality without being manipulated. The third concept is distinctiveness. Rachel Chu does personal branding by presenting herself as different from other women. Rachel Chu is not a materialistic person and she is an independent woman. The fourth concept is persistence. Rachel Chu has the determination to achieve something she wants. She does to improve herself and also change herself for the better. The fifth is goodwill. someone who has met Rachel Chu admits that she is an intelligent woman because she is a professor and she is also a graduate of the top university in America. Rachel Chu can speak Mandarin well while she lives in America. Rachel Chu has not forgotten her native culture and she still understands where she comes from. Rachel Chu’s motivation to do personal branding is to pursue her education to improve herself and to be accepted by her boyfriend's family. From the description above, it can be concluded that personal branding in a person is very important. Rachel Chu does personal branding to build her own brand, not someone else's. Branding helps a person to be authentic.
