Abstract

A racial discrimination gives the impact to other people. A racial discrimination happens because white race is more dominant than black race. A white race feels more superior to the black race. The white race is dominated than black race. The Negro lives in poverty, slavery, human trafficking and physically abused. Many of the black people struggle against the condition of poverty, physically abused and many pressure of life.  There is no law for black people’ right which dominated by the white race and the white race people’ action to the black race cannot be stopped. Furthermore, the researcher is interested to the topic of racial discrimination in the novel of Harriet Becheer Stowe’s Uncle Tom Cabin. The researcher analyzes three main problems that are how racial discrimination depicted in the novel, what are the factors of racial discrimination in the novel and what the effects of racial discrimination in the novel are.The thesis uses descriptive qualitative research method. The data is taken from the quotations in the novel and related to the theory and the quotations will become the proofs of the analysis.  The researcher uses theory of race and racism based on Les Back and John Solomos’ book to analyze the data. The result of the research is that the factors of racial discrimination are slavery and human identity. The human identity refers to the identity of race. In addition, the effects of racial discrimination are human trafficking, family separation, physically abused and rebellion. Keywords: racial discrimination, race, black race

Abstract

         This study discusses the novel of Nicholas Sparks entitled A Walk to Remember. This study tells the story of Jamie Sullivan, a young girl who tries to live her days well and confidently even though she suffers from dangerous leukemia. This research was focused on the self-confidence of female character Jamie Sullivan in dealing with various things in the novel story. This research describes the character of Jamie Sullivan based on observations on novel stories, to obtain accurate and more complete data. This research was supported by several theories from experts so that the data obtained becomes more focused and the researcher also reads the novel more than once so that all data can be more complete. This research can conclude that confidence in the character of Jamie Sullivan is very influential in the storyline. Self-confidence can also play an important role in daily life. The relationship between family or parents with children also greatly affects the formation of the child's character. There are many in this novel that has not been examined. The researcher hopes this research can help further research both in the same novel or different but related.Keyword: Self-Confidence

Abstract

Women discrimination in the theory of gender discrimination is the difference in the treatment of women, violations of their rights, and women as victims who endanger or limit access to opportunities available to other members of the community.  The portrayal of female discrimination can be found in the drama entitled Ruined. This drama tells of the war in the Congo which led to raping and sexual violence which had been applied as a powerful weapon in achieving military and economic goals.  The main target is women.  Researchers wants to find out how women's discrimination occurs, then what are the factors and what are the effects of female discrimination. The purpose of this research is to find out how women discrimination occurs in Congo, find out the causes of discrimination and the impact of discrimination on the four female characters in the dramaThis research was designed in a qualitative manner using an explanatory method. The research data shows that there are four female characters who experience discrimination.  They are Mama Nadi, Josephine, Sophie, and Salima.  Discrimination factors found in drama such as economic ambition, social masculinity, and impunity. Furthermore, the results of the study showed that female discrimination had a major impact on the four characteristics of women victims and had physical and social impacts, such as stress, mental disorders, trauma, venereal disease, and even the greatest impact was suicide.Keyword: Women Discrimination
