Abstract

Rain gauges in Indonesia need recalibration at least twice a year, viz. at the end of dry season where the rain gauges will soon work harder and at the end of rainy season where usually there are many garbage on each rain gauge orifice. Based on the direct surveys in the fields and discussions at some rain gauge calibration laboratories in Indonesian western, central, and eastern parts, the calibration officers in the visited offices generally used manual rain gauge calibrators to recalibrate rain gauges on their fields. Therefore, the dependency of calibration results to the human beings is very high. Meanwhile to avoid data gathering discontinuation, rain gauges should be recalibrated in situ. To cope with this problem and other issues related to rain gauge calibrators, a research to develop a web based rain gauge calibrator was carried out. The research result using research and development method showed that this calibrator can work well as an in situ and ex situ rain gauge calibrator.

Abstract

Abstract— The 1 MN lever-type force standard machine operated by Research Center for Metrology Indonesian Institute of Sciences (RCM-LIPI) is the national standard for calibration of force measuring instruments from 2 kN to 1 MN measurement range. One of the assurances to ensure that the machine works well is through a system check. System check is carry out by comparing the force value generated by the machine to the force generated by the deadweight at capacity of 10 kN and 20 kN. In this paper, data is collected from the system check results from 2007 to 2016. Data processing is carried out by comparing the result and examining the variants similarities. Results showed that the |En| number results for all data spread from 0.00 to 0.91 with average 0.35 and variance of the system check results has variants similarities based on Fisher-test. These results indicate that the 1 MN lever-type force standard machine still has a good performance.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to produce an application program for the data processing unit of a web base rain gauge calibrator. The application program was developed using Studio XE2 of C ++ RAD (Rapid Application Development) software. Testing result shows that what you get was what you command or there was no different between the result and the command.

Abstract

The humidifier cooler (or commonly known as air cooler) is a common device used by individuals to gain a more comfortable space and widely available in Indonesian market. Regarding either prices or power consumption, this device is an intermediate choice among household appliances with similar purpose, such as air fan and refrigerator-based air conditioner (AC). However due to the device working mechanism, there could be a possibility transfer of evaporated liquid from cold water flow to the output air flow that probably makes an increase of the relative humidity of the room space. This phenomenon raises a concern because the rise of the relative humidity during an attempt to reduce air temperature is undesirable due to the thermal comfort principle. Through simulations, it can be evaluated that room temperature could be kept at 26,4°C and 28,1°C for a normal and an unfavourable condition, respectively. However, there is an increase of room humidity by 38,1% which is significant enough to shift room condition toward an unhealthy state.

Abstract

Abstract

The crossfloat (CF) method is well-known for its accurate and reliable results, however the difficulty on performing CF method arises when dealing with insensitive piston of calibrated DWT. In contrary, automatic transducer assisted crossfloat (TAC) method could be implemented since it does not affected by this condition as it advantages. The used of TAC method could avoid up to 0.008% relative error of effective area at zero pressure and at 20 °C (A0,20) and twice higher error distortion coefficient (b) in case of calibrating insensitive piston of DWT. In addition, the TAC method has another advantage that is save time with consistent result because it can be performed automatically. Once should be consider when using TAC method is the accuracy of pressure transducer. In this case study, the existing pressure transducer owned by RCM – LIPI, could be utilized to perform automatic TAC method in lower pressure range down to 2 MPa that below 10% of its maximum scale, to calibrate low accuracy DWT greater than 0.08%.
