Abstract

One alternative energy that can e developed in the future is water. The water can produce future fuels, namely hydrogen and oxy-hydrogen, through the electrolysis of water. Electrolysis of water is one way to produce hydrogen into electrical and thermal energy conversion of hydrogen and oxygen. This study used a dry cell type HHO generator to produce Oxy-hydrogen. Oxy-hydrogen consists of two hydrogens and one oxygen or Oxy-hydrogen (HHO). Carried out to determine the optimal performance of the mass fraction of the catalyst on the productivity of Oxy-hydrogen by mixing 2500 ml of air and NaHCO3 as a catalyst. The observed mass catalyst fractions were 0.69, 1.38, 1.77, 2.15, 5 7.5, 10, and 15%. The results showed that the best Oxy-hydrogen production performance using a catalyst was 10% catalyst mass fraction with a production rate of 0.02250 l/s with an efficiency of 36.98%.

Abstract

The use of modified starch, especially from cereal sources in food products, is still very limited in Indonesia. Corn has a fairly high carbohydrate content so it is very potential to modify starch, such as using the heat moisture treatment (HMT) method. The HMT method is a physical modification method of starch, which will be able to produce starch with a moisture content of less than 35%. Several studies have stated that physical modification using HMT and/or can be combined with pectin, gum arabic, xanthan gum and guar gum can improve the physical characteristics of the resulting product. This review aims to determine the physical characteristics of corn starch treated with HMT modification with and without a combination of treatments using Arabic gum, xanthan gum, and guar gum. The results showed that the HMT treatment (100°C, 16 hours, 25%) had the lowest swelling power and solubility values compared to other samples. The HMT-Pectin treatment had a low syneresis value, as the impact it has good freeze- thaw stability compared with the others. Meanwhile, corn starch-modified by HMT with gum (gum arabic, xanthan gum, and guar gum) significantly did not change the type of crystallinity of starch.

Abstract

Food safety and nutrition will determine the degree of health. Many restaurants sell various types of food but not yet known whether the food served is safe or not. One of the typical foods from Padang restaurants is rendang. The cooking process of rendang needs a long time, so rendang is made in large quantities. It causes rendang to experience storage long enough that it can trigger bacterial growth. Therefore, HACCP is needed to prevent food contamination. This study aims to determine the design of HACCP in rendang padang restaurant. This research used survey and direct interview methods with the owner to determine the design and implementation of HACCP. Based on the analysis, show that the formulation of the HACCP stages shows that the main points of Critical ingredients are spices and coconut milk, receipt and preparation of raw materials, preparation of equipment used, cooking process, storage, and distribution. Corrective action that can be taken is to return raw materials and provide advice to the seller and always clean. From the results of bacterial testing on rendang, it meets the requirements of SNI 7474:2009. Padang restaurant entrepreneurs are advised to choose suppliers of raw materials implement a food safety system and apply personal hygiene and food sanitation hygiene

Abstract

The world's energy keeps continuing to increase, meanwhile, the fossil energy used creates emissions problems and long-term dependence. Therefore, it is necessary to diversify energy to new and renewable energy. Especially to replace fossil energy whose availability is reducing. One alternative energy that has the potential to continue to be developed is biodiesel. Indonesia is currently one of the largest palm oil-producing countries in the world with a total production of 40 million tons by 2020. Biodiesel can be used directly without having to modify the combustion chamber of a diesel engine. However, the use of biodiesel, especially B30 (30% biodiesel + 70% diesel mixture) which is currently used in Indonesia, must receive special attention for the effects if applied to diesel engines in the long term. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the use of B30 on the performance of the diesel engine produced with a test time of 200 hours of operation. This study uses an experimental method, with a loading using a 4000 Watt halogen lamp. Engine rotational speed is kept constant at 2200 RPM and measurement of fuel consumption per unit time using a burette. Fuel consumption was measured using a manual technique with a 20 ml capacity burette, while the time the engine spent fuel was measured using a stopwatch. Based on the test results, the average power and torque values ??produced by the B30 engine are 4.45 kW and 12.54 N.m. Meanwhile, the value of specific fuel consumption and average thermal efficiency produced is 0.28 kg/kW.hour and 29.43%. Performance changes in diesel engines can be influenced by several factors including the calorific value of the fuel and the viscosity value of the B30 fuel used.

Abstract

The separation of heavy metals, zinc (Zn) and chromium (Cr), in biosolid waste can be carried out by an extraction process using H2SO4 as a solvent. The extraction process was carried out with a variation of time agitation and sulfuric acid concentration. The extracted cake was then analyzed using the atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) method. The most effective reduction in Zn and Cr levels was obtained at 120 minutes and a solvent concentration of 1.5M with an efficiency of 98.80% and 97.89%, respectively.

Abstract

Stainless steel is a kind of metal alloy that is widely used in industrial equipment. The problem faced by all metals that come into contact with corrosive medium is corrosion. Corrosion or metal deterioration can not be avoided since it is a spontaneous reaction between the metal with its environment. One method to control the corrosion of metal alloy is by adding the inhibitor into the medium. The addition of inhibitors in synergy is discussed. The addition of a phosphate inhibitor as a film-forming role on the metal surface is assisted by the addition of carbohydrazide components in controlling dissolved oxygen levels in seawater. The addition of inhibitors in synergy is expected to increase the efficiency of the inhibitor’s performance in a single work. This research aims to determine the best composition for phosphate and carbohydrazide inhibitors due to the effect of synergy in controlling the corrosion rate of metal alloys in seawater. The synthetic seawater medium was the 3.5% NaCl dilution prepared by diluting the NaCl crystal into the demineralized water. The phosphate inhibitor was added into the medium with various compositions (100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 ppm). Then, the carbohydrazide was added into the medium with the multiple compositions 5, 7.5, 10 and 15. The corrosion rate measurement was done by using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Instrument. The Stainless steel sample was prepared by cutting the stainless steel plate with a size 1cm x 1 cm and a thickness of around 2- 3 mm. The measurement process was done by putting the specimen in the working electrode and dipping into the medium with and without the inhibitors. The results show that the addition of inhibitor effectively decreases the corrosion rate. The best result is obtained when the ratio between phosphate and carbohydrazide is 100:10 ppm, which reduces the corrosion rate from 0.40128 mpy to 0.008 mpy

Abstract

Landfill management in Indonesia is mostly operated by open dumping as well as the Klotok’s Landfill at Klotok Village, Kediri City. This landfill has three lands, and the third landfill is currently actively operating. The pollution is like the occurrence of leaks in leachate storage tanks which is near the Klotok river. That situation can make the leachate enter the river and affect the physicochemical conditions of the water which have an impact on decreasing the diversity and abundance of plankton. The diversity of plankton species in aquatic ecosystems is often used as an indicator to determine the primary productivity of waters and the condition of the aquatic ecosystem, so this research was carried out to determine the diversity of plankton species in the Klotok river, so the quality of the water can be known. This research was conducted in the Klotok River, Kediri City, East Java. Samples were taken upstream of the Klotok River, near the leachate treatment Plant, and downstream of the Klotok River. Samples were taken as much as 21 liters by pouring method. The samples are poured into plankton nets. The result shows that plankton diversity in the water body near Klotok landfill is between 0,49 to 0,67, which indicates that the diversity index according to Shannon-Wiener is 0,49 where the species diversity is low, the number of individual species is low, the ecosystem is unstable, and the waters are degraded.

Abstract

Sludge treatment at the IPLT is an advanced treatment activity the sewage sludge in the septic tank is not suitable for disposal to the environment because it still contains organic high. The Jabon Sidoarjo IPLT is the object of research and aims to determine the environmental impact caused by the sewage sludge treatment process at the Jabon Sidoarjo IPLT using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Method. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is used to conduct an environmental impact assessment using the Impact 2002+ method and using a gate-to-gate approach. The data for each processing process was analyzed with SimaPro 9.0 software. The three biggest contributions of the LCA analysis on the sewage treatment process are non-renewable energy, global warming, and respiratory inorganics. The recommended alternative improvement programs are the application of green buildings in the area around the processing plant, the use of inverters to save electricity, and regular monitoring of cleaning or updating of the processing unit.

Abstract

A numerical study has been carried out to analyze the unsteady behavior of velocity distribution and wall shear stress in the stenotic artery using computational fluid dynamics. The 2D channel geometry was an idealized geometry model of the internal carotid artery and the stenosis is modeled as an asymmetric square step corresponding to a 25% reduction in the internal carotid artery reduction. The blood flow is considered a Newtonian fluid. The wall of the artery is considered rigid. A uniform flow is assumed in the inlet boundary condition and zero gradient pressure is considered as an outlet boundary condition setup. The recirculation region and low WSS are visible at the post-stenosis location (at x = 0h to x = 10h). Although the velocity profile recovers fully developed at x = 12h to the outlet, the lower WSS is still observed. This numerical result indicates that the presence of stenosis in the internal carotid artery will catalyze the formation of new plaques in the neighborhood area of the post-stenosis location

Abstract

Shrimp shell waste contains chitin which is considered potential as a mask coating material to remove toxic substances in cigarette smoke. The masks were made using Chitosan Polymer Medium (CPM) with the spray coating method. Therefore, this study aims to determine the optimal concentration of reducing nicotine, constant, and reduced capacity of Chitosan Polymer Medium (CPM). The variations used were the type of CPM, the total spraying was 3 sprays, 5 sprays, and 7 sprays, and the concentration of CPM was 10,000 ppm, 20,000 ppm, 30,000 ppm, 40,000 ppm, and 50,000 ppm. The best result is the nicotine removal percentage is 99.98%, and the adsorption capacity is 7,0376 mg/g. The results showed that shrimp shell CPM was effective as an adsorbent in the adsorption process to remove nicotine in cigarette smoke.
