Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether word search puzzle can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary. This pre-experimental study uses 22 students as a sample. They are grade VIID of SMP N 1 Galang. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that word wall media contribute greatly to the students’ vocabulary. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 61.545 while in the post-test improved up to 75.727. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 6.172 is high than T-table value 2.831. It can be inferred that word search puzzle was very effective to increase students’ vocabulary.  Keywords:  Increasing, vocabulary, word wall media

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out whether the use of self-questioning strategy improve the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text.The design of this research is experimental research. The population of this researchis the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tolitoli in the academic year of 2015/2016. The number of the subjects is 35 students. The data areobtain by administering reading test to the VIII B. The research is started by giving pre-test, treatments,and post-test. The data of the test areanalyze by using t-test formula to know the difference of the students’comprehension in reading narrative text. In the pre-test, the mean score of the experimental research is 49.34. The mean score of post-test of the experimental research is 83.20. The result of the t-test  differenceis 11.848and t-table is2.032. It means that t-value is higherthan t-table (11.848>2.032). The calculation reveal that the hypothesis about asignificant difference on reading comprehension between students who arethrough narrative text by using Self-Questioning strategy.Based on the research conduct, it is  prove that the use of Self-Questioning strategy is effective as a strategy to improve students’ Reading Comprehension In Narrative Text Of VIII Grade At SMPN 3 Tolitoli. Key Words     : Improve, Reading Comprehension,Self-Questioning strategy,Narrative text,

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out or the application of think aloud strategy effective to improve students’ ability in reading narrative text. It is a pre-experimental research. The study is take by the VIII Grade of SMP Negeri 3 Galang. It is conduct in one class (VIII A). the data are obtain through a pre-test and post-test. The researcher used SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data collection. The result of the analysis showed that the application of Think Aloud Strategy greatly to students in reading narrative text. The mean score of pre-test was 40.81 while in the post-test improved up to 81.96. Moreover the minimum mastery criterion of English lesson is 65 (sixty-five). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-count value is 13.63 greater than T-table value is 2.060. it can be inferred that the application of think aloud is very effective to improve students’ ability in reading narrative text.  Key Word: Improving, Reading, Think Aloud

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve students reading comprehension of the VII grade of MTs. Hi. Hayyun Salumpaga by using humor story. This research belongs to experimental design following the three step is pretest, treatment, posttest. The population of the research is the VII grade students of MTs. Hi. Hayyun Salumpaga. The data were analyzed by using experimental analysis in order to know the significant difference of the achievement of the students in pretest and posttest. By applying 0.05 level of significant, the researcher find out that tcount 5.900 is higher than ttable 2.060. It is suggested that humor story in teaching English can be recommended for the English teacher. But the English teacher a hold select appropriate humor story to the students.Key Word: Improving, Reading Comprehension, Humor Story.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether Indonesian Folktale can improve students’ reading comprehension  or not. This research is pre experimental research design consist of one group pre-test and post-test. The Population of this research are the eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Dondo in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIIIb consisted of 29 students. In collecting the data, the researcher conduct test covered pre and post test. The researcher analized the data statically.The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 74.83 is higher than pretest 33.38. To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 28 degree of freedom (29-1=28), the researcher found that the t – table is 2.048. It means that the t-counted (23.96) is higher than t-table (2.048) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted.The researcher concluded that using Indonesian Folktale can improve students’ reading comprehension at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Dondo.Key Word: Reading comprehension, Indonesian Folktale.
