Abstract

The present study aimed to identify the Octolasmis spp. ectoparasite's intensity and prevalence in mud crab in Pohuwato Regency. It employed survey and site observation methods with sampling technique of mud crabs in Pohuwato Regency. The research was carried out in three different sites: site 1 (Pohuwato Timur Village), site II (Bulili Village), and site III (Mootilango Village). The results showed that the parasites infesting mud crab in the three separate locations are Octolasmis angulata and Octolasmis cor. The highest intensity rate was at site III, which was dominated by Octolasmis cor. The prevalence of the parasite in sites I, II, and III was 60%, 40%, and 60% in consecutive order. Moreover, the parasite has a 100% and 46% prevalence in female and male crabs, respectively. The water quality indicator (involving temperature, pH level, and soluble oxygen) was at the appropriate rate for mud crab farming.

Abstract

Seagrass beds are a wealth of marine resources, one of the ecosystems found in coastal areas, capable of producing various secondary metabolites, and seagrasses are known to contain antibacterial active compounds. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial potential of seagrass extracts from Zone I (large and small Lae-lae Island) and Zone II (Gusung Bone Batang and Barrang Lompo) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The test method used is the agar diffusion method. The results showed that in Zone I, H. ovalis had an average inhibition of 7.9 mm and E. acoroides had an average inhibition of 8.15 mm, while in Zone II, E. acoroides was 2.5 mm, C Rotundata 1.18 mm, H. uninervis 1.53 mm, T. hemprichii 1.2 mm and H. ovalis 1.73 mm. The highest level of antibacterial activity was in the type of E. acoroides.

Abstract

The increase in the utilization of octopus fishery has made it one of the main commodities of the national fisheries sub-sector. One of the areas that make octopus the main commodity for fishing targets is located on Tarupa Island, Selayar Islands Regency. However, with the increasing market demand for octopuses, the pressure on catching octopus will increase so that it is feared that it will disrupt the octopus's own resources. This study aims to evaluate the management status of octopus fisheries on Tarupa Island using the EAFM (Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management) approach in the domain of fishing techniques. The assessment of fisheries management in this study uses a method that refers to the NWG EAFM (National Working Group Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management) module. In these various methods, the types of data taken are primary data and secondary data. Analysis of the data used an ordinal-based Likert scoring with scoring assessments of 1, 2, and 3. The greater the value, the better the EAFM fisheries management. The results showed that the management of octopus fisheries on Tarupa Island, Selayar Islands Regency based on the EAFM assessment in the fishing technique domain obtained a composite value of 92 with the category of Very Good status. The majority of all indicators get the maximum scoring value, only the fishery crew certification indicator by the regulations obtains the minimum scoring value

Abstract

Based on the results obtained from this study, it can be concluded that: (1). Halimeda sp density based on stations, there is a noticeable difference between station 1 and station 3, (2)Halimeda sp density based on the research time, namely there is a noticeable difference between the study time in July and October, (3) Padina sp density based on stations, there is a noticeable difference between station 1 and station 2, and (4). The density of Padina sp is based on the time of the study, that is, there is a noticeable difference between the time of the study in July and October.

Abstract

Highly Migratory Species are one of the fish resources legally protected according to the UNCLOS 1982. This protection is carried out to ensure adequate world fish stocks and the sustainability of these fish resources. Internationally, the efforts to protect it are the obligation of all countries. This study examines the state's commitment to preserving these Highly Migratory Species. This research is normative juridical research that utilizes secondary data, including primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials using qualitative analysis. The study results show that several international legal instruments complement the provisions of the UNCLOS 1982, which regulates the state's obligations to protect Highly Migratory Species in a concrete way, i.e., related to management and conservation. Some regional fisheries organizations have been formed to implement the state's obligation to cooperate in managing and protecting Highly Migratory Species in each specific regulated area.
