Students tend to be passive when they are in learning about material related to speaking. The objectives of this research are; to find out students' speaking score by applying drama technique; to find out students' score by using simulation technique; to find out whether the drama is better than simulation technique in increasing students' speaking ability. The population of this research is 37 students in the fourth semester of English Department at the Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The researcher conducts systematic random sampling design and pre-test and post-test control group design as a research instrument. The result of hypothesis test on test phases both provides the different result which uses 5% significant degree, where a count is higher than t -table on the analysis data of post-test with t-count =2,36  and t-table =2,12. It shows that the students who are taught by drama technique having a higher score. In conclusion that drama technique is more effective than simulation technique in term of students' speaking ability.

Abstract

Online learning has been main concern in today’s teaching learning process since the rising use of internet. It offers many variant activities and it becomes new alternative way to communicate among teacher and students. Recently students and teachers are expected to have decent knowledge in digital learning as one way to facilitate their learning process. One form of digital learning is using Edmodo in the class. The e-learning model using edmodo was developed to support teaching and learning process in University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri. This media offers an authentic material that can be accessed anytime and anywhere. This model also gives the external links to get the other resources in the World Wide Web. The external links given is related to a discussion topic or material, and it is to improve the students' knowledge and skill in teaching and learning. Because this media is a e-learning model, the students enjoy when they browse and take a look into the material provided. Some of researchers have done the research on it, yet these studies mostly focus on the teachers’ perception towards its application in their classes. This study is a bit different as it is concentrated on students’ perceptions or voice towards Edmodo application in the class. The aim of this study is to explore students’ perception or students’ voice on online learning particularly Edmodo application in class.

Abstract

There are huge numbers of English lessons available on-line and are ready to be used by TEFL and ELT teachers for teaching Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Pronunciation, Grammar, etc. Some on-line English lessons may receive less attention from the students as the web pages are too complicated or the addresses are too difficult to be accessed. It can be caused by improper choice of learning template such as Moodle, Edmodo, the Blackboard system, etc or caused by type of application  used such as Wondershare, PPT Macros, Aurora 3D, Zondle, Hotpotato, iMindmap, Drop Box, Edmodo, ToolBook, Smashwords, Amazon Kindle DX, PowToon, and so forth. Therefore, it is critical to understand students’ continuous intention in following on-line English lessons. This study was aimed at assessing the influence of Perceived Usefulness and Ease of Use on Students’ Continuous Intention in learning on-line English Lessons. There were 230 pre-service English students (4A-4E classes) who took compulsory course of Teaching Media/ Instructional Technology during the academic year of 2016/2017.The students were divided into several groups for joining on-line English lessons of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary, and TOEFL. While joining those on-line lessons, the researcher measured their continuous attention from ease-of-use, and perceived usefulness of extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The data were collected through questioners and analysed by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM).The results indicate that the students’ intentions are influenced positively by the design of the lessons, lessons delivery/ease-of-use, and their perceived usefulness. Perceived usefulness (PU) influenced more on students’ motivation than ease-of-use (PEOU). It is recommended that designers of on-line English lessons should consider students’ prior knowledge of ICT, pedagogical principles, and technological barrier in the students’ location for receiving more positive enduring intention.

However, the partial understanding about dyslexia and the related things can cause the inappropriate and unfriendly actions to support them. Thus, in this article, the writer tries to discuss about the way how to create friendly English instruction for dyslexic learners which is based on the experts’ suggestions. In accordance with the topic, this article covers the descriptive and critical review on dyslexic learners, English instruction for dyslexic learners, and friendly English instruction for dyslexic learners. Abstract

The objectives of this research are to know whether there is a difference result of reading comprehension by using mind mapping and knowledge mapping technique or not and to know which one is more effective technique between mind mapping and knowledge mapping technique. This research is a quantitative research. The design of this research is pre test-post test control group design which employs two groups. Experimentgroup is treated by mind mapping technique and control class is treated by knowledge mapping technique. Then, the total population is 123 students at the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Trimurjo. The researcher takes 40 students, 20 students as experiment and20 as control. In taking the sample, the researcher used total cluster random sampling. The result of ttest is 2,91 and ttable  is 2,02 (on criterion 1) and 2,70 (on criterion 2). It means that tcount>ttable. So, there is a difference result of reading comprehension by using mind mapping and knowledge mapping technique and reading comprehension by using mind mapping technique is more effective than knowledge mapping technique.

Abstract

English is one of compulsory subjects at the computer science department in a higher education. Since English is not a field of study at the computer science, it is taught as an ESP (English for Specific Purposes). The fact that English is part of the curriculum at the computer science department makes it challenging for both the teachers and the students. The majority of the students will always deal with motivation, whereas teachers face a great challenge in designing an appropriate instructional material that gives short-term and long-term effects to the students. Besides, there are two types of teachers who teach English for computer science students, English teachers who have English education background and English teachers who do not own degrees in English education. These two types of teachers experience their own strengths and weaknesses in designing English instructional materials. This research, therefore, will combine the strengths of the teachers in the development of English instructional materials for computer science students that will have short-term and long-term impacts to the students. This research is applying an action research which is divided into some cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants are three English teachers and two classes of computer science students.

Abstract

Being a rich source of language and culture, literature has been an ideal tool for the study of a language. As literature offers a bountiful and extremely varied body of written material that deals with enduring human issues, it facilitates in enhancing students’ language proficiency as well as expanding their knowledge horizon. Accordingly, literature seems to provide answers for the question posed by the 4th UAD TEFL International Conference: how to teach English in order to boost students’ language proficiency while empowering them with knowledge, skills and attitude in endorsing sustainable development and promoting global awareness. In this article I will share my experience from my literature class at PSU, where I deal with the concerned question.  I use two main literary works, A Street Cat Named Bob (2012), a biography by James Bowen and The Kite Runner (2003), a novel by Khaled Hosseini, to teach my students about human values such as love, loyalty, courage and social justice. At the same time, I introduce them to the world’s current issues such as diaspora, immigration, war and the idea of multicultural society.
