Abstract

This paper aims to examine women’s leadership from the perspective of the hadith. The approach used in this paper is qualitative, employing descriptive analytical methods and library research. This article attempts to present a textual and contextual analysis of women’s leadership in the public sphere. Based on the hadith interpretation conducted, the quality of the hadith narrated by al-Bukhari, al-Turmuzi, and al-Nasa’i regarding women’s leadership is generally sahih li dzatihi. Its chain of transmission meets the criteria for authenticity, and its textual source also meets the criteria for authenticity, namely, that  tis free from syudzudz and ‘illah. The method of understanding the hadith on women’s leadership, when viewed textually, indicates a prohibition on women becoming leaders. However, when understood contextually, Islam does not prohibit women from becoming leaders in public affairs, even as heads of state, provided they are capable of carrying out the mandate. Given current developments, the hadith on female leadership must be understood contextually, as the circumstances at that time were very different from those of today. Women already possessed the authority and ability to lead, so there was No. harm in choosing and appointing women as leaders.

Abstract

This article discusses the ongoing digital transformation, which not only affects people’s lifestyles but also influences the field of Islamic studies. The emergence of various digital platforms providing hadiths has, on the one hand, made access easier and saved time for users. Hadith books are no longer limited to printed form but are now available in PDF and app formats. However, on the other hand, new challenges related to the authenticity of hadith and the validity of their meanings are also at stake. This study aims to examine the transformation, opportunities, challenges, and academic efforts in establishing verification standards and raising awareness among the public who use digital platforms as a medium for reading, analyzing, understanding, and disseminating hadith. Using a descriptive-analytical literature review method, the research findings highlight the urgent need to consistently adhere to the principles of hadith science established by classical scholars. Their presence is a crucial prerequisite for the broader public who use digital platforms as a medium for seeking, reading, understanding, and disseminating hadith to a wider audience. Additionally, carefulness and caution are required in selecting verified digital platforms to avoid technical errors during the review process, making this balance crucial while leveraging the transformative potential of digital technology.

Abstract

The participation of women in funeral rites has long been a subject of juridical debate in Islamic scholarship, particularly in relation to the hadith narrated by Ummu ‘Aṭiyyah which mentions a prohibition on women following funeral processions. This study investigates the normative meaning and legal intent of the hadith by integrating hadith criticism with a maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah approach, as conceptualized by Imam al-Shāṭibī. Using qualitative library research, this article examines the transmission routes of the hadith, its linguistic formulation, and the interpretations offered by classical commentators and contemporary jurists. The study finds that the hadith is transmitted through authentic and continuous chains and is categorized as hadith ahad. Although its wording appears non-explicit in attributing the prohibition directly to the Prophet, the dominant scholarly position considers it marfū‘ due to established principles in hadith methodology. From a maqāṣid-oriented perspective, the prohibition is not intended as a permanent legal restriction but as a contextual measure aimed at preventing potential harm, particularly in safeguarding emotional stability and rational judgment during funeral rituals. These objectives correspond to the preservation of essential human interests, especially the protection of life (hifz al-nafs) and intellect (hifz al-aql). Accordingly, the study concludes that the legal ruling concerning women attending funerals is best understood as advisory rather than absolute, falling within the category of discouragement rather than prohibition. In contemporary settings where social norms and emotional discipline differ significantly from earlier contexts, women’s participation in funeral rites may be permissible, provided that Islamic ethical guidelines are observed. This research demonstrates that a maqasid-based reading of hadith offers a balanced interpretative framework that preserves textual authority while ensuring legal relevance across changing social realities.

Abstract

This article examines the prohibition of sitting on graves from the perspective of the Prophetic Hadith by emphasizing historical, normative, and contextual dimensions. The study is motivated by contemporary phenomena in which graveyards are not only used as sites of pilgrimage but also function as spaces for social activities, such as commercial practices found in the Pocong Market in Palembang. Employing a qualitative descriptiveanalytical method, this research analyzes relevant Hadiths through the lenses of asbāb alwurūd, linguistic structure, meanings and wisdom, as well as scholarly debates regarding their legal implications. The findings indicate that the prohibition of sitting on graves isgrounded in strong Hadith transmission and aims to preserve human dignity after death and maintain the sanctity of burial sites. Scholarly differences concerning whether the ruling is ḥarām or makrūh stem mainly from contextual considerations and the intention behind the act, yet converge on the shared principle of honoring the deceased. This study concludes that the prohibition functions not merely as a legal injunction but also as an ethical and spiritual guideline that remains relevant for regulating proper conduct (adab) toward graves in contemporary Muslim society.

Abstract

The Mukhtasar of Ibn Abi Jamrah on Sahih al-Bukhari is a condensed hadith compilation intended to present prophetic traditions in a concise and accessible form. This study examines selected hadiths in the manuscript, focusing on three main themes: the virtue of reciting basmalah, the ethical significance of smiling, and descriptions of human conditions on the Day of Judgment. It also analyzes the simplification of the chains of transmission (sanad) as a distinctive methodological feature of the text. This research employs a qualitative library-based method using hadith content analysis. The findings indicate that the hadiths contained in the Mukhtasar are primarily derived from Sahih al-Bukhari but are presented in a shortened format, often without complete chains of narration. Such simplification reflects a pedagogical orientation aimed at facilitating understanding, memorization, and practical application of Islamic teachings among a broader audience. In terms of substance, the hadiths on basmalah emphasize divine protection and blessings in everyday activities, the hadiths on smiling highlight the importance of social ethics and moral conduct, and the hadiths concerning the Day of Judgment strengthen belief in the afterlife and divine justice. Overall, this study demonstrates that the Mukhtasar of Ibn Abi Jamrah functions not merely as a summary of hadiths but as a didactic work that contributes to the formation of moral character and spiritual awareness through a simplified yet meaningful presentation of prophetic teachings.
