Abstract

This research aimed to find out and describe forms of arguments mostly used by debaters in open grand final both NUDC 2020 and WUDC 2021. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The subjects were 8 debaters selected by a purposive sampling. The instrument of this study was observation checklist adapted from Steven Johnson’s theory. It was supported by a video recording downloaded from YouTube and transcript making from the video has been downloaded. The researchers used descriptive method to analyze the data. The result of this study showed that there were eight models of argument forms from eight debaters in video open grand final NUDC 2021, namely one simple model argument, two chain model arguments, four cluster model arguments, and one complex model argument. Meanwhile, in video open grand final WUDC 2021, there were twelve arguments from eight debaters namely three simple model arguments, one chain model argument, six cluster model arguments, and two complex model arguments. Also, the cluster argument model was the dominant model used in open grand final both NUDC 2020 and WUDC 2021.

Abstract

An Analysis of English Speaking Practice through Online Learning for Students: Practicing English speaking is always necessary for students to communicate globally. In this COVID-19 pandemic, the online learning is the only way for students to still receive the learning process. Students often find the difficulties when studying through online learning, especially when they practice their English speaking. Therefore, the researcher is interested in discussing about the process ofEnglish Speaking Practice through Online Learning, the supporting and obstacling factors. This research would help the lecturers in finding the right methods and teaching techniques, the institution to find and solve the problem and the students to improve their English speaking skills. The researcher will use a descriptive qualitative method. The qualitative research metod is aimed to find the best of an individual point of view and know more about the research in further ways. The researcher will give the quesioner to the respondents and an interview to some of the class representatives.

Abstract

Language politeness is an important element in communication, by paying attention to language politeness, someone is considered to have good character so that what is conveyed can be accepted by the interlocutor. The application of language politeness is very necessary in every speaking activity. This study aims to determine describe the forms of language politeness among teachers and students in English learning activities. This research is included in the type of descriptive qualitative research. So that the data obtained in qualitative form and analyzed descriptively. The method used in this research is the padan pragmatic method by Sudaryanto. The data collection technique used in this research is the technique of with dasar or basic technique in the form of sadap and its lanjutan or advanced technique in the form of simak bebas libat cakap then are continued with rekam or recording and catat or note-taking technique. The results of the analysis show that there is an application or use of language politeness in the teaching and learning process in the English class which is represented in the transactional text English subject for 9th grade at SMP N 1 Pandak.

Abstract

The aims of these research were to know the process of teaching speaking by using trap monopoly game at XI TKJ Grade of Students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Sukoharjo, and to describe the implementation of using trap monopoly game itself.This research conducted by the researcher using qualitative method..The data was collected by virtual observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation. The researcher analyzed the data by interactive model from Miles and Huberman (1984). The result of this research were : First, the process of teaching speaking by using trap monopoly game in teaching speaking. On pandemic of Covid-19, the teacher used virtual learning by zoom meeting application. Second, the implementation of teaching speaking by using trap monopoly game as the learning media on vocabulary, narrative and recount text, procedure text, giving opinion materials.The strenghtness of using the trap monopoly game was helping the teacher in learning activity, more interesting and as the alternative teaching speaking media. Moreover,using of trap monopoly game was helping the students more active and confidence to speak english. The weakness of using trap monopoly game as the teaching media was the teacher must prepare the teaching media previously, E-learning process was less smoothly because the internet signal was bad
