Bioscientist : Jurnal Ilmiah Biologi (BJIB), receiving and publishing article in the form of research (scientific article) in the field of biology education and utilization of biological research in learning. This research uses organic fertilizer that is compost of long bean plant waste applied to sweet corn plant (Zea mays L. saccharata). The purpose of this research is to know the influence of compost of long bean plant waste with different dose to sweet corn production and to know the optimal dose to get the maximum production of sweet corn. The study used a single randomized Randomized Design (RAL) with 4 treatment factors: dose 0 g / plant (D0), 125 g / plant (D1), 250 g / plant (D2) and 375 gr / plant (D3). The data obtained were analyzed by Anova followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% significance level. The results showed that the production on treatment D1, D2 and D3 was lower than D0.

The change of learning paradigm today from teacher centered to student centered has implication to the assessment system (assessment). Assessment not only relies on tests but also refers to performance in the form of authentic assessment and alternative assessment that is better able to dig information holistically about students' ability either affective, cognitive, or psychomotor aspects. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and implement it in the assessment of biology learning process.

Kaempferia galanga L. capability as antibacterial has been proven by the formation of drag zone in some pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and Klebsiella pneumonia by disc-diffusion method. The secondary metabolite content of Kaempferia galanga L., which is efficacious as antibacterial include essential oil, sesquiterpenoid, flavonoid, phenolic or polyfenol compounds and alkaloids. Therefore, it is necessary to do this research to isolate antibacterial compounds from kencur with various solvents such as aquadest with methanol. This research was a laboratory experiment with complete randomized design (RAL) with extract concentration of 50%, 75% and 100% of aquadest solvent with methanol five times repetition. Antibacterial test using agar diffusion method with wells. The inhibit zone formed is tabulated and analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (Anova). It was found that there was a significant difference between the extract with the aquadest solvent and the methanol solvent extract on Salmonella typhimurium growth at a significant level of 5% (Fcount (282.86) > Ftable (2.62)). However the drag zone formed in the weak category is below 15 mm. So it can be concluded that the extract methanol kencur showed weak antibacterial activity seen from the increase in diameter of inhibit zone of Salmonella typhimurium bacteria significantly along with increasing the concentration of methanol extract of kencur rhizome but not on the extract of aquadest Kaempferia galanga L. kale rhizome.

Gaharu is a product of Non Timber Forest which is very potential and high economic value in West Nusa Tenggara Province. Lombok Island is one of the gaharu producing areas in Indonesia and is a growing place of endemic gaharu commercial species such as Gyrinops versteegii. Local people call it "Cucumber". So far, gaharu farmers only use gaharu trees only to be sold to gaharu exporters. However, in fact gaharu leaves can be processed into a product that has a good economic value, which is made into tea. Gaharu leaf tea is believed to have efficacy for the drinker. Gaharu leaf tea is usually made from leaves or young shoots of gaharu trees that have not been inoculated. While the gaharu leaves tea production from inoculated trees has not been done. Thus the purpose of this research is to optimize the utilization of agarwood leaf that has been inoculated as a tea-making material, so it can produce gaharu leaf tea with good quality without loss of taste, aroma, and its benefits. Types This research is experimental through laboratory test including water content test and extract level with gravimetric method. The material used as the assessment is Gaharu alpha leaves of Gyrinops versteegii taken directly from the gaharu farmer's garden on Lombok island.

This research was conducted to increase students' science literacy. Specific objectives can be specified in detail: 1) describing the feasibility of integrative thematic worksheets of integrated science subjects developed; 2) measuring students' science literacy abilities after completion of the Integrated IPA learning by using thematic-integrative worksheet materials; and 3) to describe students' responses to integrated IPA learning by using thematic-integrative worksheet materials. The teaching materials produced in the form of thematic-integrative worksheets as supporting learning process that can cultivate science literacy science ability. The thematic-integrative worksheets that have been developed meet the criteria of validity and according to the expert and the results of the experiments show that the thematic-integrative worksheet material can support effective learning. The validity level of all learning devices used is in a valid category and is appropriate for use. The results of the first trial showed that the students' science literacy skills in the first trial scored an average of 79.2 and for the second trial got an average of 82.2 with a very high category. Based on the results of the analysis it was found that the thematic-integrative worksheets developed can develop students' science literacy and deserve to be used.

The purpose of this research is to improve motivation, activity, learning achievement, and student's response to ACE cycle implementation (Activities, Class discussion, Exercises) through cooperative learning model of think pair share type. This Research Type is Classroom Action Research (PTK), conducted in semester Vc Biology Education Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education IKIP Mataram Academic Year 2010/2011. The study was designed in three cycles, with activities in each cycle being planning, execution, observation and reflection. The data collected is data about motivation, activity, achievement learn, and student response semester Vc Biology Education Program. The result of data analysis shows that there is an increase on the average of motivation in cycle I of 33 with criteria classified enough to be average 42 with high criterion. For activity also experienced an increase that is on cycle I mean 12 with enough active criterion and in cycle II increased to 15 with active criterion. For student achievement in cycle I average 64 category is enough and in cycle II 71 with good category. For students' responses to the applied learning strategies the average class gets a positive assessment. Based on the results of the research can be concluded that the implementation of ACE cycle through cooperative learning model type think pair share can improve the quality of lectures of development of biology learning program (P3 Biology).

NPK nutrient elements are essential nutrients that are needed by plants to meet the needs of plant growth. The purpose of this study was to find out how the content of NPK elements in organic compost of mushroom waste with dregs activator know. The type of this research is experimental research that is kind of systematic, logical, and meticulous research in controlling the condition. The results of this study indicate that the compost control with compost treatment of the average yield of NPK has exceeded the minimum standard of SNI of compost fertilizer, with the average number of control elements N = 4.67%, P = 2.92%, and K = 5.13%. In the 10:50 N treatment it reached an average of 3.03%, P reached an average of 2.83%, and K reached an average of 3.29%. At 30:50 N treatment reached 3.50%, P reached an average of 2.98%, and K reached an average of 3.67%. While the 50:50 N treatment reached an average of 1.87%, P reached an average of 2.18%, and K reached an average of 3.19%. Of the three treatments on organic compost of mushroom waste with the activator of tofu waste can be seen that the highest average amount of NPK element is at treatment of 30:50, and the lowest is at 50:50 treatment. It can be concluded that there is no significant difference of NPK element content in organic compost of mushroom waste with dregs activator know in each treatment.

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Inquiry-Based Media Poster (MPBI) with the cooperative strategies to improve rational thinking skills junior high school students. This study classified the type of quasi-experimental study (quasi-experimental research) with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design ( 2x2x2 factorial ). The research instrument shaped test of rational thinking skills of students, in the form of a multiple choice test with every answer on the grounds. The data were analyzed by using SPSS Anacova technique 18 for Windows. The results showed that: 1) rational thinking skills that students learn to use MPBI and students learn to use drawing media different significantly; 2) rational thinking skills students learn through STAD cooperative strategies and student learning through NHT types did not different significantly; and 3) interaction between MPBI, cooperative strategy ( STAD and NHT ), and academic ability does not significantly affect rational thinking skills of students.

This study was conducted with the aim to inventory the name, way of making, and how the use of medicinal plants that are traditionally used by the people of West Lombok Regency from generation to generation. This research is descriptive research using qualitative approach with stages include observation of research object, direct interview with respondent, and documentation of name, way of making and use of medicinal plants. The results of this study indicate that in general the community Sasak West Lombok regency uses about 76 types of plants to treat various diseases, but of all types of plants there are some plants that are not used in general throughout the district of West Lombok but specifically used in certain places only.

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Thinking Poverty through Question (PBMP) Model with Think Pair Share (TPS) model of learning activities, critical thinking skills, and cognitive learning outcomes of students in biology learning evaluation courses. The design used in this study was Pretest-Postest Nonequivalent Control Group Design and the resulting data were analyzed using covariance analysis (Anakova). Based on the research data, it is known that: 1) the application of PBMP with cooperative learning model of TPS is more effective to improve student learning activity compared to learning by lecturing; 2) there is a significant effect on the application of PBMP with the TPS learning model to students' critical thinking skills, since Fhitung is 41.18 and the significance of 0.000, smaller than alpha 0.05; and 3) there is a significant effect of PBMP implementation with cooperative learning model of TPS on cognitive learning outcomes, because Fcount is 384.09 and significance 0.000, smaller than alpha 0.05.
