Abstract

Blood transfusion is the process of transferring blood from donors to recipients. Before there is a blood demand for transfusion then the blood will be stored in the refrigerator. The longer the blood is stored the more red blood cells are destroyed because the blood is stored for too long will experience a shift curvadisosiasi oxygen towards the left. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of blood storage on hemoglobin levels on whole blood donor components before and after being stored for one week of Indonesian Red Cross Medan. This research was conducted with descriptive methodology Hematology Analyzer, The sample used for this study was the donor blood of 30 volunteer donors. The results showed that the mean hemoglobin level of blood before storage was 14.2 g/dL and the mean hemoglobin level of blood after being stored for one week was 16,4 g/dL.It is advisable to the laboratory staff to immediately conduct an examination after sampling so that no difference in yield and donor blood should be transfused immediately to the patient. there is a difference in blood tests immediately and stored for one week on hemoglobin levels It is advisable to the next researcher to use a larger number of samples so that the results obtained are more representative.

Abstract

Mountain springs is a source of clean water that is commonly used by rural communities to fulfil their daily water needs such as washing, bathing and cooking. The lack of clean water facilities in Indonesia is a problem that has not been resolved to date. The habits of the people in Tanjung Tulungagung Village is using mountain spring water for consumption as drinking water without boiling it first. Unboiled water has a tendency to be polluted by microbes, one of which is the coliform group. Coliform bacteria was known to cause several diseases, such as diarrhea, dysentery and cholera. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of water by observing the growth of coliform bacteria in mountain water that consumed by residents in Tanjung Village, Sendang Tulungagung District. The method used in this study is the Most Probable Number (MPN). The results of this study showed that the number of Coliform contained in repeat samples 1, 2, 3 & 4 respectively, were 900, 1600, 1600, 1600 MPN/100 ml, then the data was compared with the SNI issued by the National Standardization Agency. Based on SNI 3719:2014, the requirements for the Most Likely Number (APM) for drinking water are not more than <2/100 ml. The conclusion from this study is that the water used by the people of Tanjung Village, Sendang District, Tulungagung Regency is not suitable for direct consumption without being processed first.

Abstract

Female Sex Workers are one of the high risk group of sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis caused by Treponema pallidum. Treponema pallidum Haemagglutination Assay and Treponema pallidum Rapid (TP-Rapid) examinations are used to detect specific antibodies against Treponema pallidum, which is called the treponema test. This research aimed to determine the difference between the result of TP-Rapid and TPHA examinations in the Female Sex Workers in Bandung. This method of research is descriptive. This research starting with observations on female sex workers, the samples were examined by TP-Rapid immunochromatography method and TPHA hemagglutination method and the results of TP-Rapid examination were compared with the results of TPHA examination. The results of TP-Rapid examination obtained 7% reactive samples and 93% non-reactive sample The results of the TPHA examination obtained 33% reactive samples and 67% non-reactive samples. The reactive results on the TP-Rapid and TPHA examinations showed a difference of 26%. The conclusion of the study is that there are differences in the results of syphilis examination using the TP-Rapid and TPHA methods with p value=0,038.

Abstract

Candida albicans is a fungus that lives as normal flora in certain parts of the human body which can instantly become pathogenic if the patient experiences changes or decreases in body resistance. One of the diagnoses for the Candida albicans fungus is culturing, namely isolating it on gowth media such as Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA), but in some areas, it is difficult to use this medium because the price is quite expensive. Jackfruit seeds contain many nutrients needed by fungi such as protein, carbohydrates, and other minerals so that they can gow the Candida albicans fungus, this study aims to determine the difference in the number of Candida albicans colonies on SDA media and jackfruit seed modification media. The research method used a pure experiment. This research was conducted at the microbiology laboratory of the IKesT Muhammadiyah Palembang with a total of 32 samples. The results showed that the average number of colonies of Candida albicans on SDA was 112 CFU/mL media and jackfruit seed modified media 156 CFU/mL. Wilcoxon test obtained a p-value of 0.05 with a value of 0.000. This study concludes that there were differences between SDA media and jackfruit seed modification media.

Abstract

The growth of microorganisms requires media as a material consisting of a mixture of nutrients. used to grow microbes This study is laboratory experiment that aims to determine the protein composition on an old coconut water which is used as an alternative Mac Conkey Agar that can be used for growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi to characterized by non fermenter lactose and fermenter lactose colony. Research method is experimental test using inoculated on alternative media and Mac Conkey Agar as a control. Old coconut water media composition composed resemble for Mac Conkey Agar and media control that the order for Mac Conkey Agar. The bacterium is Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi as test bacteria fermenter non fermenter lactose and lactose. Analysis of data using T test results showed an old coconut water alternative media can foster better Escherichia coli when compared to Salmonella typhi, because there is no difference in the number and diameter of colonies significantly to media controls.  In the alternative media do not growth old coconut water Salmonella typhi the same controls. Based on the results of the research can be concluded that Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi can grow on alternative media of Old Coconut Water.
