The journal invites original research articles and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The whole spectrum of research in mathematics education are welcome, which includes, but is not limited to the following topics: Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) is a teaching and learning theory in mathematics education that was first introduced and developed by Freudenthal. Two of his important points of views are mathematics must be connected to reality and mathematics as human activity. RME is implemented following three principles, they are: (1) guided reinvention and progressive mathematizing, (2) didactical phenomenology, and (3) self-developed model. Furthermore, the practice of RME also has its own characteristics, they are: (1) phenomenological exploration or the use of contexts, (2) the use of models or bridging by vertical instruments, (3) the use of students own productions and constructions or students contribution, (4) the interactive character of the teaching process or interactivity, and (5) the intertwining of various learning strands. A paper is eligible to be included in this topic if the paper accommodates these three principles and these five characteristics. Design Research in Mathematics Education Educational design research is perceived as the systematic study of designing, developing and evaluating educational interventions (programs, teaching-learning strategies and materials, products, systems) as solutions to such problems. It also aims at advancing our knowledge about the characteristics of these interventions and the processes to design and develop them. Authors could submit their work, either a validation study or a development study in mathematics education, with a comprehensive description and analysis of every stage. Mathematics Ability Mathematics ability refers to the ability (a human construct) to obtain, to process, and to retain mathematical information (cognitive) and to solve mathematics problem (pragmatic). To maintain the focus of this journal, the scope of mathematics ability includes the following abilities: reasoning, connection, communication, representation, and problem-solving. A paper is eligible for this topic if it comprehensively discusses those abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' creative thinking skills through the Peer Lesson strategy in Mathematics learning for class VII students of MTs Darul Ulum Muhammadiyah Galur in the 2023/2024 academic year. This study uses a classroom action research method with two cycles. The subjects of this study were 14 class VII students at MTs Darul Ulum Muhammadiyah Galur, Kulon Progo Regency. The object of this study is critical thinking skills. Data were collected through test and non-test techniques, such as classroom observation and students interviews. The results of the study showed that the results of learning mathematics on the set material, class VII students who were taught using the active learning strategy of the peer lesson type were better than without using the active learning strategy of the peer lesson type at MTs Darul Ulum Muhammadiyah Galur. This is evidenced by the results in cycle 1 to cycle 2 increasing significantly.

Abstract

Based on the results of interviews before the research, it showed that students' mathematical communication skills were still weak. For example, in square material, students cannot convey their arguments well, even though the ideas and concepts are already in their heads. Apart from that, students have difficulty interpreting assignments in the form of pictures, and students' ability to solve story problems is still weak, they have difficulty translating problem sentences into mathematical models and solving them according to the storyline. Meanwhile, square material is closely related to everyday life, therefore most of the questions are in the form of stories. This research is field research with a posttest only control design. The population of this study were all class VII students at SMPN 2 Ceper, Klaten Regency, consisting of seven classes with a total of 224 students. Cluster random sampling. Used for sampling. Based on sampling, it is known that class VIIA is the research experimental class (PBL Model) and class VIIB is the control class (Conventional Learning Model). Data collection methods include interviews, documentation and tests. Data analysis includes preliminary analysis, test instrument analysis, and final stage analysis. After the hypothesis is tested, the researcher uses the right-sided measured difference test (t-test). Based on the t test calculation and the significance level, the value obtained because H0 is rejected. This means that the average mathematical communication ability of the experimental class (using the PBL model) is better than the average mathematical communication ability of the control class. From this description it can be concluded that the problem-based learning (PBL) model is effective for students' mathematical communication skills on the main material of quadrilaterals in the even semester of class VII SMPN 2 Ceper in the 2023/2024 academic year.
