Abstract

Background: Writing as medium of communications has become the pivotal accomplishments of language learning objectives. It still becomes the challenging part especially for learners who come from non-English speaking country. Their hindrances to elaborate the sentences, lack vocabularies and use the right words in their essay make the essay difficult to understand. Purpose: Therefore, the significance of the research is to identify the readability level of student’s essay written by grade eight learners under Cambridge curriculum. Design and methods: This readability is to define which level of readers is suitable to read the text and who will understand it. Then, one of the elements in analyzing the level of readability is the number of complex words the texts. Therefore, there are about 13 students’ essays were examined using Flesh-Kincaid Ease Formula and SMOG index. Results: The result found out the they have diverse readability level in between 7th grade to college level. By these results as well, it appears the number of complex words used in their essay which then being described of what kinds of complex sentences used in their essays.

Abstract

Background:  Culturally, language is a one of the cultural elements of a society. Therefore, it is stated that language is a manifestation of the identity of the speaker community. By expressing or explaining something, researchers communicate using different points of view and ways. In the era of globalization, the view of life and modern human interaction has undergone rapid and dynamic changes so that local languages ​​are starting to be forgotten in their use because they are considered obsolete and tacky. The younger generation in urban and rural areas likes to use urban slang in their daily routine interactions. Purpose: This study aims to preserve the smooth Javanese language in daily life. Design and methods: Researchers used qualitative phenomenology method in this study to find social facts in the community. The data are gathered using documentary acquisition techniques by observation and in the form of a qualitative descriptive design. The researcher made a documentary film about efforts to maintain regional languages ​​in social life using shooting methods consisting of Development procedures, Pre-Production procedures, Production procedures, Post Production procedures, and Distribution procedures. Results: The results that the researchers produced Bahasaku documentary film containing efforts to maintain local languages ​​in social life and uploaded them on social media YouTube. This is because YouTube is a social media that is currently easily accessible and has many users.

Abstract

Background: Songs have long been popular literary works for learning English. One way is by paying attention to figurative language used in songs popular among EFL learners. Purpose: This study was aimed at identifying the types of figurative language used in songs recently popular among Indonesian youth. Design and methods: The data were purposively collected from a sample of three songs of a famous album. The data were qualitatively analysed by using Gorys Keraf’s theory. Results: Finally, it is recommended that types of figurative language need to be taught to and learned by EFL learners to help enhance their comprehension when dealing with popular literary works like songs.

Abstract

Background: This research is raised due to the problems of students who experience limitations in storytelling skills in Indonesian language lessons. This is due to the lack of concentration in the learning process because the learning methods and media used are less varied so that the ability to master the storytelling skills of students is low. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of image media on storytelling mastery in Indonesian language subjects for grade 1 students. Design and methods: This research was a quantitative experimental research, which was carried out at MI Al Mubarokah Cileungsi-Bogor. The form of experiment in this research is Post-test Only Control Group Design. The data collection technique that the author uses is in the form of observation and documentation. The subjects in this study were students of class 1 MI Al-Mubarokah, which consisted of 20 students who were divided into 2 groups, namely 10 students as the experimental class and 10 other students as the control group. Results: From the research results were analyzed using statistical analysis techniques. the p value is shown .000 < .05 that is indicated there is difference between the data mean of experiment and control class. Mean rank of experiment class is 27.05 while mean rank of control class is 13.95. it means the experiment class has higher mean than control. With this calculation the hypothesis can be concluded that picture media is improving the Indonesian story telling ability of the students. Then the application of image media is effective in improving storytelling skills in Indonesian subjects for class 1 students of MI Al Mubarokah Academic Year 2021/2022.

Abstract

Background: The animated cartoon film Nussa and Rarra is an animated film that displays daily stories in the world of children, Rarra is a little girl who is very cheerful and likes to play while Nussa is an older sister who loves her sister, Rarra. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the formation of Islamic characters contained in the Nussa and Rarra Animations for students. Design and methods: This research was conducted using a qualitative approach to content analysis methods with descriptive analysis techniques. The data source used is the document in the form of Nussa and Rarra YouTube videos through the Nussa Official YouTube account. Results: The results of the study revealed that in the Nussa Official youtube films there were Islamic character values ​​such as honest behavior, speaking well and politely, worshiping according to the religion adopted, sincere and not being arrogant and arrogant towards others. Meanwhile, Islamic character values ​​that have not yet emerged are such as giving alms, helping others regardless of religion, spreading kindness and guarding words and deeds.
