Abstract

Religious moderation appears to be frequently promoted in the context of a peaceful and nonviolent society. However, global challenges such as armed conflict and genocide in Palestine, for example, prompt the author to investigate whether the values of religious moderation (as a continuation of Islamic wasaṭiyyah or moderation) can help maintain world peace or have no influence and prestige in the face of global community. This article will investigate and re-interpret the arguments for religious moderation from the perspective of Qirā’ah Mubādalah. Mubādalah, which means ‘mutuality,’ upholds the principle of interpreting the text by presenting parties or, “...genders (which are) not mentioned in the text.” The idea is to avoid bias in interpretation due to differences in perspectives. This study uses Toshihiko Isutzu’s ‘semantic network’ theory to identify key vocabulary, including wasaṭ, the root word s-l-m and ṣulh, the attitude of doing good in the word ta̒āwun, as well as synonyms, antonyms, and an in-depth study of all key vocabulary. The results indicate that the spirit of religious moderation should not stop at the rhetorical and theoretical dialogue. Religious moderation needs to be more active, solution-oriented, and responsive to the evolution of human interactions on a regional and global scale, as well as actively responding to world imbalances through real-world actions that threaten Muslims’ existence. We have the right to actively take the initiative, both psychologically and physically, to ensure the long-term well-being of the balance of human life.

Abstract

There are some mufasir who argue that tasbih is only done by living creatures. However, this opinion is not in accordance with the Qur'an surah Al-Isra' verse 44 which suggests that everything tasbih to Him. Zaghlul al-Najjār interpreted the Qur'an surah Al-Isra' verse 44 in his book Tafsĭr al-Āyat al-Kauniyyah fĭ al-Qur'ān al-Karĭm explaining that tasbih is carried out by objects live and die with a comprehensive discussion of science compared to other commentators. The focus of the problem is how to interpret Zaghlul al-Najjār's atomic beads and their relevance to modern science. This research will complement the discussion of previous research on atomic prayer beads. This research method applies descriptive analysis and content analysis which thoroughly explores the content that needs to be investigated in the entire text. In Zaghlul al-Najjār's interpretation of atomic prayer beads there are many similarities and few differences with contemporary scientific theory. This is an implication of Zaghlul al-Najjār, who is one of the contemporary scientific commentators.

Abstract

This article examines the tradition of Qolbul Al-Qur'an recitation at Majlis Mistiqbigh in Seduri, Wonodadi, Blitar, regularly practiced as an act of worship to strengthen the congregation’s connection to Allah SWT and as an expression of religious identity. Academically, it addresses the need for in-depth study on the preservation and transmission of Quran-based traditions as living cultural practices. The study aims to understand the meanings embedded in Qolbul Al-Qur'an recitation and its spiritual impact on the community. Using the Living Quran approach and Karl Mannheim's theory, the study explores three dimensions of meaning: objective, expressive, and documentary. The findings reveal that the objective meaning of this tradition is to foster the spiritual growth of the Seduri, Wonodadi, and Blitar communities, nurturing a deep reverence for the Qur'an. The expressive dimension reflects the congregation’s belief in the blessings and virtues of Qur'anic recitation, while the documentary meaning underscores the tradition’s roots and continuity in the community. In conclusion, the Qolbul Al-Qur'an recitation is not only a spiritual practice but also a foundational element shaping the religious and cultural identity of the local society, ensuring the community’s enduring connection to the Qur'an.

Abstract

This article discusses the influence of patriarchal culture on Tafsir Firdaus Al-Na'im by Thaifur Ali Wafa, who specifically analyzes the interpretation of gender verses. This research shows that the interpretation of Thaifur Ali Wafa still maintains the patriarchal element which states that a man is the leader of the family with greater responsibilities and rights than a woman. The background concludes that Tafsir Firdaus Al-Na'im still contains strong patriarchal elements because it is influenced by socio-cultural norms of Patriarchy using Classical Tafsir reference sources as well as traditional views on gender relations in Islam accompanied by an emphasis on ethics and responsibility. This research aims at how Tafsir Firdaus Al-Na'im answers contemporary issues occurring in the surrounding community. The research method used is a qualitative method or literature with a descriptive approach by collecting data from two types, namely primary data and secondary data.

Abstract

This research examines the term jihad from Wahbah al-Zuhayli's perspective in Tafsīr al-Munīr focusing on Al-Qur’ān Sūrah al-‘Ankabūt [29]: 69. The main background explains the problem of jihad in the modern era in dimensions of the school that reflect the interests of power with acts of radicalism and terrorism. This concept is closed, because it still uses the definition of jihad in the era of the Prophet Muhammad. who tend to prioritize physical attitude. Meanwhile, Tafsīr al-Munīr occupies the most appropriate position for taking formal objects, of course due to the theoretical and practical nature of interpreting the verses of the Qur'an. So this research formulates the problem of how the term of jihad is in the Al-Qur'an and Tafsīr al-Munīr's perspective on the term of jihad. The results of this research are divided into two conclusions. First, the term of jihad in the Koran is divided into the Makkiyah and Madaniyah periods. Jihad in the Makkiyah period emphasized self-defense through a persuasive attitude. Meanwhile, jihad in the Madaniyah period emphasized self-defense through physical behavior. Second, the internalization of faith in the oneness of God, the implications of human spiritual attitudes, and human rūḥiyyah behavior, are all concepts of jihad in the perspective of Tafsīr al-Munīr which focuses on the study of Al-Qur’ān Sūrah al-‘Ankabūt [29]: 69.
