Abstract

The paper presents experimental results obtained in the process of experimental manufacture in a microwave oven of lightweight granulated glass aggregates. The process was conducted to obtain the highest dimensional class (between 18-23 mm), the almost spherical shape of the aggregates being facilitated by cold processing of raw spherical pellets (between 11-15 mm) containing the powder mixture formed by glass waste, borax. calcium carbonate, aqueous sodium silicate solution and water addition and then rotation of the high electromagnetic wave susceptible ceramic crucible containing raw pellets during the heat treatment at temperatures between 822-835 ºC. In terms of quality, the expanded glass aggregate granules are almost similar to those manufactured in conventional rotary kilns heated by burning fuel, having the following characteristics: bulk density of 0.17 g/cm3, compressive strength of 2.2 MPa, thermal conductivity of 0.047 W/m·K, water absorption of 1 vol. % and pore size between 0.3-0.6 mm. The experimental product has not yet been tested as a raw material in the manufacture of some light weight concretes, but the use of similar granulated glass aggregates manufactured in the world confirms the ability of this aggregate type to produce light weight and energy efficient concretes for building construction.

Abstract

The paper presents an improved method of manufacturing cellular glass using residual glass (91 %), sodium borate (5 %), eggshell waste (4 %) and added water (9 %). Compared to methods using eggshell as an expanding agent producing cellular glass with low compression strength, the technique adopted by the authors is original by the addition of sodium borate, which contributes to increasing the compression strength and the use of the unconventional electromagnetic wave heating method, which ensures very economical specific energy consumption. The optimal variant of cellular glass had the following characteristics: density of 0.40 g/cm3, porosity of 81 %, heat conductivity of 0.086 W/m·K, compression strength of 4.3 MPa and the cell dimension between 0.3-0.9 mm. The specific energy consumption of the process was 0.80 kWh/kg. The product has adequate features for using as a heat insulation material under conditions of quite high mechanical loading.

Abstract

The results obtained from the validation of the procedure ‟Quantification of the degradation index of Photovoltaic Grid Connection Systems” are presented, using statistical parameters, which corroborate its accuracy, achieving a coefficient of determination of 0.9896, a percentage of the root of the mean square of the error RMSPE = 1.498% and a percentage of the mean absolute error MAPE = 1.15%, evidencing the precision of the procedure.

Traditional Ghanaian furniture designs are known as an exhibition of the splendor and elegance of decorative objects or decorative ornaments that carry profound philosophical and sacred meanings. The features found in Ghana’s traditional Ghanaian design can be considered as objects for international players, with their own identity and not found elsewhere. This paper therefore seeks to identify and illuminate some of these Akan cultural objects in Ghana by referring to the Ashanti region. This paper also shows with examples how these design elements can be developed and maintained by integrating them into modern furniture and interior designs or as a straightforward or adaptive design.

Abstract

Improving the original manufacturing process in microwave field of a cellular glass aggregate using a recipe containing colored consumed drinking bottle, calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as an expanding agent, sodium borate (borax) as a fluxing agent and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) as a binder is shown in the work. The main adopted technological measures were the advanced mechanical processing of residual glass at a grain dimension below 100 μm and especially the use of a high electromagnetic wave susceptible ceramic tube with a wall thickness reduced from 3.5 to 2.5 mm for the protection of the pressed glass-based mixture against the aggressive effect of microwave field and, in the same time, to achieve a preponderantly direct heating with electromagnetic waves. Of the tested variants, a recipe with 1.6 % calcium carbonate, 6 % borax, 8 % sodium silicate and the rest residual glass was determined to be optimal. The cellular glass aggregate had the bulk density of 0.22 g/cm3, heat conductivity of 0.079 W/m·K and compression strength of 5.9 MPa. The specific consumption of energy was very low (0.71 kWh/kg) below the range of reported values of the industrial processes consumption (between 0.74-1.15 kWh/kg).

Abstract

VANET deployment and testing is time-consuming and costly. Simulation is a handy and less expensive alternative to real implementation as a workaround. It is required to develop accurate models in order to receive excellent results from a VANET simulation, which difficult operation owes to the complexity of the VANET infrastructure (for example, simulators have to model the navigation models and communication protocols). The network and navigation components, which are the building blocks of contemporary VANET simulators, are described in this section. Simulators are a useful tool for testing VANETs at a minimal cost and without endangering users. However, in order to be helpful and convey trustworthy findings, simulators must be able to simulate new technologies that enter the VANET and enable safety and security procedures. To put it another way, if simulation is a good tool for VANET development it should be enhanced. VANET simulators have been the subject of research since early 2010 [1-4]. They analyze the correctness of VANET's numerous tools like a navigation simulator and network simulator, as well as how these building blocks are connected. The introduction of new network technologies such as 5G, SDN, edge computing, and VANET research as a result of investments in autonomous cars is forcing VANET simulators to re-evaluate their support for these new capabilities. We present an updated evaluation of VANET simulators in this post, highlighting their key features and current support for emerging technologies.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the properties of an AC-BC concrete asphalt mixture with additional Styrofoam waste to bitumen. This study was conducted fully at the State University of Makassar's Laboratory of Materials Testing. The amount of Styrofoam utilized in this investigation was 6 percent, 8 percent, 10 percent, and 12 percent of the total weight of KAO asphalt (Optimum Asphalt Weight). This study used a total of 15 specimens, with 5 being used to determine KAO and 12 being used following KAO. The Marshall method was utilized, which involved immersing the test object in a water bath at 60 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. Density, stability, flow, Marshall Quotient (MQ), VIM, VFA, and VMA were all determined using the Marshall test. The General Bina Marga 2018 specification revision 3 was utilized as a guideline. The findings of this investigation show that the asphalt penetration value falls as styrofoam material increases. Stability values in the additions of 6 percent and 8 percent, MQ values at 6 percent, VIM 12 percent, and VFA 6 percent do not satisfy criteria, while density values, flow, and VMA in all variations of styrofoam addition meet the General Bina Marga specifications in 2018 refisi 3. Based on the results of the Marshall test with an Optimal Asphalt Content (KAO) of 5.7 percent, this research suggests that a percentage substitution of 10% can be employed to get positive outcomes.

Abstract

In the monitoring mode, signals averaged over 1 minute were recorded in four one-third octave bands: 30, 160, 500 and 1200 Hz. Sometimes, audio signals were recorded using a computer sound card. These signals had varied and surprising forms, but there was no technical capability to record them in monitoring mode. This opportunity appeared in California in 2015. In the period from 2015 to 2017, in the SAFOD pilot well in California at a depth of 1000 m with coordinates 35.974257 N, -120.552076 W, seismological surveys were carried out for the first time using the innovative MIG-3V geophone with a wide band in the infrasonic and sound frequency ranges and in the amplitude range of more than 240 dB. In August 2016, a similar geophone for the same purpose was installed in the VGS well with coordinates 56.967017 N, 43.720605 E to a depth of 1400 m. Digital data in the automatic monitoring mode was recorded continuously every 0.1 ms. Analysis of the data obtained in the SAFOD well (more than 4 TB) showed that, along with seismic signals, there are acoustic traces in the data, which have never been observed in the wells before. Similar tracks were observed in the VGS well. Acoustic trails similar in shape and frequency are observed in the aquatic environment of lakes and Oceans when searching for acoustic trails from high-energy cosmic particles, in particular, with the help of acoustic neutrino detectors.
