Abstract

Penyabangan Village, particularly the Gondol Beach area, possesses significant potential for developing marine tourism that integrates fishery activities with maritime tourism. However, marine debris poses a serious challenge that could threaten the sustainable development of this area. Educational programs and beach cleaning actions were implemented as efforts to raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining coastal environmental cleanliness in supporting sustainable marine tourism development. This activity is a collaboration between the Community Service Program team from the University of Mataram and the Marine Aquaculture, Fisheries and Extension Research Center (BBRBLPP) Gondol, conducted on November 13, 2024. The program adopted a participatory approach through three stages: preparation, education, and beach cleaning action. The results showed an increase in public awareness, reflected in the high participation in beach cleaning activities and the formation of local initiatives to maintain beach cleanliness sustainably. The success of this program provides a foundation for developing the concept of marine tourism that integrates aquaculture potential with maritime tourism, while supporting the economic diversification of coastal communities through the sustainable tourism sector.

Abstract

Pecaron Hamlet, Klatakan Village, is located in Kendit District, Situbondo Regency, East Java, and is one of the areas rich in natural resource potential, including the fisheries and agricultural sectors. The capture fisheries and aquaculture sectors are advantages, however, there are still shortcomings in utilizing existing potential, then there is still a lack of interest from the community, especially children, to consume processed fish which is feared to have an impact on the fulfillment of children's nutrition which is less than optimal. Therefore, in an effort to increase the existing fisheries potential and the interest of the community in all circles, especially early childhood, adolescents to adults to start liking or being fond of consuming fish, especially in the Pecaron hamlet environment, Situbondo, East Java, with the KKN Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Universitas Mataram activity, it is hoped that it will be able to achieve this through the implementation of the Fish Eating Movement Socialization program and other programs that have been agreed upon with the village. The interest in eating fish of children at SDN 4 Klatakan is quite high, but there are indeed some students who do not like it because of the lack of creative processed fishery products consumed, this can be seen based on the enthusiasm shown when given nuggets made from 100% fish from participants who like it, so in increasing GEMARIKAN this can be done by all parties by continuing to develop creative processed fish that are attractive to children, one of which is fish nuggets.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of the coastal environment, both ecologically and economically. However, overexploitation and a lack of public understanding have led to the degradation of mangrove ecosystems in various coastal areas, including in Baka Jaya Village, Woja District, Dompu Regency. This community service activity aims to enhance public understanding of the ecological functions of mangroves and provide education on the importance of mangrove conservation for environmental sustainability and the well-being of coastal communities. The methods used include lectures and interactive discussions with the community. Evaluation results indicate an increase in public understanding of the ecological functions of mangroves and a rise in community participation in conservation efforts. This activity is expected to contribute to the sustainable preservation of the mangrove ecosystem.
