Abstract

The UD Wahyu Asih Fiberglass community shipyard has produced various types of FRP ships; however, the manufacturing process does not adhere to the construction standards set by the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI) and still relies on the independent experience of the business owner. Additionally, this shipyard lacks scientific evidence regarding the strength of the FRP ship hull structures it produces. This study aims to describe the stages of ship construction and the materials used, as well as determine the value of material strength through tensile tests, compressive tests, and the elastic modulus of the FRP ship hull structure. Data collection was conducted through literature studies, field observations, specimen creation, and mechanical property testing of materials, and then analyzed using a descriptive-comparative approach. The results of the study showed that the materials used in the manufacture of FRP ships include Yukalac 235 resin, Yukalac G-123 T-EX gelcoat, CSM300, WR600, WR800 fibers, and additives such as Mepoxe catalyst, cobalt napthanate, pyrogenic silica, talc, Matapel Unipol dye, miracle gloss, kerosene, ivory rubbing compound, and kit (compound). The ship construction process was carried out in two main stages: lamination and finishing, utilizing hand lay-up techniques. Although the tensile strength value has met the minimum BKI standard, the compressive strength and elastic modulus values ​​obtained are still below the limits set by BKI. Based on the results of this study, ships built at the UD Wahyu Asih Fiberglass shipyard can be recommended to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for the procurement of aid ships, provided that their tensile strength and elastic modulus are improved.

Abstract

The coastal region of East Sumba Regency possesses significant natural resources with high productivity, including both renewable and non-renewable resources. Renewable coastal ecosystems such as mangroves, coral reefs, seagrass beds, and fisheries play an important role in supporting local livelihoods while offering strong potential for marine ecotourism development. Several coastal areas, including Londa Lima Beach, Walakiri Beach, Tapil Beach, Puru Kambera Beach, and Wanga Beach, exhibit diverse physical and social characteristics that can support ecotourism activities. This study aims to assess the sustainability of coastal resource utilization in East Sumba Regency by evaluating the suitability of marine ecotourism development through the integration of ecological, economic, social, cultural, and institutional dimensions. A quantitative approach was employed using a scoring-based method derived from field surveys, data processing, and descriptive analysis. The analysis applies several physical parameters, including beach type, coastline length, seabed material, current velocity, hazardous biota, land cover, and freshwater availability. Social aspects are assessed using the 4A tourism framework: attraction, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services. The results provide insights to support sustainable marine ecotourism development in East Sumba Regency. The result shows that The Tourism Suitability Index (TSI) for Tapil Beach is 1.15, Wanga Beach with a score of 1.41, Walakiri Beach is 2.09, Puru Kambera  Beach with a score of 1.38,  and Londa Lima Beach with a score of 2.0. Based on the TSI analysis, the Walakiri Beach and Londa Lima Beach are suitable locations for beach-based ecotourism development

Abstract

The aquaculture sector in Indonesia faces significant challenges due to the reduction of productive land and the degradation of surface water quality. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of transforming conventional earthen pond cultivation systems into Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) through a comprehensive analysis of land and water use efficiency. The method employed is a quantitative and qualitative descriptive approach via systematic literature review (SLR), adapting the PRISMA guidelines. Secondary data were extracted from 10 primary scientific articles published between 2016 and 2026. The results indicate that RAS technology enables extreme intensification of stocking density up to 2,000 fish/m³, significantly outperforming conventional earthen ponds (±100 fish/m³). The filtration system in RAS is proven to maintain optimal water quality stability, with very low ammonia levels (<0.01 mg/L) and high dissolved oxygen (6.0–7.2 mg/L). These conditions drive the Specific Growth Rate (SGR) to reach 2.68% and optimize the Food Conversion Ratio (FCR) to 1.08. Economically, despite high initial capital expenditure, RAS demonstrates long-term feasibility with a Payback Period of less than 4 years at an optimal commercial scale. In conclusion, the transformation to RAS technology is a strategic solution that offers superior technical, biological, and economic benefits, while ensuring ecosystem sustainability through a zero-waste concept.

Abstract

The Makassar Strait is one of Indonesia’s productive fishing grounds and serves as an important operational area for FAD-associated purse seine fisheries. The productivity of pelagic fisheries in this region is influenced by the use of fish aggregating devices (FADs) and oceanographic conditions that affect fish distribution and abundance. This study aimed to analyze catch composition, estimate fishing productivity using Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE), and examine its relationship with oceanographic parameters in the Makassar Strait. The research was conducted from September to November 2025 at the Lero Fish Landing Base (PPI Lero), Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi. Primary data were collected through field observations, catch recording, fishing-trip monitoring, and fishing ground. Oceanographic data, including sea surface temperature (SST), chlorophyll-a, salinity, and current velocity, were obtained from MODIS satellite imagery and the Copernicus Marine Data Store. Data were analyzed descriptively for catch composition, while CPUE was used to evaluate fishing productivity and its association with oceanographic variables. The results showed that the catch was dominated by skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), kawakawa (Euthynnus affinis), and scads (Decapterus spp.). Total catch reached 48,638 kg from 17 fishing trips, resulting in a CPUE value of 2,861.06 kg trip⁻¹. The highest catches were associated with SST of 30.6–30.8°C, salinity of 33.80–33.89 ppt, chlorophyll-a concentrations of 0.13–0.19 mg m⁻³, and current velocities of 0.85–1.04 m s⁻¹. These findings indicate that purse seine productivity is influenced by the interaction between FAD deployment and favorable oceanographic conditions that support pelagic fish aggregation.

Abstract

Traditional smoked fish enterprises play an important role in supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities. However, the highly perishable nature of fish products poses significant challenges to the supply chain, including uncertainty in raw material availability, limited coordination among supply chain actors, and distribution risks. This study aimed to analyse the Food Supply Chain Network (FSCN) of traditional smoked fish enterprises in Bone Regency, Indonesia, by examining the network structure, supply chain management, business processes, resources, product, information, and financial flows, as well as identifying key bottlenecks and supply chain risks. A descriptive research approach was employed through field observations and interviews with 38 traditional smoked fish producers selected using the census method as the primary respondents. The analysis was further supported by information obtained from other supply chain actors to provide a comprehensive FSCN assessment. The results revealed that the smoked fish supply chain consists of five main actors: fishers, raw material suppliers, smoked fish producers, retailers, and end consumers, supported by secondary actors providing production facilities and supporting services. Smoked fish producers serve as the central actors by transforming fresh fish into value-added smoked fish products. Product flows move from fishers and suppliers to producers and subsequently to retailers and end consumers. Information flows occur bidirectionally among supply chain actors, while financial flows move upstream from consumers through predominantly cash-based transactions founded on mutual trust. The business processes encompass raw material procurement, production, inventory replenishment, and customer order fulfilment. FSCN analysis identified raw material supply as the primary key bottleneck, primarily due to dependence on capture fisheries, where seasonal variation and adverse weather conditions disrupt the continuity of fresh fish supply. This bottleneck is further exacerbated by limited processing technology and quality deterioration during product distribution. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening raw material supply continuity, enhancing coordination among supply chain actors, and improving institutional integration to increase the resilience and sustainability of the traditional smoked fish supply chain in Bone Regency
