Abstract

Bengkulu City is the center for almost all activities and has a high population growth rate. Because of the high population growth rate, human needs for space and land will increase. Land availability will continue to decline, while it cannot increase the existing area. This will impact the carrying capacity of the environment, so it needs predictions for land availability. This study used a spatial dynamics model which is an analysis of the dynamic system model and the suitability of the built-up area. The carrying capacity to reach excellent quality when the length of the built-up area is 30-70% of the total area that can be used. The results showed that the built-up area will reach 70% in 2030, which means it will exceed the environmental carrying capacity threshold. The results showed there were differences between the distribution patterns of built-up area in the spatial dynamics model and Spatial Planning Bengkulu City in 2032 at Kampung Melayu Subdistrict, Selebar Subdistrict, Singaran Pati Subdistrict, and Sungai Serut Subdistrict.

Abstract

The research described here was conducted at the Tangkolak Marine Center (TMC) tourist attraction in Cilamaya Wetan District, Karawang Regency, Indonesia in November and December 2019. This research aimed to analyze the suitability of the mangrove tourism area using PlanetScope sensor Dove-R satellite imagery. The research method consisted of literature review, observation, calculation of the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) formula using PlanetScope sensor Dove-R satellite imagery, and direct measurements of transects and sample plots. The variables used were thickness, density, mangrove types, biota objects, tides, area characteristics, and accessibility. The results showed that mangrove tourism in TMC could be classified into two categories: suitable (65%-80%) and conditionally-compliant. According to the classification, the area is characterized by a mangrove thickness of up to 175.0 meters, a mangrove density between 15-25 tree/100 m2, 3-5 types of mangrove species, and associated biota including mudskipper fish, shrimp, crab, and crane. Meanwhile, the other area classified as conditionally compliant is characterized by a thickness of up to 48.2 meters, a mangrove density of 5-10 tree/100 m2, 2 species of mangrove, and associated biota in the form of mudskipper fish, shrimp, and crab. The research highlights the successful application of remote sensing data, specifically PlanetScope satellite imagery, for studying mangrove tourism areas, indicating its potential as a valuable alternative data source for such investigations.

Abstract

Indonesia's geographical location resulted in the fisheries in the Sunda Strait also affected by global climate dynamics. One of them is the ENSO (El Nino-Southern Oscillation) phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean that affects the seasons and marine waters in Indonesia. The fishery in the Sunda Strait has a commodity of pelagic fish where potential area can be estimated from oceanographic parameters such as sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentration in marine waters. The dynamics of the spatial and temporal parameter of oceanography due to the variation of ENSO phenomena can be identified from Aqua satellite images carrying the MODIS sensor. Information on potential areas of pelagic fish is needed to help the effectiveness of fishery activities and increase the production of capture fisheries. Monthly oceanographic parameters in the Sunda Strait are overlayed based on 4 seasonal variations in a year on each variation of the ENSO phenomenon and are classified by moderate, potential, and very potential classes. As a result, the potential areas of very potential pelagic fish in the Sunda Strait in the La Nina and El Nino phenomena are greater than in normal conditions and occur in the east seasons until the second transition. The spread is in the Indian Ocean to the west of the Sunda Strait.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to understand the management strategy for Mackerel Fish (Rastrelliger Kanagurta) at Karangantu Harbor. The research method used by researchers is a quantitative research method.  The sample selection in this research used the primary data sampling technique, using a purposive sampling technique. Because the aim of this research was mackerel, sampling was carried out randomly on the fishing fleet that caught mackerel and landed at PPN Karangantu. Meanwhile, the researcher's data analysis used Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE), Fox Model, Schaefer Model, Walter-Hilborn Model, Clarke Yoshimoto Pooley (CYP) Model, and Schnute Model, as well as analysis of management strategy preparation using qualitative descriptive analysis methods based on MSY values, JTB, and average annual production/catch at Karangantu Harbor. The results of the research show that the correlation coefficient (R2) at 20 days is 0.9537. The r value is close to 1 (one), indicating a close relationship between length growth and fish weight. The condition of the mackerel fishery in the waters of Serang Regency is experiencing a decline. For the management of mackerel, the size of the nets used to catch mackerel should be enlarged so that fewer fish are caught that are smaller than the size at which the gonads first mature.

Abstract

Indonesia has two-thirds of its territory covered by sea, making it rich in marine resources, especially fish. According to the Census of Marine Life, there are around 950 thousand species that inhabit the world's oceans, but only about one percent have been exploited. In Indonesia itself, FishBase records around 4743 types of fish, making it the country with the largest Marine Mega-Biodiversity in the world (Jabbar, 2018). There are two main problems in the fisheries sector in Indonesia: economics and biology. Biological problems include threats to the sustainability of fish stocks, while economic problems are related to the lack of profits obtained by fishermen from catches and sustainable use of fish resources (Akoit and Nalle, 2018). The Archipelago Fisheries Port (PPN) plays an important role in supporting fishing activities in the Indian Ocean, including in Palabuhanratu, West Java. Palabuhanratu is an important location for landing various types of fish, especially large pelagic fish such as tuna and skipjack, as well as swanggi fish (Priacanthusmacracanthus), which experienced a significant increase in production from 573 tonnes in 2013 to 18,730 tonnes in 2015 (Sadewi et al., 2018). Swanggi fish is a demersal fish with high economic value that is in demand by the public and is an export commodity to Korea, Japan and China. However, high demand results in overfishing and a decline in adult fish stocks (Jabbar et al., 2017). This research is descriptive quantitative research which aims to measure the level of variables through samples. The analytical methods used include analysis of biological aspects of swanggifish, catch analysis methods, and sustainability analysis methods using Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries (RAPFISH). It is hoped that the results of this research can provide a sustainable shrimp resource management strategy based on the data obtained.
