Abstract

The packaging industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly, especially in production cost efficiency. One of the important stages is the lamination process, which is the incorporation of the printing film and sealing film using adhesive. Solvent-free lamination technology emerged as an environmentally friendly alternative because it does not use solvents. This study uses a quantitative method to analyze the impact of technology change from solvent base to solvent free on cost efficiency. The results showed that laminates with 15 micron Nylon and 85 micron LLDPE C8 still produced bonding strength in accordance with industry standards. Solvent-free technology is more efficient because it does not require a drying chamber, so energy consumption is lower. Although there is still a small amount of solvent residue, it is still cleaner and more economical to use. Substitution to this technology shows great potential in reducing production costs without compromising product quality. Therefore, solvent free is an environmentally friendly and efficient solution for the flexible packaging industry in Indonesia.

Abstract

Packaging design plays a crucial role in product differentiation and brand identity formation, especially in the highly competitive cosmetics industry. This research aims to analyze the potential plagiarism of packaging designs for cushion products from the brands True To Skin and Glad2Glow, as well as their impact on the distinctiveness of each product. The research approach used is qualitative with a comparative method. Data was collected through literature study and in-depth visual analysis of the design elements of both products' packaging. The results of the study indicate a significant similarity in several aspects of the packaging design, which could potentially create confusion among consumers and threaten the uniqueness of each brand's visual identity. The implications of this research highlight the need for greater awareness regarding the importance of industrial design rights protection for industry players in the cosmetics sector. Registering packaging designs as intellectual property becomes a preventive measure.

Abstract

The increasing volume of flexible packaging waste in Indonesia drives the need for environmentally friendly packaging solutions. This study compares the physical, mechanical, and stability characteristics of monomaterial and multimaterial snack packaging, each with a net weight of 68 grams. Conducted at PT. X, the research uses a quantitative comparative approach. Two packaging structures were tested: OPP/ink/PE/VMBOPP/Resin PP (monomaterial) and OPP/ink/PE/VMPET/CPP (multimaterial). Parameters tested include WVTR, O₂TR, tensile strength, sealing strength, bonding strength, and COF. Samples were conditioned in an oven at 80°C for 7 weeks to simulate three years of room temperature storage. Results show that monomaterial packaging performs competitively, particularly in WVTR and tensile strength, although its O₂TR is higher. Its recyclability highlights significant potential in supporting plastic waste reduction policies and contributes to the development of sustainable packaging in the snack food industry.

Abstract

The flexible packaging manufacturing industry faces significant challenges related to product quality, resulting in high sorting and return rates and impacting smooth delivery. High return rates are a major concern as they not only reduce customer satisfaction but also impact the achievement of the company's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of On-Time Delivery and Zero Returns. Initial analysis showed that the slitting process was a critical point in the flexible packaging production process, with two main problems, namely a messy roll and a narrow paper core. These two problems were the largest contributors to the number of customer sorting and returns. To overcome these, the company implemented two approaches, first by eliminating the technical causes of both problems, and second by preventing the problems from being passed on to customers, while reducing waste and potential environmental pollution using fishbone diagrams and root cause analysis methods. The implementation results showed significant improvements. The average monthly sorting rate decreased from 18 rolls to 7 rolls and returns were reduced from 6 rolls to 0 rolls between May 2025 and September 2025. Through Continuous Improvement efforts, the company successfully addressed issues with messy rolls and narrow paper cores that previously led to product returns and quality degradation. With measurable and documented steps, the company not only optimized its production processes but also significantly improved customer satisfaction. This success reflects the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability, efficient and environmentally friendly operations.
