Abstract

The phenomenon of urban communities experiencing a shift in religious values requires a more adaptive and contextual approach to da'wah. Education-based da'wah is a strategic solution to systematically and sustainably ground the teachings of Islam. This study aims to explore the characteristics of educational da'wah carried out by Ustadz Nur Hidayat, a practitioner of Islamic education in Surabaya and Sidoarjo. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a media text analysis approach. Primary data is obtained from Ustadz Nur Hidayat's book entitled Success Tips for Pioneering, Managing, and Developing Islamic Schools, while secondary data comes from his Instagram digital content. The analysis techniques used include content analysis and critical discourse analysis. The results showed that the educational da'wah developed by Ustadz Nur Hidayat emphasizes character building, internalization of Islamic values, and a humanist approach in the learning process. Da'wah is not only delivered through lectures, but also through nurturing, exemplary, and a structured education system. This approach has proven to be effective in responding to the challenges of urban society and has contributed significantly to the formation of a generation of Muslims who are faithful, knowledgeable, and noble.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how the principle of Qaulan Karimah is implemented in shaping the character of adolescents at the Al-Jam'iyatul Washliyah Orphanage in Pulo Brayan, Medan. Qaulan Karimah is an Islamic communication principle that emphasizes noble and kind speech, serving as a fundamental guideline in developing the personality and morals of the adolescents within the orphanage environment. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The informants in this study consist of six individuals, including caregivers and teachers who are actively involved in guiding the adolescents. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions inductively. The findings show that the implementation of the Qaulan Karimah principle has a positive impact on the moral development of adolescents, such as increased patience, the ability to speak politely, and the emergence of a more positive attitude toward others. This implementation is supported by regular religious activities such as Quranic recitations, congregational prayers, and Islamic character development programs. Although there are challenges, such as the diverse backgrounds of the adolescents and consistency in applying the principle, the approach has proven effective in moral development. The implication of this study is that the use of Islamic communication principles like Qaulan Karimah can serve as an effective strategy for character building among adolescents, especially in social institutions such as orphanages. Abstract

The establishment of Senior High Schools (SMA) plays an important role in creating a quality education system and honing students' creativity. In addition, high schools also serve as a place for students to develop social skills, critical thinking, and prepare themselves to face challenges at the next level of education. The competition between public and private high schools drives the need for effective Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) strategies to attract prospective students. With the increasing number of schools, each educational institution must be able to build strong appeal and reputation in the community. SMAS Harapan Utama Batam has implemented IMC such as advertising, digital marketing, sales promotion, and direct marketing. Advertising is used to increase public awareness of the school through various media, both print and digital. Digital marketing is increasingly being optimized in line with changing trends in information consumption, especially through social media platforms. Sales promotions such as registration fee discounts become an additional strategy to increase the interest of prospective students. Meanwhile, direct marketing allows for a more personal interaction between the school and prospective students. This study aims to evaluate the IMC used by the school with a descriptive quantitative method, using a Likert scale and surveys of 106 parents and guardians. The results show the highest preference for digital marketing through TikTok, followed by advertising, digital marketing through Instagram, sales promotion, and direct marketing. This shows that social media plays a significant role in the school's marketing strategy. These findings are expected to serve as input for SMAS Harapan Utama and similar schools to enhance marketing effectiveness and increase the number of students in the future.   Keywords: Country, Education, High School, Integrated Marketing Communication, Preference.

Abstract

Interfaith greetings in Islamic law have become a significant issue in multicultural societies. Classical fiqh discusses the boundaries of interreligious interaction, yet Islamic law is inherently dynamic and adapts to the evolution of society. This study addresses two main aspects. First, it explores Fazlur Rahman’s concept of hadith and Islamic law, emphasizing the importance of ijtihad in responding to contemporary challenges. Second, it analyzes hadiths related to the prohibition of tasyabbuh (imitation), which some scholars use as a basis to avoid interfaith greetings. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The findings highlight the importance of understanding social context and intention when interpreting Islamic law concerning interfaith greetings. Fazlur Rahman advocates for an inclusive approach that aligns Islamic law with the realities of modern society. Regarding the hadith on tasyabbuh, there are varying scholarly interpretations, necessitating a deeper understanding and the application of principles of tolerance. The study concludes by emphasizing the need to align Islamic law with humanitarian values and peace without compromising the sanctity of religious teachings. Interfaith greetings can serve as an expression of respect and a means to strengthen harmony in society. A dialogical approach that values diversity and inclusivity is key to resolving this dilemma. This research is expected to contribute positively to understanding and practicing interfaith tolerance in heterogeneous societies.

Abstract

Masjid Ar Rahmah Surabaya adopts a hybrid organizational model that integrates Islamic values with modern management systems across four main sectors: da'wah, education, social services, and economy. This mosque functions not only as a place of worship but also as a center for community empowerment, implementing various programs based on Islamic principles. This study aims to analyze organizational culture development strategies that maintain synergy among units without causing fragmentation or internal conflicts. Using a qualitative approach, this research applies Edgar Schein’s theory to identify organizational culture at three levels: artifacts, espoused values, and underlying assumptions. The findings indicate that the implementation of the KHIDMAH culture (Collaborative, Humanistic, Integrity, Dedication, Moderate, Adaptive, Harmonious) plays a crucial role in fostering a productive, sustainable, and cohesive work environment. Strategies such as strengthening a shared vision, enhancing human resource synergy, implementing complementary practices among units, and promoting continuous organizational learning ensure that each unit contributes effectively toward the mosque’s grand mission: producing mosque imams at the Asia-Pacific level. With this model, Masjid Ar Rahmah has successfully become financially independent while serving as a center for da'wah and community empowerment, achieving a strong competitive position both nationally and internationally.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explores the definition and meaning of da'wah from the perspective of the Qur'an and Hadith, focusing on the fundamental principles and methods applied in the da'wah process. In the Qur'an, da'wah is explained through the call to invite to goodness (amar ma'ruf nahi munkar), which should not be done with force but rather with wisdom, good advice (mau'izhah hasanah), and polite debate (jidal bi allati hiya ahsan). The Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ reinforces that da'wah is the responsibility of every Muslim, even by conveying just one verse. The method of da'wah must be done with gentleness, in accordance with the principle that Allah loves gentleness in all matters. Furthermore, good character plays a central role in the success of da'wah. This study analyzes various verses of the Qur'an and Hadith to reveal the deep meaning of da'wah and its application in the life of Muslims, both in theory and practice. Keywords: Da'wah, Qur'an, Hadith, Wisdom, Mau'izhah Hasanah

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the preaching rhetoric used by the Instagram account @gusmiftah in spreading the values of religious moderation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and content analysis, this study examines three video uploads of Gus Miftah's preaching and audience responses. The results show that Gus Miftah effectively applies three elements of Aristotle's rhetoric: ethos (credibility as a cleric), pathos (emotional power through persuasive language), and logos (logical argumentation supported by Quranic verses) to convey messages of religious moderation such as tolerance, unity, and anti-extremism. Despite some criticism, the majority of audience responses are positive, demonstrating the effectiveness of his digital preaching strategy. This study concludes that Aristotle's rhetoric is still relevant in the context of digital preaching and can serve as a model for preachers in spreading moderate Islam on social media.

Abstract

Women's leadership in Islamic boarding schools continues to face challenges due to a patriarchal culture that positions men as central figures. This research aimed to analyze the representation of women's leadership through the character of Alina Suhita in the film Hati Suhita (2023). The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using John Fiske's semiotic analysis, which covered the levels of reality, representation, and ideology. The analysis was strengthened by Stuart Hall's representation theory and Alice Eagly's Role Congruity Theory to understand how women are constructed as leaders in religious spaces. The findings revealed that Alina's leadership was represented in three dimensions: intellectual, emotional, and social. Intellectual leadership was seen when Alina provided historical knowledge to the students, affirming women's intellectual capacity in education. Emotional leadership was reflected in her ability to build interpersonal relationships and gain legitimacy through the support of family and Islamic boarding schools. Social leadership was demonstrated by the collective recognition of her authority by teachers and students. This research highlighted that the film Hati Suhita offered resistance to the patriarchal structure of Islamic boarding schools and opened discussions on the legitimacy of women's leadership.
