Abstract

Indonesia's MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, and Exhibition) industry plays an important role in the economy. Still, it faces significant challenges related to the environmental impact caused by extensive activities, such as waste and high energy consumption. Therefore, implementing the green meeting concept, which focuses on environmental sustainability, is crucial to reducing these negative impacts. This research aims to examine the implementation of green meetings at Indonesian MICE venues, identify the challenges faced, and explore the strategies implemented to reduce the event's ecological footprint. Based on a study of several venues in Jakarta and Bali, the research results show that although there are efforts to implement environmentally friendly practices, such as the use of renewable energy, more efficient waste management, and reducing the use of single-use plastics, the main challenges faced are the lack of uniform sustainability policies, limited infrastructure, and low awareness of participants. This research recommends strengthening clear national policies, providing incentives for green technology, and more intensive training for event managers and participants. The implications of implementing green meetings are expected to increase Indonesia's competitiveness in the global MICE market and strengthen relationships with local communities. This research also proposes a future research agenda to evaluate the economic and social impacts of implementing green meetings and developing more in-depth policies.

Abstract

The international world's perception of a country is essential. In 2022, Indonesia attracted international media attention, which can form the nation’s image of Indonesia in the international public perception. Therefore, this study analyses international media, online news, and social media Twitter perceptions towards Indonesia. For the news, aspect-based sentiment analysis is carried out, and for Twitter opinion, sentiment classification using multiple classification algorithms, and topic modeling related to these sentiments are carried out. Furthermore, this research classifies news sentiment based on aspects of forming the country's image, such as tourism, exports, diplomacy, government policies, and people's behavior. It was obtained that aspects of people, policy, and tourism, besides being classified as “none” class, mostly classified in negative sentiment. While diplomacy and export are mostly positive sentiment. One limitation of this classifier is the insufficient number of cases in the training data, which led to relatively low accuracy and precision in this study.  On Twitter opinion, it was found that Twitter's positive sentiment about Indonesia is associated with tourism recovery. The topic modeling of positive tweets highlighted international interest in Indonesia's tourism. This study's findings can provide valuable insights for the government on boosting foreign tourism to support economic growth. Additionally, policymakers should focus on addressing issues that attract foreign media attention. By effectively managing these concerns, Indonesia’s branding can be enhanced, potentially leading to an increase in tourist arrivals.
Big Data in Tourism and Hospitality Industry: Predictive Analytics of Hotel Room Trends Singgalen, Yerik Afrianto

Abstract

This study investigates predictive analytics applications in the hospitality sector, specifically employing the XGBoost algorithm to predict room selection patterns based on guest data. Analysis of 900 booking records revealed that three variables—"Length of Stay," "Rating," and "Guest Type"—exhibited the strongest predictive power for room preferences. The implementation achieved 85% classification accuracy, revealing subtle correlations between customer characteristics and accommodation choices. Our findings suggest that hotels can leverage similar analytical frameworks to refine inventory management strategies, develop targeted promotional campaigns, and streamline operational workflows. The investigation also identified methodological limitations regarding class distribution in the dataset, suggesting that enhanced feature selection techniques could potentially reduce error rates in subsequent modeling approaches. This work contributes to the growing body of evidence demonstrating how advanced data analytics can drive competitive advantage and sustainability initiatives within tourism enterprises.

Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that plays an important role in economic growth, job creation, and improving community welfare. Werahung Beach is one of the beaches in Ambon City that offers stunning natural scenery and has the potential to be a major attraction for tourists. This study aims to evaluate the level of tourism suitability and identify sustainable tourism development strategies based on physical and social aspects to formulate appropriate development recommendations. The data collected includes the results of the Tourism Suitability Index (TSI) analysis used to evaluate the suitability of the area based on physical parameters and SWOT data used to determine the development strategy for Werahung Beach. The research method used in this study is a mixed method with data collection techniques through field observation and documentation. The results of the study showed the TSI value for each station as follows: Station I (71.87%), Station II (69.53%), and Station III (65.62%). Werahung Beach has a total IT value of 69%, which is included in the S3 category (Quite Suitable). The SWOT analysis shows that the development strategy for Werahung Beach is in Quadrant III with IFAS (0.53) and EFAS (0.33).

Abstract

This study investigates the role of traditional food in cultural tourism development through an examination of Bagar Hiu, a traditional shark-based dish from Bengkulu, Indonesia. The research employs PLS-SEM to analyze survey data collected from 300 tourists, focusing on the relationships between food quality, attractiveness, satisfaction, and behavioral intention. Key findings demonstrate significant direct effects: food quality exhibits strong positive relationships with both attractiveness (p < 0.000) and satisfaction (p < 0.000). Attractiveness significantly influences satisfaction (p < 0.000) and behavioral intention (p < 0.000). Furthermore, satisfaction shows a significant effect on behavioral intention (p < 0.000), while food quality maintains a direct, though weaker, impact on behavioral intention (p = 0.002). These results provide empirical evidence for traditional food's multifaceted role in tourist experiences, particularly highlighting the importance of food attractiveness. The study contributes to culinary tourism literature by quantifying these relationships and identifying satisfaction's mediating role. Practical implications suggest the need for destination managers to emphasize both food quality and presentation while preserving culinary authenticity to enhance tourist satisfaction and behavioral intentions

Abstract

Marine tourism in Nusa Penida, Bali, has expanded rapidly over the past decade, attracting large numbers of domestic and international visitors to its renowned dive sites, coral reefs, and coastal landscapes. However, this growth has raised critical safety concerns that threaten both visitor well-being and the sustainability of the destination. This qualitative study draws on an extensive literature review and a structured hypothetical survey framework, designed in August 2024, to examine the systemic challenges in marine tourism safety. Rather than relying on newly collected empirical data, this research synthesizes existing reports, stakeholder commentary, and regulatory reviews to identify ten interrelated categories of risk: weak enforcement, poor infrastructure, unregulated tourism expansion, unsafe operator behavior, limited monitoring, environmental degradation, weather-related risks, lack of safety education, poor incident reporting, and fragmented governance. Through thematic analysis, the study links these issues to feasible and locally adaptive solutions, highlighting the need for integrated zoning, multilingual safety communication, institutional collaboration, and climate-responsive infrastructure. The findings underscore the urgency of developing cross-sectoral, adaptive marine safety governance that aligns tourism growth with environmental resilience and visitor protection. Policy recommendations are proposed for application in other high-risk coastal destinations
