Abstract

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages among adolescents, including adolescent girls, often for reasons such as improving concentration, reducing sleepiness, or as part of lifestyle habits. However, excessive coffee consumption may have adverse effects on both physical and psychological health. This study aimed to investigate the impact of coffee consumption on the health quality of adolescent girls. The research employed an analytical quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 117 female high school students in Bekasi, with samples selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires on coffee consumption patterns and health status, including sleep quality, anxiety levels, learning concentration, and physical complaints. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between coffee consumption and health quality. The findings showed that most respondents consumed coffee 1-2 times per day, either in the morning or at night. Excessive coffee consumption was significantly associated with poor sleep quality (p = 0.046), increased anxiety levels (p = 0.009), decreased concentration (p < 0.0001), and anemia (p < 0.0001). Coffee consumption negatively affects the health quality of adolescent girls, particularly in aspects related to sleep, psychological well-being, and concentration. Education on balanced and healthy coffee consumption should be provided to adolescents early on to prevent long-term negative health impacts.

Abstract

Self-care has become a concern among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis due to limitations in performing self-care and daily activities. An individual's perception of their illness plays a crucial role in coping with and adapting to the condition. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between illness perception and self-care in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. This research was a correlational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Ninety-seven respondents participated in this study. Data were collected using the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (B-IPQ) and the Self-care of CKD index and analyzed using Spearman's rank test with a significance level of 0.05. The mean of illness perception was 37.16 ±10.29, and the median of self–care was 68 (45-91). There was a significant negative correlation between illness perception and self-care in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis (p=0.003 and r=-0.299). Illness perception is related to self-care in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis—the more positive the illness perception, the lower the patient's dependence on self-care. Therefore, improving illness perception is essential to optimize self-care in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

The phenomenon of increasing sickness presenteeism among healthcare workers, especially nurses, has raised serious concerns because it can potentially reduce the quality of healthcare services provided to patients. One of the factors contributing to the high level of sickness presenteeism among nurses is the perceived organizational support they feel. This study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived organizational support and sickness presenteeism of nurses in hospital inpatient wards. This research used a quantitative correlational method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, involving 91 nurses assigned to the inpatient wards of Jember Klinik Hospital and Kaliwates Hospital in Jember. The research instruments included the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS-6) and the Perceived Organizational Support Scale, both of which have been validated for their reliability. Data analysis was conducted with Kendall's Tau-B test. The results showed a very significant relationship between perceived organizational support and sickness presenteeism among nurses in the inpatient wards. The statistical analysis results show a significance value (p-value) of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship, and a correlation coefficient (r = 0.939), indicating a robust positive correlation. In this study, higher POS scores represented higher perceived support, while higher SP scores represented greater sickness presenteeism, thus explaining the positive correlation. The findings indicate that low perceived organizational support is significantly associated with higher levels of sickness presenteeism among nurses. This study concludes that low perceived support from head nurses influences the high level of sickness presenteeism in nurses.

Abstract

Cervical cancer remains a significant public health problem and a leading cause of death among women in low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia. Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) is a cost-effective screening method, yet its effectiveness varies depending on individual, social, and institutional factors. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between demographic, psychosocial, and support-related factors and the effectiveness of VIA examination among women of reproductive age (WRA) at a private midwife practice in Tangerang Regency, Indonesia. A cross-sectional design was used involving 91 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and clinical VIA records. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test, followed by multivariate logistic regression to identify dominant predictors of ineffective VIA examination. The bivariate analysis showed significant associations between VIA examination effectiveness and age (p = 0.001), education level (p = 0.009), knowledge (p = 0.015), family support (p = 0.028), and health worker support (p = 0.042). Multivariate analysis identified age as the most dominant predictor, with women aged over 35 years being 6.2 times more likely to experience ineffective VIA examination (OR = 6.21; 95% CI = 2.15–17.89). Age and psychosocial factors significantly influence the effectiveness of VIA screening. Targeted health education and enhanced support from families and midwives are crucial to improving VIA performance and participation rates among women of reproductive age. Strengthening midwife-led community interventions may improve early detection outcomes of cervical cancer in Indonesia.

Abstract

The digital transformation of Indonesia's healthcare sector requires health facilities to be ready to effectively implement Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in compliance with national regulations. This study aimed to analyze the readiness level of EMR implementation using the DOQ-IT framework, comprising human resources, organizational culture, leadership, governance, and technological infrastructure. A qualitative descriptive method was employed through questionnaires and in-depth interviews, utilizing a snowball sampling technique with 25 respondents and six key informants, and validated by four experts (three internal and one external). The findings indicate that the clinic falls within Range II (Moderately Ready); computers are available in the registration, pharmacy, and laboratory units, but the system is not yet fully integrated. Following external validation, the clinic successfully integrated patient visit data with the national SATUSEHAT platform, in accordance with the Ministry of Health's guidelines. The study concludes that the clinic's digital readiness is progressing positively toward complete transformation. However, further improvement is required in staff training, network enhancement, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures for digital data quality assurance.

Abstract

Hemodialysis (HD) units are high-risk areas for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Nurses play a vital role in infection prevention and control (IPC), yet their adherence to IPC standards can be inconsistent, especially in resource-limited areas like the Gaza Strip (GS). This study aimed to assess the performance of HD nurses in implementing IPC practices at governmental hospitals in the GS. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in six governmental hospitals, involving 112 registered nurses working in HD units. Data were collected using a structured, self-administered questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, IPC-related knowledge, and self-reported performance. SPSS version 26 was used for both descriptive and inferential analysis. Nurses showed moderate IPC knowledge (mean = 78.4%, SD = 8.5) and performance (mean = 62.3%, SD = 12.1). Performance varied across domains, with the highest scores in injectable medication preparation (mean = 11.92, SD = 3.59) and the lowest in dialysis station disinfection (mean = 5.44, SD = 2.94). Significant differences in IPC performance were associated with gender, hospital location, and type of HD service (p < 0.001), with pediatric HD nurses demonstrating the highest compliance. HD nurses' performance is moderate, with gaps in environmental hygiene. These results highlight the need for training and monitoring targeted to enhance infection control and promote patient safety.

Abstract

The prevalence of growth and developmental disorders among toddlers remains high, reaching 28.7%, and children experiencing early growth delays are at increased risk of developing non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disorders later in life. Developmental delays that occur before age 20 may persist and affect long-term health outcomes. This study aimed to examine the impact of infant massage on growth, development, and mother–infant interaction among infants aged 6–12 months. A pre-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design was conducted. A total of 40 infants aged 6–11 months were recruited using total sampling and allocated into an intervention group (n = 20) and a control group (n = 20). Study instruments included the Bethlehem Mother–Infant Interaction Scale (BMIS), the Ages and Stages Questionnaire–Third Edition (ASQ-3), standardized infant massage procedures, observation sheets, weight scales, and length measurement tools. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and nonparametric inferential tests, including the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test for within-group comparisons and the Mann–Whitney U Test for between-group comparisons. The results demonstrated significant improvements in growth, developmental outcomes, and mother–infant interaction following infant massage in the intervention group. In contrast, no significant changes were observed in the control group across assessment periods. Significant differences were also identified between the intervention and control groups. In conclusion, infant massage is effective in enhancing growth, development, and mother–infant interaction among infants in Depok City. Training and educational programs on proper infant massage techniques are recommended for mothers to promote regular practice at home, strengthen emotional bonding, and support optimal infant development.

Abstract

Healthcare constitutes a fundamental societal necessity, wherein rising social standards have driven an intensified public demand for quality services. Within this framework, pregnant women's satisfaction with midwifery care is significantly influenced by effective communication, personalized attention, professional competence, and the adequacy of facilities at community health centers. This study aims to analyze healthcare service quality on satisfaction, anxiety, and physical health of pregnant women. This quantitative study uses a descriptive correlational approach. The respondents in this study were 246 pregnant women receiving healthcare services. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling. Analysis was conducted using linear regression tests. The results showed a significant relationship between healthcare quality and the three variables (P < 0.001). Maternal satisfaction was the strongest factor, with a coefficient B of 5.451 and an odds ratio (OR) of 233.026. The quality of healthcare services significantly influences maternal satisfaction, anxiety, and physical health, with satisfaction being the dominant variable. Pregnant women are advised to be active with healthcare providers, undergo regular check-ups, and improve health communication literacy to improve satisfaction and physical health, as well as reduce anxiety during pregnancy.

Abstract

Maternal mortality serves as a critical barometer of global health equity, exposing profound disparities in access to quality services across socioeconomic strata. Elevated maternal mortality rates (MMR) are driven by multifactorial challenges, including compromised maternal health status, inadequate pregnancy readiness, insufficient antenatal care, and limited access to skilled birth attendance. This study aimed to analyze childbirth companion readiness at the maternity clinic. This study used a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The sample comprised 65 prospective birth companions. The data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate logistic regression tests. The study showed that most respondents had a low level of readiness (53.8%). Statistically significant relationships were observed between knowledge, compliance, attitude, perception, economic status, religiosity, leadership style, and physical readiness and readiness to assist childbirth (p < 0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between occupation and cultural factors with readiness. Multivariate analysis indicated that knowledge was the most dominant variable influencing readiness, with a beta coefficient of 9.914 and a p-value of 0.002 (< 0.05). Knowledge is the most dominant factor influencing the readiness of birth companions. Midwives provide education and communication to prospective birth companions (husbands) to improve childbirth readiness.

Abstract

Pediculosis capitis is an infestation of the ectoparasite Pediculus humanus var. capitis on the hair and scalp, which remains a public health issue with a high prevalence, particularly among school-aged children and adolescents. Islamic boarding schools are highly vulnerable to transmission due to communal living patterns and the frequent sharing of personal items. This study aimed to determine the relationship between hair hygiene knowledge and the occurrence of Pediculosis capitis among female students. An observational-analytic, cross-sectional study was conducted with 52 respondents selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through microscopic examination of hair lice samples. The results revealed a significant relationship between hair hygiene knowledge and Pediculosis capitis infestation. The students’ knowledge and hair hygiene practices were relatively low, as reflected by the high prevalence rate of infestation (72.5%). Therefore, increasing health education and promotion regarding hair hygiene in boarding schools is essential as a preventive strategy against Pediculosis capitis.
