Abstract

Digital start-ups have grown rapidly in recent years, with Indonesia reaching 1,190 start-ups according to MIKTI’s 2021 mapping. However, despite this growth, 95% of start-ups fail, highlighting the high risks they face. Risk management is crucial in helping companies manage these risks and protect their value. This research aims to examine the influence of risk management awareness and implementation on start-ups performance in Indonesia. The research adopts a quantitative approach, collecting data through non-probability and purposive sampling. A total of 51 CEOs/Founders of Indonesian digital start-ups participated by completing an online questionnaire. The questionnaire included four sections: demographic information, risk management awareness, risk management implementation, and company performance. Data collected were analysed using multiple linear regression, including T and F tests. Findings show that while risk management awareness among start-up leaders is high, its implementation remains incomplete. Both risk management awareness and implementation significantly affect start-up performance, but only implementation shows a partial significant effect. These results highlight the importance of fully applying risk management practices. Start-ups, incubators, and government bodies can use these insights to strengthen start-up performance and reduce failure rates by promoting comprehensive risk management implementation.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is considered a strategic solution to reduce unemployment among graduates, yet many students still lack the confidence and financial knowledge needed to start a business. This research addresses the gap by examining the influence of financial literacy on entrepreneurial interest, moderated by self-efficacy, among students of the Business Administration Department at Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang. The study employed a quantitative method with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 168 students. The analysis was conducted using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) via IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The findings showed that financial literacy had a positive effect on students’ entrepreneurial interest. Among the financial literacy indicators, financial attitude scored the highest, while financial knowledge was the lowest. Self-efficacy was also found to be high, with generality as the strongest indicator. Additionally, self-efficacy strengthens the relationship between financial literacy and entrepreneurial interest. These results suggest the importance of improving both financial understanding and confidence in one’s entrepreneurial abilities. Institutions are encouraged to integrate more practical and reflective learning strategies in entrepreneurship and finance courses to boost students’ readiness to start their own ventures.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of financial literacy and risk tolerance on investment decisions among students of the Business Administration and Accounting Departments at Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang. The importance of this research lies in the increasing awareness among students regarding the value of investing, yet their decisions often rely solely on existing financial knowledge without adequate consideration of risk management, leading to inconsistent results. Addressing this gap, the study aims to determine whether financial literacy and risk tolerance significantly contribute to students’ investment decision-making. The research employs a quantitative approach using a purposive sampling technique to select 86 respondents who have prior investment experience. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS version 25, incorporating validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, multicollinearity tests, t-tests, and F-tests. The findings revealed that financial literacy and risk tolerance simultaneously exert a positive and significant effect on investment decisions. Furthermore, both variables individually demonstrate a positive and significant influence. These results highlight that investment decisions are shaped not only by knowledge but also by the ability to manage risks, suggesting that enhancing both aspects is crucial for improving investment outcomes among students.
