Abstract

Yenni, 2012. Amelioration of Potential Sulphidic Soil for Onion Cultivation (Allium ascalonicum L.). JLSO 1(1): 40-49.Lowlands contains sulphidic soil which is  potential for crop production, yet acidic and lack of nutrients which inhibits plant growth. This study was aimed to identify the effects of liming of sulphate  soil on the growth of Onion (Allium ascalonicum L.). This study was carried out using factorial completely randomized design with six replicates on sulphate soil. The experiments were performed on poly bag (5 kg soil/poly bag/plant in acid sulphate soil. The  first factor was soil pH 4,05 (S1) and 5,02 (S2). The second factor was lime dosage(K0), 1 ton/ha (K1), 2 ton/ha (K2), and 3 ton/ha (K3). The plants were harvested after two month. Parameters measured were the growth of onion such as plant height, leaf number, bulb number, root length, fresh weight and dry weight of tuber. Secondary metabolite content of tuber was determined using gas chromatography. Data obtained werewas analyzed using ANOVAs, followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) with 5% significant level. Data analysis revealed that the combination of soil pH and lime dosage  has  significant effect on growth and yield of onion. Based on GC analysis, two tons/ha liming in sulphate soil gave the highest secondary metabolite contents.

Abstract

The demand of corn continues to increase along with the increasing of populations and industries. Compliance efforts could be done by increasing productivity through extensification and intensification farming. Statistical data showed that corn harvested area and production in South Sumatra over the period 2000-2012 was very volatile but had a tendency to increase since 2006. The area of land suitable for development of corn in South Sumatra, which amounted to 898,877 ha. This area consists of the intensification of land (205,709 ha), extensification of land (159,444 ha) and the diversification of land (533,724 ha). Land use for corn so far has been done in some districts/cities having dry land like Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), OKU Timur, Ogan Ilir, Ogan Komering Ilir well as in several districts that have ups and downs like agro Banyuasin and Musi Banyuasin. South Sumatra AIAT demonstration plots showed that significant productivity of corn. In 2010, IPM demplot of Mulyasari village, sub district of Tanjung Lago, District of Banyuasin showed that productivity of Bima 4 (8.8 t/ha), Bima 5 (8.3 t/ha), and Bisi 2 (8.4 t/ha), whereas in 2011 Banyuurip demplot showed that productivity of Bima 3 (11.27 t/ha) and Sukmaraga (8.13 t/ha).

Abstract

Banyuasin district is one of the rice producing regions in South Sumatra which rely on sub-optimal land type with category tidal land to produce rice production. The statistical data showed that Banyuasin District is a region that produces the highest rice production of rice-producing areas in South Sumatra. However, the high level of production is not able to guarantee farmers' income is also high, and prices at the consumer level will be low. This is because rice prices received by farmers is still relatively quite low. The condition is the main attraction of researchers to conduct this research with the aim to analyze the pattern of marketing tidal swamp rice production through the analysis of marketing channels, marketing margins, marketing efficiency level and method of pricing of each institution tidal swamp rice marketing in the District Banyuasin This study was conducted in District Rambutan Banyuasin Regency, with time data collection in April-May 2014. The results showed that there are two groups of marketing channels tidal swamp rice production in the district which are both classified as Banyuasin indirect marketing channels. Pricing method of rice is determined by the merchant so that farmers are recipients of the price (price taker) while marketing agency is a price maker. The calculation of the value of marketing margins in both marketing channel marketing agency in each figure shows the range varies with Rp.400 per kg to Rp, 3,100, - per kg. The analysis shows that the pattern of marketing efficiency marketing tidal swamp rice production is already relatively efficient, with the highest levels of efficiency are the major traders.
