Abstract

Long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) is a quite adaptive animal so it could be found in a diverse range of habitat types, one of the habitats is Plantation Forest on peatlands. This study aims to obtain the information about the activity of long-tailed macaque related to habitat utilization at Plantation The operational activities in the Plantation Forest can affect the activities of long-tailed macaque, changing of food sources, and they have a potential to attack the Acacia plants, so it’s necessary to do research about the activity of long-tailed macaque related to the habitat utilization at Plantation Forest and to acknowledge the types of plants used by long-tailed macaque for food and shelter. This research is a descriptive study and the data are obtained through a focal animal sampling method in April and May 2019 at the Plantation Forest in Sungai Penyabungan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The focal animal sampling method used at 7.00-17.00 WIB with using interval of 10 minutes. Based on the study, the long-tailed macaque used the active time to feed (24.60%), rest (25.58%), move (27.92%), and social activities (21.89%) included vocalization, agonistic, and grooming. The vegetation parts consumed by the long-tailed macaque are leaves (42.30%), fruits (34.62%), and flowers (23.08%). The vegetation used as food is Acacia crassicarpa, Melaleuca cajuputi, and Melastoma malabathricum. The plant that’s most often used as food and shelter is Acacia crassicarpa.

Effect of plant gowth regulator on the gowth of zygotic embryos in three types of oil palm fruit (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in tissue culture. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(2): 149-159.Embryo culture is a widely used and effective way of overcoming the dormancy nature of seeds in oil palm.  At the germination stage, the influence of gowth regulators play an important role although in relatively lower concentrations in the germination media. This aim research determined the effect of adding various concentrations of gowth regulator on the three types of oil palm fruit based on the thickness of the shell. This research carried out at the Tissue Culture Laboratory of PT. Sampoerna Ago Tbk. from September 2018 to January 2019. The gowth regulator substances used in this study were NAA, BAP and GA3. The composition of the gowth regulators used were H1 = 0.05 mg/L NAA + 0.1 mg/L BAP + 0.1 mg/L GA3, H2 = 0.05 mg/L NAA + 0.3 mg/L BAP + 0.1 mg/L GA3, H3 = 0.05 mg/L NAA + 0.5 mg/L BAP + 0.1 mg/L GA3 and H4 = No gowth regulator. While the types of oil palm fruit used were C1 = Dura, C2 = Tenera and C3 = Pisifera. This research used a factorial complete randomized design with three replications. The results showed that in general the use of gowth regulator substances H1 = 0.05 mg/L NAA + 0.1 mg/L BAP + 0.1 mg/L GA3 and the type of dura fruit showed positive results based on viability, scoring, survival and height of plantlets when compared with other treatments.

Abstract

Red rice was one species of rice in Indonesia that was superior in nutritional content and selling price compared to white rice but the productivity of red rice is still low. One of way to improved rice growth and productivity is fertilization red rice was one type of rice in Indonesia that contains high nutrition. This research aimed to observe the effects of  the combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of red rice (Oryza nivara L.). The research used a Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with 7 treatments. Each treatment had 3 replications and each experiment unit consisted of 3 plants so that there were 63 plants. The best treatment was compost of oil palm empty fruit bunch (125 g) + N, P, and K fertilizer 50%. The highest production was on oil palm empty fruit bunch compost (125 g) + Fertilizer N, P and K 50%,  it was equivalent to 5.49 ton/ha. In the red rice crop farming system it can be recommended to provide a combination of oil palm empty fruit bunch (125 g) compost and 50% N, P and K fertilizer to increase yields in the cultivation of red rice.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands  9(2): 167-174.Study on black sticky rice cultivation in South Sumatera is seldom carry out. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of water table and population density on the growth of rice during seedling preparation at floating seedbed; furthermore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of transplanting time on vegetative growth of black sticky rice. The research was started in May 2018 in Palembang. Black sticky variety used in this research was Toraja variety. The raft used is made from 1,5 l plastic bottles which are arranged to reach  2x1 meters in size. This study was conducted by two stages. The first stage was for water table and population density treatments laid on split plot design. The second stage was for transplanting time utilizing completely randomized factorial design. Statistically, results showed water table and population density significantly influensced root length of black sticky rice and transplanting time 14 DAS haad an effect on the leaf length , leaf width and leaf area.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(2): 175-183.Mycorrhizal fertilizer and urea can be used as an alternative to overcome problems in the tidal land that have various obstacles including low availability of nutrients, the presence of toxic compounds, high salinity, and pyrite compounds to be developed as agricultural land. The purpose of this research was to determine the role of mycorrhizal fertilizer and urea on the yield of chilli (Capsicum annuum) in tidal land. The study used a Randomized Block Design Method with 4 treatments including control, Mychorrhizal 10 g, Mychorrhizal 10 g and urea 0,375 g, urea 0,375 g with 5 replicat. So that the total treatments are 20 units. The results show that the application of mycorrhizal fertilizer 10 g had affected on plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area. Plants that have mycorrhizae have the ability to absorb more macro and micronutrient. The presence of fungal hyphae can expand the area of absorption of nutrients and water so that plant nutrients are available. The low treatment of mycorrhizal and urea fertilizers was due to a decrease in fertilizer efficiency because fertilizer was given in excessive amounts.

Abstract

This experiment was aimed to determine the effects of application of fermentation extracts on the development of pepper yellow leaf curl and whitefly on chilli. Experiment arranged in a completely randomized block design with four treatments (water as control, fermentations extracts named TSNGlu, BP4, and BP4Glu). The results showed symptoms in the form of curling of young leaves. The color of the leaves was relatively green. Yellow symptoms commonly found when severe were not found in the experiment. The symptoms of severe disease are marked in yellow at the top of the leaf and remain green at the bottom. The laboratory used 350 lux (underexposed light) so the symptoms become slight. ack of light intensity made plants etiolated and could not carry out photosynthesis properly. Each experiment consisted of 4 fermentation extract treatments. Each treatment. Overall, all treatments without fermentation and also AUDPC of the disease did not significantly affect the treatment of fermented extract both the incidence and severity of the low pepper yellow leaf curl virus. The treatment by spraying did not significantly affect the population of whitefly, except at 7 days after infestation, inversely proportional to the spraying treatment by means of discharge significantly affected from 14 days after infestation. The increase in plant height spray treatment did not have a significant effect and for spraying treatment with extraction of fermentation did not significantly affect the canopy area of ​​the plant canopy.

Optimization of palm oil cultivation in ultisol land through the planting of  mucuna bracteata.  Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(2): 160-166.The utilization of ground cover crops is one way to optimize oil palm cultivation. The purpose of this study was to determine  the ability of the land cover to hold soil, hold fertilizer, and cover land growth on open and closed land. This study was conducted from July to August 2016 in PT Rebinmas Jaya, Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The method used is the method of observation carried heavy eroded soil and fertilizer leaching rate in the area planted and unplanted Mucuna bracteata and growth of ground cover in open and enclosed land. Anova test results showed all treatments were not significantly different from the weight of eroded soil and the rate of washing of fertilizer. Mucuna bracteata grows faster in open areas. Ground cover (Mucuna bracteata) can hold soil and fertilizer, M. bracteata is planted when oil palms is young or immature.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) belong to the Arecaceae family, is economically valuable for oil production. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of immature oil palm intercropped with red chili pepper and to evaluate the best spacing for red chilli cultivation between immature oil palm. The study was conducted in Rimba Jaya Village, Air Kumbang District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The study began in October 2017 until February 2018. The design used for the red chili pepper cultivation was a one-factor Randomized Block Design.  Spacing used as treatments, namely: (M1 = 50  x 50 cm ; M2 = 60  x 60 cm ; M3 = 70  x 70 cm). Treatments were placed in 5 groups. The results showed that plant height, stem diameter, canopy diameter and the greenness level of palm oil leaves did not affect by the presence of red chili pepper. While spacing of 50  x 50 cm provided a positive response to the growth and yield of chili pepper.  The highest yield of red chili was 10.41 kg produced in 50  x 50 cm spacing.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(2): 184-191.Riparian wetland is highly available and potential suboptimal lands for an alternative solution in extending agricultural activity, but several constrains need to be resolved. The objective of this study was to improve the diversification of vegetables for increasing riparian wetland with utilizing floating cultivation system. This study was conducted From November until December 2019 in Jakabaring (104°46’4” E; 3°01’35” S) Palembang. The design of experiments used in this study was arranged in split plot-completely randomized design with 2 factors (main plot and sub-plot). Main plot was the height of water table, namely: R1 (1 cm upper raft surface), R5 (5 cm upper raft surface), and R10 (10 cm upper raft surface). Sub-plot was the size of celery tiller, i.e., B1 (big size) and B2 (small size). Each combination treatment consisted of five replication. Results showed that there was no any significant effect on water table and tiller size combination treatments in all observed variables, such as: plant height, leaf area, number of petioles, root length, fresh weight, and dry weight of shoot and roots. But, root length was significant different in water table treatment. Therefore, cultivated celery using floating culture system from tiller of parent plants can be an alternative to increase agriculture activity by shortening the planting period to increase vegetable diversification in riparian wetland.

Abstract

Occupational contact dermatitis is a skin disorder that is often found in rubber plantation farmers. Exposure to chemicals in the process of rubber clumping can cause contact dermatitis, resulting in irritation and other skin disorders in the form of itching, dry and cracked skin. Occupational contact dermatitis is affected by contact duration, personal hygiene, work history, use of personal protective equipment, history of previous skin diseases and years of service. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for the incidence of dermatitis due to work in rubber tapping farmers on wetland rubber plantations. This research is an analytic survey with cross sectional research design, the study was conducted in January 2020 in the Region of East Buay Madang District, Regency of East OKU, South Sumatra, the study sample numbered 73 respondents, through simple random sampling. Data analysis using univariate analysis (proportion), bivariate (chi square test) and multivariate (logistic regression). The results of the analysis show that contact duration (p= 0.013), personal hygiene (p= 0.011), work history (p= 0.001) and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (p= 0.001) have a significant relationship with the incidence of occupational dermatitis, while a history of previous skin diseases (p= 0.097) and years of service (p= 0.95) do not have a significant relationship to the incidence of occupational dermatitis and variable use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the most dominant variable in causing dermatitis due to work. The results of the analysis found that the variable use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the most dominant variable in causing dermatitis due to work.
