The journal is published by Pusat Unggulan Riset Pengembangan Lahan Suboptimal (PUR-PLSO), Universitas Sriwijaya. The journal was first published on April of 2012 with twice per year in frequency on April and October.

Merril) at different planting spaces in tidal land. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands. 8(2):148-158.  Tidal lowlands flood type C is suboptimal land and very potential in cultivating soybean, but it has problems in soil fertility, macro and micro nutrient poor, therefore to increase soil fertility can be given various types of organic fertilizers, including cow manure organic fertilizer, chicken manure organic fertilizer and biofertilizer. All types of organic fertilizers are composted, and specifically biofertilizers are made with their own formula. It is expected that the organic fertilizer provided can increase soil fertility and nutrient availability for soybean plants. This study aimed to get the best type of organic fertilizer on the availability of nutrient levels of NPK and soybean production at different spacing in tidal land.  This research was conducted in Jaya Agung Village, Lalan District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province, and was carried out in March 2018 - June 2018. The method used was the experimental method. The design used is a split-plot design. with 9 treatment combinations and repeated 3 times. As the main plot treatment is plant spacing (20 cm x 20 cm, 20 cm x 30 cm and 20 cm x 40 cm), and treatment of subplots are: types of cow manure organic fertilizers  10 ton/ha, chicken manure organic fertilizer 10 ton/ha, and biofertilizer 400 kg/ha. The results showed that the combination treatment of plant spacing of 20 cm x 30 cm with the type of biofertilizer 400 kg/ha could  increase   soybean production by 9.11 g/plot or equivalent to 2.43 ton/ha.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 73-79.Rubber is one of the leading commodities of plantations in South Sumatra, especially in Banyuasin District. The opportunity for unused footpath land is a big potential in increasing farmers' income. In Betung Village, besides rubber, the community also raises livestock such as cows. This study aimed to provide information on the actual soil fertility status and see the suitability of the land in the study area when planted with corn plants, as well as the recommendations for the needed technology. The study used a survey method and the soil samples were taken using purposive random sampling method by determining the point diagonally and analyzed in the laboratory. The results of the study showed that the land suitability class at the location was according to the marginal with the limiting factors of water availability (rainfall) and nutrient retention (KB and pH). To obtain optimal corn production results, it is recommended to prepare a rainwater collection area and the addition of lime and organic matter.

Rianosa R, Hartal H, Setyowati N. 2020. Effectiveness of the Ageratum (Ageratum conyzoides) leaf extract as botanical fungicide against moler diseases of shallot. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 1-10.  Moler is a major disease of onion caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae. Application of synthetic fungicides in the long-term has a negative effect to the environment. Weed leaves of Ageratum (Ageratum conyzoides) have potential to be an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial as well as anti-cancer. This study aimed to determine the best concentration of Ageratum leaf extract to control twisted disease and to compare the effectiveness of botanical fungicide and synthetic fungicide. The research was conducted in June - September 2018 at the Plant Protection Laboratory and greenhouse, University of Bengkulu. The experiment was consists of five Ageratum leaf extract concentrations as a botanical fungicide (i.e. 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%), and synthetic fungicide namely mancozeb and metil tiofanat and control treatment (in sterile soil with no fungicide treatment). The experiment used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor. Ageratum leaf extract was obtained through the maceration method using ethanol 96%. The application of fungicide was carried out on shallot bulbs before planting. The results showed botanical fungicides from Ageratum leaf extract were effective against twisted disease of shallots, concentration 4% of Ageratum leaf extract resulted in a longer incubation period and lower disease intensity compared to other concentrations, and the effectiveness of Ageratum leaf extract at a concentration of 4% was comparable to that of mancozeb to control twisted disease. Application of both synthetic and botanical fungicide resulted in a higher yield of shallot. Therefore, Ageratum leaf extract has potential as a substitution of synthetic fungicides to control twisted disease of shallots.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 102-108.Balanced fertilization is very important to do in marginal soils. The constraints in the use of marginal soils are physical, chemical and biological soil characteristics which do not support planting growth. Determination of fertilizer dosage for corn commodity in one region can be different depending on the available nutrient content that testing needs to be carried out. This study aimed to mentor farmers in taking appropriate soil samples and determined fertilizer doses according to location specifications and application of fertilizers on target using the Dry Soil Test Kit (Perangkat Uji Tanah Kering). This activity was carried out in Fajar Jaya Village, Ogan Komering Ulu District in February 2019.  The results of the soil analysis of the location used as a demonstration plot derived from the results of low soil fertility analysis with soil acidity at pH 4-5 with acid crystals, moderate P, K and C-organic nutrients were relatively low. The recommended fertilizer is as follows: urea 325 kg/ha given 3 times, one-third the dose, carried out 1 MST, 4 MST and 6 MST; TSP 200 kg/ha; KCl 125 kg/ha; 5,000 kg/ha of compost and 1,000 kg/ha of lime stocked during tillage 1 week before planting. Fertilization application method applied by farmers is not in accordance with the recommendations; consequently, it is necessary to fertilize to increase nutrient content.

Anggrainie R, Alfiati S. 2019. The impact of women’s empowerment on household economic behavior (case study of farmer women’s group in Prabumulih, South Sumatra). Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands. 8(2):192-201.  This study aimed to analyze the level of family welfare as a result of the empowerment of women through the Women Farmers Group. The analytical method was carried out descriptively by tabulating data, then analyzed by comparing with the reference level of the prosperous family and its indicators based on the conditions set by the BKKBN. To analyze the impact of women's empowerment on household economic behavior, it was carried out using multiple linear regression analysis. Sampling was carried out by a simple random sampling method of 60 housewives who were members of the Wanita Tani Group. The results of this study indicated that when viewed from the indicators set by the BKKBN, the majority of Women Farmers Households were in the Prosperous Family II category. Simultaneously, the variable intensity of the participants, the number of family members, the age of the mother, the level of education of the mother had a significant effect on the level of income, maternal work time, and household consumption in the City of Prabumulih. But partially, the intensity of the participants had a significant effect on time spent working and household expenses, while on household income was not significant.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 11-22.Peat forms naturally in swamp areas when dead plants rot and accumulate, which then decompresses and accumulates within hundreds to thousands of years. Peat can store 20 times more carbon than mineral soil. Indonesia's peatlands store about 46 Gt of carbon or around 8-14% of world peat carbon (Maltby and Immirizi, 1993). Peat has an important ecosystem that acts as a protector of the Earth's atmosphere from the greenhouse effect, ecological buffer, saves biodiversity and a place to live for various flora and fauna. Peat have the ability to resemble sponges which make them suitable as water catchment areas. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the importance of protecting and maintaining peatlands as protectors of the Earth's atmosphere, controlling global climate by involving the community. This research was conducted with qualitative descriptive methods taken from various literature and national media. The results showed that land degradation has occurred due to the extensive conversion of peatlands into plantations which in the process of causing environmental damage and peat ecosystems in various regions of Indonesia. For this reason, community-based peat conservation needs to be done so that sustainability is maintained and the community gets economic benefits from peatlands.

Ansyari F, Slamat S. 2020. Comparison of the performance of climbing perch (Anabas testudineus Bloch) filial 2 fry and natural fry treated in acidic swamp waters, Jejangkit Village, South Kalimantan. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 23-30.The aim of the study was to compare the performance (survival rate, growth and feed conversion) of climbing perch fish fry Filial 2 (F2) which has superior characteristics with natural fry that are culture in sour swamp waters. The study was carried out in swamp waters, Jejangkit Village, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan for 6 months (January to June 2019). This study compared fish performances generated from F2 fry of nature. Fishes were cultured in net (4 m x 2 m x 1 m) with the same stocking density of 100 fishes/m2 . The results showed that the survival rate of natural fry was 86.6% higher than that of F2 75.3%, but the relative growth of natural fry was 2,325% lower than  F2 3,060% and feed conversion natural fry was 3.03 less efficient than F2 fry 2.62. It was concluded that the performance of F2 fry was better than natural fry, when maintained in acidic swamp waters.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 31-40. Pepper cultivation in tin mining sand tailings requires the amelioration of organic matter to improve soil characteristics. The paper investigates the effect of chicken manure dosage on the growth of three pepper cultivars in sand tailing medium. This study was conducted on April-August 2016 at Experiment Station of Universitas Bangka Belitung, Balunijuk Village, Bangka Island. This study was arranged in a completely randomized design with two factors and three replications. The first factor was the dosage of chicken manure (5 kg; 6 kg; 7 kg/plant). The second factor was pepper cultivars (Lampung Daun Lebar; Lampung Daun Kecil; Merapin). The. result of the analysis of variance showed that the treatment of chicken manure dosage significantly affected only on total leaf area. The treatment of pepper cultivars significantly affected the total of chlorophyll, root dry weight, and shoot dry weight. There was no interaction between chicken manure dosage and pepper cultivar. Pepper cv. Lampung Daun Lebar tends to grow better than the other cultivars in the sand tailing medium.

Jumakir J, Endrizal E. 2019. Response of biological fertilizer addition to growth and results of rice field. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands. 8(2):173-180. The research objectives were to determine the effect or response of the addition of biological fertilizers to the growth and yield of rice, to determine the most effective type of biological fertilizer. This study was conducted in irrigated rice field of Sri Agung Village, Batang Asam sub District, West Tanjung Jabung District, Jambi Province in dry season 2016. The design was Randomized Block Design (RBD) with six treatments and three replications with 5 mx 10 m plot area, implemented in a farmer area of 1200 m2. The results of the analysis based on the analysis of variance showed significant and unreal differences in growth and yield of rice. The addition of biological fertilizer provided higher growth and yields than without biological fertilizer. Provibio biofertilizer is the most effective biofertilizer that can provide the highest rice yield and the use of biofertilizer can save 50% recommended NPK fertilizer.

Agustriani F, Purwiyanto AIS, Putri WAE, Fauziyah. 2019. Concentration of heavy metals (Pb and Cu) in alepes vari and johnius belangerii from musi river estuary, Banyuasin district, South Sumatra. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands. 8(2):213-219. The Musi river estuary plays an important role as one of the fishing grounds. The high activity in the musi estuary has an impact on the ecosystems in this region, including the negative impact in the form of ecosystem changes caused by heavy metals. The aim of this study was to determine the concentrations of heavy metals (Pb and Cu) in Alepesvariand Johniusbelangerii in the Musi river estuary. Fish were obtained from fishermen who used the Gillnet Millennium (Ply) gear in July 2018 and were analyzed using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the concentration of  Pb  in J. belangerii was greater than A. vari, but the concentration of Cu  in  A. vari  was greater than in  J. belangerii. Concentration of  Pb has exceeded the limit for safe consumption based on National Agency of Drug and Food Control.
